Recorded live:

(Here he is Porter Wagoner in person)
Howdy neighbor howdy get out and come right in
We'll make a bowl of gravy to sop your biscuits in
Boil a pot of coffee and bake a big fat hen
Cook enough country ham to feed a hundred men
Drive your wagon in the yard and turn your donkey loose
Kick that old hound out of the way and watch that fighting goose
So howdy neighbor howdy come in and sit right down
Come on and tell us all the news how are things in town
[ instrumental ]
Drive your wagon in the yard and turn your donkey loose
Kick that old hound out of the way and watch that fighting goose
Howdy neighbor howdy get out and come right in...
(Oh thank you)

(I'd like to do a song for you now that's kind of an old number
That I recorded quiet a little while back
Back in about 1902 or 1903 we had this one out
One called Misery Loves Company)
So break out the bottle bring on the crowd
Yes gather round me cause misery loves a company
I've just left my home friend where I couldn't sleep
For missin' a woman that I couldn't keep
She just walked out and left me for somebody else
Now her memory keeps hauntin' me when I'm by myself
So break out the bottle bring on the crowd
Tell funny stories turn the jukebox up loud
Come on sit at my table where the drinks are on me
Yes gather round me cause misery loves company
Now I'm not the first one who's lost everything
To a false hearted woman with a false hearted dream
But this is the first time I've suffered myself
Help me get over this love I'll handle the next love all by myself
So break out the bottle bring on the crowd...

(Thank you very kindly
You know one of the finest things of being in the music business
In the entertainment field is gettin' to travel around over the country
And met the folks who buy your records
And like to come out and watch country music shows
And right now here's a little gal
That's done an awful lot of traveling during the past few years
And she pleases the folks just about everywhere she goes
And I know you've got another great big welcome for her
Pretty Miss Norma Jean
How about it)
I think I'll go across the ocean if I don't change my notion
I just got to forget you if I can
Well I'm feelin' so blue I don't know what to do
Because I'm head over heels in love with you
Every day I'm sad and lonely cause I'm thinkin' of you only
I just can't bear the thought of losin' you
Well I'm feelin' so blue I don't know what to do
Because I'm head over heels in love with you
[ instrumental ]
Yes my nights are always dreary all I do is sit and worry
I just can't bear the thought of losin' you
Well I'm feelin' so blue I don't know what to do
Because I'm head over heels in love with you
Oh I'd like to be forgiving but this life just ain't worth livin'
If I had to sit and worry over you
Well I'm feelin' so blue I don't know what to do
Because I'm head over heels in love with you
Because I'm head over heels in love with you
Because I'm head over heels in love with you
Thank you you sound mighty pretty there Miss Norma Jean

(Wonder if I could join you for a duet
Get you to kinda let me help you out on one a litlle
I have to sing with these old ugly boys all the time
I'd just be glad to Porter
Okay
Let's do this one here
This is a I think a real pretty heart song and I hope you folks will enjoy it
One entitled I Didn't Mean It)
I didn't mean to be untrue didn't mean to cheat on you
At the time it didn't seem so wrong
I didn't mean to be untrue but she reminded me of you
And you know I've been gone so long
I didn't mean it I didn't mean it
Oh my darling I know I've done you wrong
I didn't mean it I didn't mean it
Even though you've been gone so long
[ instrumental ]
I didn't mean to bring you shame didn't mean to hurt your name
At the time it didn't seem so wrong
I know that you've been lonely too so I'm not blaming you
Cause I know I've been gone so long
I didn't mean it I didn't mean it...
(Come back out here young lady
Great job
Thank you Porter
Thank you folks so much)

'I tell you what Porter if it's all right with you I'd like to ask you
And all the fellows to help me do a number
This is one that this is one of the old timers
That we do on a lot of our personal appearance shows around the country
And if you will if you're ready
Let's do one called The Foggy Moutain Top)
If I was on some Foggy Mountain top
I'd sail away to the west
I'd sail around this whole wide world
To the one I love the best
If I had listened to what my mama said
I would not have been here today
A wishin' for things that I'll never have
And weepin' my young life away
If I was on some Foggy Mountain top...
[ instrumental ]
You caused me to weep you caused me to moan
You caused to leave my home
Oh those lonesome pines and those good old times
I'm on my way back home
If I was on some Foggy Mountain top...
Oh when you see that two faced blonde
There's something you can tell her
She need not fool her time away
Tryin' to steal my feller
If I was on some Foggy Mountain top...

