I Take A Lot Of Pride In What I Am

Merle Haggard

© Blue Book Music, BMI

(One two three four)

Things I learned in hobo jungle were things they never taught me in a class room
Like where to find a hand out while bummin' through Chicago in the afternoon
Hey I'm not braggin' or complainin' I'm just talkin' to myself man to man
This ol' mental fat I'm chewin' didn't take a lotta doin'
But I take a lot of pride in what I am

Never travel in a hurry cause I got nobody waitin' for me anywhere
Home is anywhere I'm livin' if it's sleepin' on some vacant bench in City Square
If I'm workin' on some road gang or just livin' off the fat of our great land
This ol' mental fat I'm chewin' didn't take a lotta doin'
But I take a lot of pride in what I am

Never been nobody's idol but at least I got a title
And I take a lot of pride in what I am
I take a lot of pride in what I am
I take a lot of pride in what I am

(Hey thank you)

© Mills Music, ASCAP

I think Carlton told you we're recordin' this little show here live
And we certainly honored to be doin' it here in Philadelphia
And we wanna do a song that's kind of a tribute to one my all time favorites
A fella by the name of Bob Wills recorded a song several years ago
And we'd like to ask Mr Chubby Wise of the Rainbow Ranch Boys to come out
And I wanna thank Hank Snow for lettin' you come out
And help us with an old song called Corrine Corrina and it goes like this right here
One two three)

Corrine Corrina where you've been so long
Corrine Corrina where you've been so long
Ain't had no lovin' since you been gone

Roy Nichols
[ instrumental ]
Tell me Corrina where'd you stay last night
Tell me Corrnia where'd you stay last night
Came home this morning sun was shinin' bright

There's Norman Hamlet on the steel
[ instrumental ]
I love Corrina tell the world I do
I love Corrina tell the world I do
Hey a little more lovin' let your heart beat true

One more time Chubby Wise
[ instrumental ]
Give him a hand here

Goodbye Corrina this is fare thee well
Goodbye Corrina this is fare thee well
When I get back babe Lord you never can tell

Roy Nichols takes it out
[ instrumental ]

Every Fool Has A Rainbow

Merle Haggard

© Blue Book Music, BMI

Here's one side of our current record we'd like to do for you
called Every Fool Has A Rainbow and me included

Every fool has rainbow but he never seems to find
The reward that should be waiting at the end of the line
He'll give up a bed of roses for a hammock filled with thorns
And go chasing after rainbows everytime a dream is born

Every fool has a rainbow that only he can see
Every fool has a rainbow and the rule applies to me

Roy
[ instrumental ]
Every fool has a rainbow that only he can see
Every fool has a rainbow and the rule applies to me

T.B. Blues

Jimmie Rodgers

© Peer Int, BMI

Thank you very much thank you so much thank you
We does anybody remember Jimmie Rodgers here tonight
The old blue yodel
Well you know he had he had tuberculosis all through his career
And he uh he finally finally died of the disease and and uh
This was a song that he sang about his own disease and this kind of shows the humor
He had towards life even tho he knew that death was upon him
It's called T B blues it goes like this right here

My good gal's trying to make a fool out of me Lord Lord
Yes my gal's trying to make a fool out of me
Tryin' to make me believe I ain't got that ole TB

When it rained down sorrow it rained all over me Lord Lord
When it rained down sorrow it rained all over me hey
Cause my body rattles like a train on that ole SB
I got that TB blues

Here comes Norman Hamlet on the dobro
[ instrumental ]
He's got that ole TB too can tell by the way he plays

Gee but the graveyard is a lonesome place
That old graveyard is a lonesome place
They put you on your back and put that mud down in your face

I got that ole TB and I can't eat a bite Lord Lord it's the truth
I got that ole TB I can't eat a bite honey baby
It's got me worried soul I can't even sleep at night
I got that TB blues

When Did Right Become Wrong

Tommy Collins

© Tree Pub, BMI

We have we have a song that we wanna do for this album
It's one called When Did Right Become Wrong
It was written by a good friend of mine and I've always loved this song
Would you welcome Tommy Collins back out as he holds the paper for me
On a song I've never done before on stage
We hope you like it
It's kind of a slow ballad type song somethin' like that

It used to be right that you love me
You said so and I thought so too
We'd talk maturely bout old puppy love
Comparing the old with the new
If it so right we love each other
Than why you had rather be gone
You seem to take pride in deceiving
But when did right become wrong
When did right become wrong

Norman Hamlet
[ instrumental ]
And Roy Nichols
[ instrumental ]
You made a good talk about romance
You said you just know it when it's real
You sealed your orations with kisses of fire
Oh darlin' weren't they really real
If it's so right that I hold you
Then why have I not in so long
For you know I can't even touch you
And when did right become wrong
When did right become wrong

Philadelphia Lawyer

Woody Guthrie

© Woody Guthrie Pub, BMI

(Thank you so much
One of the greatest song writers of our time Mr Tommy Collins wrote that song especially for us
Right now we'd like to invite the rest of our show out on the bandstand
A young lady that sings harmony with us on all our records
And she has many fine records of her own
We're gonna have her do some of those records
And we're gonna do that right now if you'll all get together and welcome
Miss Bonnie Owens out on the bandstand
Thank you Merle
You got your fightin' side colors on hadn't you
Just give her a hand there for her fightin' side colors my goodness)

Way out in Reno Nevada where romance blooms and fades
There's a great Philadelphia lawyer makin' love to a Hollywood maid
Come love and we will wander out where the lights are bright
I'll win you a divorce from your husband and we can get married tonight

Wild Bill was a gun-totin' cowboy ten notches were carved on his gun
And all the boys around Reno left Wild Bill's maiden alone
One night when he was returning from ridin' the range in the cold
He dreamed of his Hollywood sweetheart her love was as lasting as gold

