My Carolina Home

Bobby Bond

© Acuff-Rose Music, BMI

I seen me a lotta big cities I been in a lotta fine towns
I laid down my head on a lotta good beds and done a lotta bummin' around
I met me a lotta good people I got friends all over this world
Manys a day I draw my pay and find my pockets full

But you know I still miss my Carolina home
The friends and the people and the roads I used to roam
So every chance that I find my lonely troubled mind
Takes me back to my Carolina home
[ steel ]
Well I got me a place in the country I love my liitle kids and my wife
I just about got it worked out to where I got a pretty good life
But whenever I take to that highway there's one thing I want you to know
I look for the sign that says Caroline the place I'm a longin' to go

You know I still miss my Carolina home...
Take me back to my Carolina Home

Child's Song

Murray McLauchlan

© Nimby Music, ASCAP

Goodbye mama goodbye to you too paw
Little sister you'll have to wait a while to come along
Goodbye to this house and all its mem'ries
We all just got to old so say we're wrong

I've got to make one last trip to my bedroom
I guess I'll have to leave some stuff behind
Funny how the same old crooked pictures
Just don't look the same to me tonight

Ain't no use in sheddin' no more tears ma
Ain't no use in shoutin' at me pa
I can't live no longer with your fears ma
I love you but that hadn't helped at all

All of us has got to do what matters
And each of us must see what we can see
Though it was long ago you must remember
That you were once as young and scared as me

Mama I don't know how hard it is yet
When you realized you're growin' old
I know how hard it is now to be younger
I know you tried to keep me from the cold

Thanks for all you've done it may sound hollow
But thank you for them good times that we've known
But I must have my own road to follow
You will all be welcomed in my home

I have got my suitcase I must go now
I don't mind about them things you said
Sorry mom I just don't know where I'm goin'
Remember little sister look ahead

Tomorrow I'll be in some other sunrise
And maybe I'll have someone by my side
Mama give your love back to your husband
Father you have taught me well goodbye
Goodbye mama goodbye to you too paw

Colorado

Ed Penney - John Domurand

© All Music, ASCAP

High on the top of the highest hill
Where the woods are dryand the wind is still you'll find me
Gazin' across a sea of pine I'm ready if I see a sign
Of risin' smoke scarlet flame play the forrest ranger game
Out where the Rocky Mountains are
With the telephones and the traffic far behind me
Colorado Colorado

I got a gal in Denver town who says she wants to settle down and love me
But then she says she'd rather see me workin' in a factory
A pumpin' gas sellin' stock at home at night at five o'clock
I tell her I can't make that scene but then she says she's only thinking of me
Colorado Colorado

Now the rain is fallin' and the woods are wet
I tell myself I must forget about her
Why can't that woman realize it cost too much to comprise
A man's no good unless he's free and I must be what I must be
If all the love I have to give is not enough I'll learn to live without her

You Wanted Me To Tell You Like It Is

Ray Griff

© Blue Echo Music, ASCAP

Your request in the beggin' was for me to tell you where you stand
N matter what position it might be
Well baby I've stuck to it and I've never failed to let you know
How things stood when it came to you and me
Now I find it necessary to advise you at this moment
That my feelin' for you is not the way it was
The truth is what you wanted and so that's just what you're a gettin'
When I tell you that I've found another love

You never should have told me that you wanted me to tell you like it is
But that's something you insisted on and I believe that you were positive
If you weren't prepared to face up to the disappointment of our differences
Then you never should have told me that you wanted me to tell you like it is
[ fiddle - guitar ]
I'm not much for sudden endins' but it's best to get it over with
To live together now would be a lie
I had to level with you but I'm really very sorry
That this news I broke to you has made you cry
If there'd been an easy method you can bet I would have used it
Stead of laying everything down on the line
It's wrong to be pretendin' that I still do care about you
When another woman has this heart of mine

You never should have told me that you...
Then you never should have told me that you wanted me to tell you like it is

Just Bidin' My Time

Gene McLellan

© Beechwood Music, BMI

I can't believe that you're honestly thinking of leavin' me
Cause I thought that leavin' really wasn't even on your mind
I'm drowning in tears drowning constantly nearer to misery
I'm a bidin' my time while the glow from the wine makes a fool of me

Over and over I practice every day
What to say when I see you
But then I see you my tears get in the way

I spend my nights making up things I might have to say to you
To stop you from goin' so keep you from knowin' how I feel
But till the light says goodbye to the night and your face I see
I'll just be bidin' my time while the glow from the wine makes a fool of me
[ steel ]
Over and over I practice every day
What to say when I see you
But then I see you my tears get in the way hey hey hey

I spend my nights making up things...
Yeah bidin' my time while the glow from the wine makes a fool of me

(# 63 country hit)

Country Music In My Soul

Bobby Bond

© Acuff-Rose Music, BMI

I been travelin' down the highways with my guitar for so long
Shakin' hands and meetin' lots of folks
Living my life my way with a handshake and a song
Caring little if I was rich or broke

Cause there's country music in my soul
People music for the young and the old
I'll keep on singing a song keep on keeping on
Cause there's country music in my soul

Well I met a man in Illinois who came to hear our show
Well he brought his wife and all his fourteen kids
Why he took the trouble Lord I swear I'll never know
Well we'd give 'em everything we had to give

Cause there's country music in my soul...