(Aw it's fine boy little Don singin' bass there
Man I'm telling you Speedy and the whole gang little Jack and everybody
Neighbors it's that time once again
we're gonna be visited by one of the more classical minded musicians
an old boy that has in store for you at this time
I would say a very classical number he'll render
Speck Rhodes
Thank you Mr Wagoner
And doggone the way they pat their hands out there just makes cold chills
Go up and down my back you know
I'm really havin' a ball here
First when I landed in town this afternoon I was drivin' around the square
It's always good to come home you know
I's drivin' around the square and the first lap around well there's a pretty girl
Walkin's along there you know and I stopped and picked her up
And we's drivin' around the square just round and round the square up there
And I said I believe by cracky I'll just kiss you
She said yeah you do and I'll call the law
I kissed her
Did she call the law
I reckon so
She said Law Law
My goodness sakes you know there's some funny things happen
Everybody has sorta peculiar ways I guess
Now you take the fiddler Jack Little here
He's a good boy he's a fine boy but he does things right
Backwards to what I'd do 'em
He has a farm up in Kentucky
And this place has been in their family for years and years
Well the ole house I betcha's 150 years old
And last summer he goes out and him and his little wife
They pick out a whole houseful of new modern furniture and put in that old house
Well he lived that way for a year
And he said this just ain't I'm not satisfied
So he tore the old house down
Built him a great big new modern ranch house out there
And sold off ever stick of the new furniture he'd got
And him and his wife have been goin' all over the country
To ever old second hand store
And buyin' old rockin' chairs and dressers and beds and pots and things
Speck hey Speck listen
That stuff that little Jack's a buyin' for his home is that's antique stuff
Yeah that's you
What's a antique
Well that's old furniture
It's old yes it's old
And it's valuable too
It is
Yes sir he's bought a chair he told me just the other day
That goes back to Louis the 14th
What's that
He bought a chair just the other day that goes back to Louis the 14th
He bought a chair that goes back to Louis the 14th?
Right yes sir
He ain't got nothin' on me
I bought a bed that goes back to Sears the 15th
Thank you
Aww thank you you're so nice thank you very much
That just makes me feel so good I'm gonna sing
I'm gonna sing a sorta of a popular number
You know the teenagers like sorta pop music
Well I'm gonna sing a classical number entitled Sweet Fern)
Springtime is comin' sweet lonesome birds
Your echo in the woodland I hear
While down in the meadow so lonesome you're singin'
while the moonlight is shinin' so clear
But an old time away in a fer distant land
A land that is over the sea
Go fly to her singin' your sweet little song
Tell her to come back to me
Sweet Fern sweet Fern
Oh tell me is my darlin' still true
Sweet Fern sweet Fern
I'll be just as happy as you
Second verse same song
Upon on her finger I placed a dime ring
On the day I was leavin' my home
She promised she'd be my own dear little girl
And love me where ever I roam
But an old time away in a fer distant land
A land that is over the sea
Go fly to her singin' your sweet little song
Tell her to come back to me
Sweet Fern sweet Fern...

(Aw ain't he a dandy Speck that's mighty fine
You know it's kind of hard to pick out songs that you get the most requests for
When you travel around the country and the folks that write in
That see our television show and our radio programs
So we have a medley picked out that we'd like to do for you
Sings a little bit of each one of the songs
Some of them that we have recorded quiet some time back
And sold quiet a few records for us
So I hope you'll enjoy it)
Haven't you heard there's a new love for me
Haven't you heard you're just my used to be
She held out her hand said haven't you heard
I saw a gold wedding band I was lost for words
I wanted to cry I wanted to die
When she said these words
Oh haven't you heard
[ instrumental ]
Little heart you've been broken many times before
But the wound always healed no matter how sore
But this time is different and I can't tell you why
Eat drink and be merry tomorrow you'll cry
[ instrumental ]
How many times have you heard someone say
If I had his money I could do things my way
But little they know that it's so hard to find
One rich man in ten with a satisfied mind

(Thank you so very much
And I don't think any show any country show is complete
Without a beautiful gospel song of some sort
And we've picked out one here that I think is a real pretty song
And I hope you will enjoy it
I recorded it for RCA several years ago
We'd like to do it for you now it's titled I Thought Of God)
I walked through the whispering forest
Not a man made sound could I hear
A timid fawn was playing there
Without a sign of fear
I walked alone up the mountain
And looked out over the sea
I saw an eagle spread his wings
In flight so gracefully
I knew that I was walking
Where mortals should not trod
There on the lonely mountain
I stopped and thought of God
I walked through a busy city
It was built by men and steel
A young one cries and old one dies
Where love and hate are real
I knew that I was walking
Where many men had trod
There in the busy city
I stopped and thought of God

And we really hope you'll enjoy the songs and tunes we have lined out for you
We've got a lot of fine entertainment to get to
So what do you say let's get right on with it right now)
Well my baby's not here in town tonight
This old town just don't seem right
Even my old friends don't seem the same to me
Well my baby's not here in town tonight
These old lights don't shine as bright
And I'm hidin' tears till I can%u2019t hardly see
Well she'd been acting kinda strange
I should'd guessed what lay ahead
But I keep wondering if it's things I've done
Or if it's things I've said
Well my baby's not here in town tonight
This old town just don't seem right
And I'm hidin' tears till I can%u2019t hardly see
[ instrumental ]
Well well my baby's not here in town tonight...
Well she'd been acting kinda strange...