As he drew near her window two shadows he saw on the shade
The great Philadelphia lawyer was making love to Bill's Hollywood maid

Um uh let's see he the two win the two shades
I forgot the words to it so I'm just talkin'
I'll tell you story about it
And un and we can tell you about Wild Bill went up there
And he saw those two people on the shades you know
And the Philadelphia Lawyer was tellin'

Come love and we will wonder out where the lights are bright

Oh I forgot to say what the Philadelphia Lawyer said to Bill's Hollywood maid
Now I'm a little bit nervous

Your hands are so pretty and lovely your form so rare and divine
Come go with me to the city we'll leave this wild cowboy behind
Now back in old Philadelphia among the beautiful pines
There's one less Philadelphia lawyer in old Philadelphia tonight

Thank you very much thank you

Harold's Super Service

Bobby Wayne

© Shade Tree Music, BMI

(You know we got a real talented group here
We're gonna anyway Bobby wrote me a song especially for this album
This is kind of a comedy song we wanna do
And if ya'll think it 's funny laugh it's about a service station attendant
You write song about truck drivers and all the engineers you know and what not
But I never heard one about a service station attendant before and I thought it was funny
It's called Harold's Super Service and it goes like this right here
One two three four)

Now me are work at Harold's Super Service
We specialize in service all the way
And there's only one thing really bucks me
That big ol' born stripped down model A
At Harold's Super Service we do greased jobs
We fix thirty or forty flats every day
And just about the time we get really busy
Here comes that guy that stripped down model A

He said gimme fifty cents for the raggler
Check my oil too if you don't mind
Put some air in my tire won't you Mister
Check my windows too if you have time

Roy Nichols
[ instrumental ]
And Norm
[ instrumental ]
Last night I dreamed that died and went to heaven
Do that mighty Super Service in the sky
I was satisfied of copping gas forever
For the angels in the sweet by and by
Now the pretty gates were me just around the corner
I could see the new ones coming every day
Now I was changing for some modest magic carpet
When up through the clouds there came this model A

I said gimme fifty cents for the raggler...

Impersonation Medley

Merle Haggard

© Blue Book Music, BMI

(We had a request the last time we were here we some requests to do some impersonations
And we haven't been doing 'em on our show
But we promised we would do 'em the next time we were here in Philadelphia
And would ya'll like to see some some impersonations for a second or two
OK alright I'll tell you what we would but we don't know any
And naw really we're gonna try to do a couple three for you
We hope that you recognize 'em the first one goes like this right here
This is one of my very favorite singers and if I don't sound like 'im
I'm gonna be mad at me)

DEVIL WOMAN

I told Mary about us I told her about our great sin
Mary cried and forgave me and Mary took me back again
Said if I wanted my freedom I could be free evermore
But I don't wanna be and I don't wanna see Mary cry anymore

Oh devil woman devil woman let go of me
Devil woman let me be and leave me alone I wanna go home

I'M MOVIN' ON

That big eight wheeler rollin' down the track
Means your true lovin' daddy ain't comin' back
Cause I'm movin' oh hear my song
You were flyin' too high for my little old sky and I'm movin' on

Mister engineer with your throttle in hand
A move me on down to the Promise land
And move me on and hear my song
You were flyin' too high for my little old sky so I'm movin' on

FOLSOM PRISON BLUES

I hear that train a comin' it's comin' round the bend
And I ain't seen the sunshine since I don't know when

ORANGE BLOSSOM SPECIAL

Hey looky yonder comin' comin' down that railroad track

It's that Orange Blossom Special bringin' my baby back yeah back back

Say man says when you goin' back to Florida
Said I don't know I don't guess I ever will
Said ain't you worried bout gettin' your nourishment down in New York
Well said I don't care if I do die do die do die

LOVE'S GONNA LIVE HERE

Oh the sun's gonna shine in my life once more
Love's gonna live here again
Things're gonna be the way they were before
Love's gonna live here again

Love's gonna live here love's gonna live here
Love's gonna live here again
No more loneliness only happiness

Today I Started Loving You Again

Merle Haggard - Bonnie Owens

© Blue Book Music, BMI

(Thank you very much
A couple of weeks ago we won an award in Nashville from the songwriters association
They voted us the number one songwriter of the year and I'm very proud of it
And want to thank all of you that requested the songs
And made it possible for us to get that award
And this is one of the songs that I think maybe take a little notice or something)

Well today I started loving you again
And I'm right back where I've really always been
I got over you just long enough to let my heartaches mend
Then today I started loving you again

What a fool I was to think I could get by
With only these few million tears I've cried
And I should have known the worst was yet to come
And that crying time for me had just begun

Cause today I started loving you again...

Okie From Muskogee

Merle Haggard - Eddie Burris

© Blue Book Music, BMI

We don't smoke marijuana in Muskogee
We don't take our trips on LSD
We don't burn our draft cards down on Main Street
We like living right and being free

We don't make a party out of loving
We like holding hands and pitching woo
We don't let our hair grow long and shaggy
Like the hippies out in San Francisco do

And I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee
A place where even squares can have a ball
We still wave Ol' Glory down at the courthouse
And white lightning's still the biggest thrill of all

Leather boots are still in style for manly footwear
Beads and Roman sandals won't be seen
Football's still the roughest thing on campus
And the kids here still respect the college dean

All together everybody

I'm proud to be an Okie from Muskogee
Thank you
A place where even squares can have a ball
We still wave Ol' Glory down at the courthouse
And white lightning's still the biggest thrill of all
We still wave Ol' Glory down at the courthouse
In Muskogee Oklahoma USA