When the final curtain falls and I go to meet the Lord
If he asks me what I think I'd like to do
I'll humbly request he seat the people on the floor
Cause I kinda like to sing 'em all the tune

Cause there's country music in my soul
People music for the young and the old
I'll keep on singing a song keep on keeping on
Cause there's country music in my soul
Yeah yeah yes there's country music in my soul
Oh oh yes there's country music in my soul

Ain't Life Easy

Neal Davenport - Horace Davenport

© Unichappell Music, BMI

Woke up in a trainyard just outside of town
From a dream that left tears clingin' to my eyes
Funny how you just can't sleep on a cold wet ground
Or eat cold beans when you're used to apple pie

Then I got me up and I stretched my bones
Preparation for a long weary road
But just before I had me the chance to walk away
A voice from a boxcar door called out to say

Ain't life easy (ain't life easy)
When you got no where to go (no where to go)
Got nothin' to do lucky you ain't life easy for you

Fifty miles from Tulsa Lord I stopped to rest
Layed my bags on the side of the road
Watched a sparrow gathering twigs to build him a nest
Suddenly I wished I had his load

But just before I had me the chance to get back on my feet
A man in a passin' car called out to me
And when I told him I just wadn't headed nowhere
He looked up and me and I heard him say

Ain't life easy (ain't life easy)...

Miles away from no where night was a coming down
So I stopped to lay me down to sleep
Never knowing silence was such a lonely sound
In the background of such a happy memory

But laying there asleep it just would not come
And when I got up and saw the risin' sun
I did nothing but to stretched my tired old bones
In preparation for a long weary road

Ain't life easy (ain't life easy)...

If You've Been Wondering

Richard Neufeld

© Broadland Music, BMI

If you've been a wonderin' what's become of me
I guess there didn't very much that I can say
Well I've been thinkin' bout it lately too
A waitin' for the answer comin' any day

Been here and there about a year or so
Doesn't really seem to be that long to me
But when I think about my country home
Time and distance get to spinnin' crazily

I remember spring and how it was
Waitin' for the sun to melt the snow away
We'll start to put the crop in any day

I can still see Dad look down at me and say
Chores are done and I got time to go to town
So up into the truck and on our way
Lookin' over snowy fields to find a patch of ground

I remember summer and how it was
Sun and rain and the ripin' grain and makin' hay
Soon it's fall and harvestin' is under way

The town it wasn't much just street and stores
Seems you knew most everyone and they'd say hi
Grain elevators standin' tall and proud
Reflectin' our existence sharp against the sky

I remember winter and how it was
Silence and the storm that we've been waiting for
With fires a cracklin' and the snowflakes soar

Sunday mornings we'd all go to church
Mother says we haven't missed a week in seven years
Winter evenings I'd go courtin' some
The girl with golden hair and a few too many tears

I remember love and how it was
Sometimes it's better not to fall in love at all
So sad when love can bloom in spring and die in fall

If you've been a wonderin' what's become of me
I guess there it didn't very much that I can say
Well I've been thinkin' bout it lately too
A waitin' for the answer comin' any day

Streets Of London

Ralph McTell

© Essex Music, ASCAP

Have you seen the old man in the closed down market
Kicking up the papers with his worn out shoes
In his eyes you see no pride hand held loosely at his side
Yesterday's paper telling yesterday's news

Have you seen the old girl who walks the streets of London
Dirt in her hair and her clothes in rags
She's no time to talkin' she just keeps right on walkin'
Carrying her home in two carrier bags

How can you tell me you're lonely
Say for you that the sun don't shine
Let me take you by the hand lead you through the streets of London
I'll show you something to make you change your mind
[ guitar ]
In the all night cafe at a quarter past eleven
Same old man sittin' there on his own
Looking at the world over the rim of his teacup
Each tea last an hour and he wanders home alone

Have you seen the old man outside the seaman's mission
Memo'y fading with the medal ribbons that he wears
In our winter city the snow cries so a little pity
For one more forgotten hero and the world that doesn't care

How can you tell me you're lonely...
I'll show you something I hope will change your mind

Twist Of The Wrist

Bill Anderson - Red Lane

© Tree Pub, BMI

Just a twist of the wrist and my ring leaves your finger
It touches the table then falls to the floor
And the look in your eye tells me this time it's over
A twist of the wrist and you're not mine anymore

With a twist of the wrist you're opening the door now
I stand like a statute and try not to cry
I whisper don't leave me but you don't seem to hear me
With a twist of the wrist you're waving goodbye
[ guitar ]
Just a twist of the wrist and the key starts your car now
You haven't even come back for one final kiss
It's almost like sayin' you never even loved me
For I've meant no more than a twist of the wrist

With a twist of the wrist you turn from the driveway
I stand like a statute try not to cry
I whisper don't leave me but you don't seem to hear me
With a twist of the wrist you're waving goodbye