(Thank you very much
Ya'll are a wonderful audience
And it certainly is so nice to have ya'll here with us
Right now I'd like to introduce to you a real popular young lady
A little gal who has made some real fine single records for the RCA Victor folks
And I know that you've got a great big welcome for her right now
Let's bring her on and make her smile great big
Pretty Miss Norma Jean)
Talk back trembling lips shaky legs don't just stand there
Don't let him know that he's gettin' through to you
Talk back trembling lips burning eyes don't start crying
Heart don't let him know that you're breaking in two
Everyday our love's a battle royal
Dear it seems that fighting is all we do
But if I let you know how much I love you
You'll do things to me you shouldn't do
So talk back trembling lips shaky legs don't just stand there...

(Thank you so very much and a real good evenin' to you folks
It's certainly nice to be with you tonight and do some songs I hope you'll like
This next one is one we recorded not too long ago for the RCA Victor folks
I hope you'll enjoy it one called Private Little World)
There's a place where no one cares about tomorrow
Where you never see a smile there's only sorrow
And love can't break your heart once you're inside
It's a private little world where losers hide
I'm living in a private little world
Where tears are payment for the things you buy
I'm living in a private little world
Where all you need to know is how to cry
[ instrumental ]
I couldn't stand another broken heart
So I won't give love another chance to start
I'll take my tears and then I'll run away
To my private little world and there I'll stay
I'm living in a private little world...

(Thank you Miss Norma Jean and a beautiful job
Oh that's a pretty song Private Little World
Well right now we wanna introduce an old boy to you
I could stand out here and say a lotta nice things about this ole boy
But I'm not gonna lie to you folks no sir no I'm only kidding you
He's one of the greatest entertainers
And he comes from right out of the heart of the Ozarks
Boys turn him loose over there
Speck Rhodes
Thank you Porter and hidee Folks
Doggone there's a nice lookin' crowd out there ain't it Porter
Oh this is a fine group you bet you
I reckon it is
I'm reallly happy to be here I drove up here today in my little sports car
Oh did you
Yeah you know I got me one of these little foreign cars
With a gear shift in the floorboard
Yeah
The kind I used to drive you know
And I ain't been used to drivin' with that gear shift down there
And the first night I got it my girlfriend Sadie in the car with me
And we started out Lover's Lane you know and we's windin' around through the hills
And I reached over to shift the gears
She slapped my face and said smartalec you just shifted my knee into second
The first night I had this thing I was goin' down the street there in Nashville
And it was real busy you see
And I was in this traffic and there was a good lookin' blonde
And she had a little yellow convertible and she was right in front of my car
And she was just a dartin' in and out of traffic just like that
And I was just dartin' in and out of traffic right behind her
And we come to a stop light and it just went stop all at once
And that girl throwed the brakes on on that car
And just stopped dead still right in front of me
I like to hit her yes sir
I bet you I wadn't that fer from her bumper when I got my car stopped
Sittin' there waitin' for the light to change and I reached over
And shoved my cigarette lighter in and that girl said whop
This is this is my year friend
The sports cars and the girls and their short tight dresses
I'll declare to my time if it don't beat all I ever saw
I wished I could see more
But I'll declare you know everybody's a wearin'
These women are wearin' these short dresses
I saw one down on the square here today
She was walkin' around the square and she had on a dress that fit her so tight
Looked like she was melted and poured in it and forget to say when
she said it was her comin' out dress
I said by nib you like made it too you know it
Yeah it's got me worried tho the women are wearin' these short tight dresses
And lower down up here and let 'em down up yonder it bothers me
I'm afraid in 10 or 15 years from now the women won't be a wearin' anything hardly
And it really bothers me because I'm afraid I won't be around then
Aw Speck that's fine boy you get younger every year man
That's the world's oldest teenager right there
He's a fine one
I'd like to do a song for you now
That I recorded not too awful long ago for the RCA Victor folks
One I hope you might like called Find Out)
Find out find out
After you find out how hard true love is to find
Then you'll come back and be happy with mine
Someone filled your darling's head with story
About how greener grass grows somewhere else
And so you're searching for that perfect pasture
I guess you'll have to find out for yourself
Find out find out...
After you have searched this whole world over
And found those fairy tales were not true
Then come on home and you will find me waiting
With open arms for only you
Find out find out...

(Thank you so very much
I'd like to do a song for you now that dates back quiet a few years
I learnt this song from my sister many many years ago
And it's always been a favorite of mine
And it tells quiet a story I hope you'll enjoy it
It's titled The Old Log Cabin For Sale)
While strolling along in the country
Reviewing the scenes new and old
I found an old fashioned log cabin
So beautiful there to behold
A stranger was standing in silence
His eyes firmly fixed on the door
My heart ached in pity to see him
For these were the words that it bore
And the sign read An Old Cabin For Sale
An old oaken bucket and well
Easy terms just keep a log on the fire
And a light burning bright in the dell
Many years an old couple so patiently looked
For their boy who's last promise did fail
Now the old rocking chair will be rocking no more
There's an old log cabin for sale
[ instrumental ]
A welcome I read on the floormat
An old braided rug by the door
The hands of an angel had made it
With many a prayer prayed before
In an old rocking chair long she waited
For one glimpse of him how she yearned
But now he was standing in silence
Too late yes too late he'd returned
And the sign read An Old Cabin For Sale...
