Katy Did

Porter Wagoner

© Porter Music, BMI

Two sisters lived alone out in the country
Their names were Katy and her sister Liz
They farmed to raise the food that graced their table
Liz never went to town but Katy did

Katy went to town each Saturday mornin'
To sell the eggs and buy for her and Liz
Their only needs just some salt and sugar
They grew the rest her and sister Liz

Liz never went to town like Katy did
Liz never knew a man but Katy did
For I saw them one evening when they thought they were hid
And you should've seen the things that him and Katy did
[ instrumental ]
I walked by Liz and Katy's house each evenin'
Through the woods on my way home from school
Then one evening Katy smiled and spoke so softly
As I stood there blushin' like a fool

Then she asked me if I'd like to have some cookies
That she baked for her and sister Liz
Then as Katy took me in their kitchen
I never closed the door but Katy did

She took my hand and my heart beat so wildly
I sound like coffee a perkin' with no lid
And I shook so bad I've even dropped my cookies
I didn't know of love but Katy did

Liz never knew a man but Katy did
She said it's lonely here with sister Liz
But I just kept on eatin' cookies I was just a dumb kid
I wish I'd known of love back then like Katy did
Oh I wish I'd known of love back then like Katy did

Like You Were Years Ago

Porter Wagoner

© Porter Music, BMI

Mom the years are showing in your face
And your steps are slowing with the time
Since daddy's gone away to live in heaven
I know you're lonesome for him I see heaven on your mind

Now the years have took away the roses
That were in your cheeks not long ago
And time has wrapped your lovely hair in silver
But I still see you mom like you were years ago

Each day you look more lovely like an angel
And soon you'll go to be with them I know
God loaned us part of heaven for a mama
As I look back and see you like you were years ago

Now the years have took away the roses...
I'll always see you mom like you were years ago

Barlow Chapin

Porter Wagoner

© Porter Music, BMI

Barlow Chapin was a big man
Barlow Chapin was a real man
When he'd play ball the girls would scream
If the boys complained he'd whip the whole team
Barlow Chapin was a big man

Barlow Chapin was a big man
Not an ounce of fat was on his bones
Just hard muscles made him strong
His waist was only about thirty inches around
But he stood 6-4 and weighed about 220 pounds
Barlow Chapin was a big man

Born and raised in the Ozark Hills
In the land of the mountains and corn liquor stills
He started datin' a girl when he was fifteen
Her name was Debbie the high school queen
Debbie was the prettiest girl in school
But for another boy to look at her would've had to be a fool
Cause she was Barlow's girl that was understood
For he'd whip the whole class and I'll name who he would

Cause Barlow Chapin was a big man...

Well just before graduation day
Debbie and Barlow announced their wedding day
Well they got married bout a year ago
And I seen Barlow the other day
And I didn't hardly know him
Why he wouldn't have weighed a hundred pounds
The moral of the story is that love is a wonderful thing
But too much of it will sure get you down
Why got Barlow down to less than a hundred pounds

And Barlow Chapin was a big man...

Where Does Love Go

Porter Wagoner

© Porter Music, BMI

When lips grow so familiar with the one they love
And the fire that burns so high then flickers low
Where does love go where does love go

When your love is stronger than the one you love
And nothing you can do makes their love grow
Where does love go where does love go

Where does love go when it's dying
Looking for a place to survive
Where does love go when it's dying
Mhm tryin' in some way to stay alive
Where does love go where does love go

Is there no way to stop love when you see it dying
And so soon it will be gone you know
Where does love go where does love go

So you stand with helpless hands as love slips through your fingers
As you try to stop the tears that flow
Where does love go where does love go

Where does love go when it's dying...

With You

Dolly Parton

© Porter Music, BMI

I want to love you and always be with you
Share all life's pleasures and heartaches with you
And I want you to love me and need me and want me
And I want to share my love with you

With you with you I want to be with you
Make every plan and dream each dream with you
And I want to help you comfort and love you
I want to always be with you
[ instrumental ]
And when I'm with you things hold more meaning
Familiar old love songs and stories seem new
I'm complete since I found you I've built my world around you
A world that I want to share with you

With you with you I want to be with you...
With you with you I want to be with you

A World Without Music

Porter Wagoner

© Porter Music, BMI

Once my world was filled with music sweet and low
When your love was mine and mine alone
Now my world has lost its melody
And my world is without music since you've left me

A world without music not a song to sing
Days filled with silence and nights never endin'
Can't you see how lonely the world would be
If the whole world had no music like me

Can you find it in your heart to try again
And let my world have one more song to sing
And the music that has died will live again
But my world will have no music until then

A world without music not a song to sing...

I've Got Work To Do

Dolly Parton

© Velvet Apple Music, BMI

Well I tumble from my good warm bed shake the sleep out of my head
I'd rather lay back down instead but I've got work to do
Then I stumble to the coffee pot I like my coffee strong and hot
It helps me get out on the job and I've got work to do

I've got work to do from Monday until Friday
I've got to pay the bills I own and I owe everybody
Weekend comes I have my fun on Saturday and Sunday
The only time that I call mine then back to work on Monday mhm
[ instrumental ]
Poor folks live on dreams and plans and I'll keep doin' all I can
As long as I've got two good hands and I've got work to do
Out on the job I do my best at night when I lay down to rest
I thank the Lord cause I've been blessed that I've got work to do

I've got work to do from Monday until Friday...

Darling Debra Jean

Porter Wagoner

© Porter Music, BMI

Just beyond the chapel door waits the one you're waiting for
The one you've chosen to fulfill your dreams
So with an angel by my side I walk you down the aisle
To give away our darling Debra Jean

Silence fills the room as you stand beside the groom
Then I hear you whisper with this ring
As your mother softly cries then the teardrops fill my eyes
Our little girl our darling Debra Jean

On this your wedding day now I've given you away
And I know that's just exactly what it means
I know from this day on to another you'll belong
Our little girl is gone our Debra Jean

We wish you both the best wish you joy and happiness
And hope you'll always know what true love means
But to your mother and to me you know you'll always be
Our little darling our little Debra Jean
Our little darling our little Debra Jean

I'd Leave It All To Be With You

Porter Wagoner

© Porter Music, BMI

If I owned a mansion on a hilltop so high
If I owned all the treasures that money could buy
And all the stars in the heavens if I owned them too
I'd leave them all to be with you

I'd leave it all to be with you
Yet I'd leave it all to be with you
My reputation and my friends I'd leave them all and start anew
I'd leave it all just to be with you
[ instrumental ]
I'd leave it all to be with you...
I'd leave it all just to be with you

He's Alone Again Tonight

Porter Wagoner

© Porter Music, BMI

I know a man that lives all alone
He must not have a friend in the world
For each night I hear him a walkin' the floor
As he calls out the name of a girl

He's alone again tonight
I can hear him a walkin' the floor
As he swears at the rain and cusses the pain
He's alone again tonight

His room never shows no sign of life
His door stays locked and his window blinds tied
I've knocked on his door but he just get quiet
He's alone again tonight

He looks in his mailbox just stands and cries
It always stays empty not a letter inside
Surely it looks like his kinfolks could write
But they don't he's alone tonight

He's alone again tonight...

He must be the world's most lonesome man
Forsaken by love and all of his friends
I guess when love left him it took all his pride
And he's ashamed to be seen alone at night

He's alone again tonight...
