Mississippi (Roll On Forever)

Bob McDill

© Hall-Clement Pub, BMI

Well to skitter some day so carry you away in the summertime
The weeds grow tall and the crickets and the frogs sing a lullaby
The whole town sleeps all day in the heat of the summer sun
So you sit on the bank and watch the river run

Ooh Mississippi roll on forever
Ooh Mississippi take me all the way to New Orleans

Well the willow tree sways in the heat all day by the riverside
When the sun gets high Lord it gets so quiet you could lose your mind
So you drink ice tea on the porch and you dream of far-a-way
I'm gonna leave this one horse town some day

Ooh Mississippi roll on forever...
Ooh Mississippi roll on forever...

A Little More Country

Dennis Linde

© Combine Music, BMI

The radio is playing but it makes feel me like crying
When it sings of broken people dreaming dreams that can't come true
Lemme hear a song about homefolks and some lovin' without lyin'
Doin' a hard day's work just like me and you

We need a little more country in them country songs
A little more right a little less wrong
A few less lonely sittin' in the bars
A few more lovers underneath the stars
A little more sunlight a little less rain
And a few more happy homes
And a little more country in them country songs
[ instrumental ]
The world is goin' crazy and I'm just one step behind it
Aw the music that it's making sounds cold and sad to me
If there's country in that music Lawd I just can't seem to find it
It's just a broken heart with a melody

We need a little more country in them country songs...
Oh we need a little more country in them country songs

Lovelight

Bob McDill

© Hall-Clement Pub, BMI

One lonely night after another all alone in my room
Lovers go by in love with each other me I got nothing to do
So I sit here by my window with an aching heart
Alone in the dark

Hey lovelight shine on me
Let somebody let somebody be
The one that the one that I've been dreaming of
Hey lovelight shine tonight like the moonlight through the dark night
And bring me bring me somebody to love
[ instrumental ]
Lovers they come lovers they go and the world goes around
I spend my nights searchin' their faces for a face in the crowd
And somewhere there's gotta be someone
And I know she'll be searching for me

Hey lovelight shine on me...
Hey lovelight shine on me...

You Sneaky Thing You

Bob McDill

© Hall-Clement Pub, BMI

I saw you walkin' down the street
I looked at you and you looked so sweet
There was nothing that I could do
You made me fall in love with you

Didn't want to but you walked by
Didn't mean to but I looked in your eyes
Didn't plan to but what could I do
You sneaky thing you

I couldn't think of a thing to say
I looked at you and you looked away
I don't know what you did to me
But I could feel my knees get weak

Didn't want to but you walked by...
[ instrumental ]
I never wanted to fall in love
It was last thing I was thinkin' of
Lawd above the next thing I knew
That I was in love with you

Didn't want to but you walked by...

The Hustler

Cyrus Kalb - Carlene Kalb

© Ray Stevens Music, BMI

It was a cool night in Dallas
At the Southside Nine Ball Palace
When I stepped in off the sidewalk with my pool cue in my hand
I said I've come for Texas Slim
We're gonna shoot nine ball me and him
And tonight we're gonna see who's a better man

Well I've heard he used to be the best
And I've already beaten all the rest
From New York to Chicago and LA
They say that he's the king of hustlers
An old time Texas pool hall rustler
Ain't he the man that used to say

Don't ever make it look too easy when you break 'em
Get all the money out on the table take the time to chalk and aim
Don't take pity on 'em son just take 'em
If you can't afford to lose then you should never play the game

Then out of the shadows dim
Stepped what once was Texas Slim
He is ripped worn and ragged and kinda rundown at the heels
He said it's been a long time son
Since I've shot pool with anyone
But I'll play you one game if that's the way you feel

Lord he was a pitiful looking man
With a three day growth and a trembling hand
He had to take a shot of whiskey to ease the shakes
I said I've come to take you for all you've got
Slim and it don't matter that it ain't a lot
Just to show you I'm a sportin' man you can have the break
[ instrumental ]
Then a smile crossed the face of every pool shark in that place
As Slim took down his custom inlaid pool cue from its stand
He said I've heard for days that you's a comin'
With your pockets full and your young mouth a runnin'
Now I'm gonna show you who's a better man

Then all I heard was a cue balls crack
And nine balls fall and Slim say rack
And he kept his run till all my money was gone
Then he looked at me with those eyes of ice
And said boy I'm gonna leave you with this advice
To ponder as you hitchhike your way back home

Don't ever make it look too easy when you break 'em...
Now don't ever make it look too easy when you break 'em...

Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On

Bob McDill

© Hall-Clement Pub, BMI

Down on the corner by the traffic light
Everybody's looking as she goes by
They turn their heads and they watch her till she's gone
Lord have mercy baby's got her blue jeans on

Up by the bus stop and across the street
Open up their windows to take a peek
Aw she goes walking rocking like a rolling stone
Heaven help us baby's got her blue jeans on

She can't help it if she's made that way
She's not to blame if they look her way
She ain't really tryin' to cause a scene
It just comes naturally
No the girl can't help it

Well up on Main Street by the taxi stand
There's a crowd of people in a traffic jam
She don't look back she ain't doing nothing wrong
Lord have mercy baby's got her blue jeans on

She can't help it if she's made that way...
Down on the corner by the traffic light...
Heaven help us baby's got her blue jeans on

Dreamin' With You

Randy Cullers - Mel McDaniel

© Combine Music, BMI

Here half asleep in the shadows
City lights flashin' by
That ole Okie moon's a shinin'
Again for dreamers tonight
The noise and laughter have faded
Like the songs the players are still
But it just ain't my night for sleepin'
Just another slow one to kill

Doin' one night stands with a lover
That I can't even hold
She leads me on like no other
Got me singin' for silver and gold
I wish I was there dreamin' with you
[ instrumental ]
They sure liked my songs in Tulsa
Made the old ones all seem brand new
I really got into the sad ones
And girl I sure sang em blue
How the whole world's a song for the dreamer
Like a dream he believes it's true
But the world ain't no song for the singer
When there's no dreamin' with you

Dreamin' with you under that Okie moon
Us on the ground stars all around
The magic of love in bloom

Let It Roll (Let It Rock)

Eric Anderson

© Arc Music, BMI

In the heat of the day down in Mobile Alabama
Workin' on A railroad with a steel drivin' hammer
Gotta get some money buy some brand new shoes
Try to find somebody take away these blues
She don't love me here I'm singin' in the sun
Payday's comin' when my work is all done
[ instrumental ]
Well oven in the evenin' when the sun is sinkin' low
All day I've waitin' for the whistle to blow
Sittin' in a teepee built a right on the tracks
Rollin' them bones till the foreman comes back
Pick up your belongings boys scatter about
We got an off shedule train comin' two miles out

Let it roll let it roll let it roll let it roll
Pick up your belongings boys scatter about
We got an off shedule train comin' two miles out
[ instrumental ]
Well everybody's scramblin' and they're jumpin' around
Pickin' up the money tearin' the teepee down
Foreman was a panic bout to go insane
Tryin' to get the workers out the way of the train
Engineer blowin' the whistle loud and long
Can't stop the train they gotta let it roll on

Let it roll let it roll let it roll let it roll
Engineer blowin' the whistle long and loud
Can't stop the train they gotta let it roll on

My Ol' Four Wheel Drive

Bob McCullough - Sean McCullough

© PolyGram Int, ASCAP

Hey my four by four she's ridin' high
While the weekdays they go slidin' by
Weekend comes we'll get down again
Slingin' mud in the badlands

Well she'll go anywhere I want to go
She don't care if there ain't no road
She'll climb any hill I need to climb
Leave my troubles and the world behind

Well I work real hard and I play real hard
Been that way all of my life
I love my woman and I love my hound dog
And I love my ole fourwheel drive
[ instrumental ]
So tomorrow mornin' gonna take a ride
Back in the woods where the fox squirrel hide
Gonna take my woman gonna take ole blue
My woman and my dog they like to ride too

Well I work real hard and I play real hard...
And I work real hard and I play real hard...
I love my ole fourwheel drive
Love my ole fourwheel drive

I Can Never Get You Off My Mind

Joe Chambers - Larry Jenkins

© MCA Music, ASCAP

The roofs got leaks and the truck don't run
There's a lotta things to do that I ain't done
I'd do 'em if I could if I could find the time
But I can never get you off of my mind
No I can never get you off of my mind

The fence needs fixin' and the grass is too tall
The paper's pealin' off of the bathroom wall
I'd fix 'em if I could if I could find the time
But I can never get you off of my mind
No I can never get you off of my mind

If I could get you off of my mind I could do anything
Make a blind man see make a preacher man sing
Make a up go down left go right
If I could get you in my arms tonight

Now I'd do anything that you ask me to
All I need Honey’s just a word from you
Tell me that you love me till the end of time
And let me get you off of my mind
No I can never get you off my mind
[ instrumental ]
I could grab a tornado turn it into a breeze
Make an earthquake still make a forest fire freeze
Make sugar out of salt and turn water to wine
If I could ever get you off of my mind
No I can never get you off of my mind

If I could get you off of my mind I could do anything...
Now I'd do anything that you ask me to...
