My friends are all workin' for an extra TV
Two cars in the driveway and a place by the sea
While I'm sittin' and a thinkin' in my FAJ shack
But the knowledge I ain't got and the payments are lack
But in one hundred years where will they be
In a mansion on a hilltop or a place by the sea
I guess they'll be sorry of poor little me
There's no room in this rat race for a slowpoke like me
[ instrumental ]
I got three little children and a dog and a cat
They couldn't careless where my study is at
And there's a mighty big movie on a late show tonight
Honey let's pop some popcorn and turn down the light
Let the others keep fightin' what good are their tears
We'll all be forgotten in a one hundred years
Love is our treasure and it's a fortune for free
There's no room in this rat race for a slowpoke like me
But I guess they'll be sorry for you and for me
There's no room in this rat race for slowpokes like we

Jesus loves the little children all the children of the world
Red and yellow black and white they are precious in his sight
Jesus loves the little children of the world
Everything is beautiful in its own way
Like a starry summer night or a snow covered winter's day
Everybody's beautiful in their own way
Under God's heaven the world's gonna find a way
There is none so blind as he who will not see
We must not close our minds we must let our thoughts be free
For every hour that passes by you know this world gets a little bit older
It's time to realize that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder
Everything is beautiful in its own way...
We shouldn't care about the length of his hair of the color of his skin
Don't worry about what shows from without but the love that lives within
We're gonna get it all together now and everything's gonna work out fine
Take the time to look on the good side and straighten it out in your mind
Everything is beautiful in its own way...
Everything is beautiful in its own way...

The best that I can do for you is a whole lot less that I'm wantin' to
Cause you're the sweetest girl I've ever known
Don't have much money in my jeans can't buy you lots of pretty things
I just wanna spend my life with you alone
I'll give you my life if you'll be my wife
That's the best that I can do
Cars and things and fancy clothes just like everybody knows
Will only lose their glamour much too soon
The things that I can offer you are real and warm and good and true
A church a kiss a ring and a honeymoon
[ instrumental ]
My folks say I'm acting like a fool sometimes I think they're awfully cruel
I wonder what they'd think if they knew
It's been many years since they first met when we're that old I won't forget
That's the best that I can do
That's the best that I can do

Busted flat in Baton Rouge headin' for the trains
Feelin' bout as faded as my jeans
Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained
Took us all the way to New Orleans
Took my ol' harpoon out of my dirty red bandana
And was blowin' sad while Bobby sang the blues
With them windshield whipers slapping time
And Bobby clapping hands we finally sang up ever song that driver knew
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose
Nothin' left was all she left of me
Feeling good was easy Lord when Bobby sang the blues
Feeling good was good enough for me good enough for me and Bobby McGee
[ instrumental ]
From the coal mines of Kentucky to the California sun
Bobby shared the secrets of my soul
Standin' there beside me God through everything I done
Every night she kept me from the cold
Then somewhere near Salinas Lord I let her slip away
Searchin' for the home I hope she'll find
I'd trade all of my tomorrows Lord for just one yesterday
Holding Bobby's body next to mine
Freedom's just another word for nothin' left to lose...
La la la la la la la la me and Bobby McGee...

In the fields where the shepherds rested by night
Came a light that Duzzle and Moldy was shining so bright
In the east there were wisemen watching the star
They proclaimed in a manger in Bethlehem there would be born a new king
The wisemen mounted their camels and followed the star
The shepherds bowed before a heavenly choir
And Matthias sang proclaiming there's greatest star
Let love began peace on earth good will to men
In a stable for there was no room in the end
Was a manger with a couple of doring and infant within
Gathered round where the wisemen come from afar
They proclaimed that the babe in the manger was born to be the new king
He brought to earth the message of brotherly love
A hope for piece sent by his father above
No greater love can anyone ever send
Than he who said piece on earth good will to men
Than he who said piece on earth good will to men

Well I woke up Sunday morning with no way to hold my head that didn't hurt
And the beer I had for breakfast wadn't bad so I had one more for desert
Then I fumbled through the closet for my clothes and found my cleanest dirty shirt
And I shaved my face and combed my hair stumbled down the stairs to meet the day
Well I'd smoke my brain the night before with cigarettes and them songs I'd been a pickin'
Well I lit my first and watched the small kid coursin' at a can that he's been a kickin'
Then I crossed the empty street and caught the Sunday smell of someone's fryin' chicken
And it took me back to somethin' that I'd lost somewhere somehow along the way
On the Sunday morning sidewalk wishing Lord that I was stoned
Cause there's something in a Sunday makes a body feel alone
And there's nothing sure of dying that's half as lonesome as the sound
Of the sleeping city sidewalk and Sunday morning coming down
In the park I saw a daddy with the laughin' little girl that he was a swingin'
And I stopped beside a Sunday school and listened to the songs that they were singin'
Then I headed back for home and somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'
And it echoed through the canyons like my disappearing dreams of yesterday
On the Sunday morning sidewalk wishing Lord that I was stoned...

Well back in the country in my hometown I'm the coolest fastest man around
I got a hot rod car and you oughta see it run
I went out ridin' with a friend of mine we started passin' everybody way down the line
And I felt pretty good and boy we was havin' fun
Suddenly I didn't feel so fine cause a highway cop pulled up behind
So I asked my friend if the cop was after me
He just sat there a tremblin' all over
Like he had a great deal of respect of the state police and said
Well if you don't know I ain't gonna tell you from now on it's up to you fellow
Thank you for notice of what I'm talkin' about
There was a little blonde lived down on the corner
All the boys thought that she was a goner
So I got me a date and we went for a ride one night
We rolled along and I held her hand I felt just like a grown up man
Till she stood over close and hugged me up real tight
I started to stop to get out and run but I didn't wanna miss out on all the fun
So I asked her to teach me to spoon beneath the moon
She just looked up at me and winked them big beautiful blue eyes and said
Well if you don't know I ain't gonna tell you from now on it's up to you fellow
Words don't count at a time like this
[ instrumental ]
Well I finally wised up and I learned all the tricks
And now I'm the coolest cat in the sticks
And I've got more gals than anybody else I know
I drink white lightnin' and I travel mighty far
I like pretty gals and souped up cars
I'm a traveling man and I'm always on the go
There's some bootleg liquor bein' sold in town
And the sheriff's been huntin' all around
But nobody knows who the manufacturer is
You ask me why I drive a hot rod coupe DeLuxe
With three carburetors straight stick shift souped up engine
High compression heads and overdrive
You don't know I ain't gonna tell you from now on it's up to you fellow
I think you know just what I'm talking about

Let me be a little kinder let me be a little blinder
To the faults of those around me let me praise a little more
Let me be when I am weary just a little bit more cheery
Think a little more of others and a little less of me
Let me be a little braver when temptation bits me waver
Let me strive a little harder to be all that I should be
Let me be a little meeker with the brother who is weaker
Think more of my buddys and a whole lot less of me
Let me be when I am weary just a little bit more cheery
Let me serve a little better those that I am striving for
Let me be a little meeker with the brother who is weaker
Think a little more of others and a little less of me
Think a lot more bout my neighbors and a whole lot less of me

When I was a kid I was pretty wise
I could whip any feller two times my size
Got me a skunk and I put 'im in a box
And I went to see the kid who lived down the block
I said I got a secret
He said well gosh George won't you show me yeah
Well he opened it up and he got a whiff
It knocked him down and it jarred him stiff
He held his nose and he let out a moan
I picked up my box and I trapped on home
I've got a secret I've got a secret
Now you may think that it ain't no fun
But just ask the man who owns one
It'll hit you like a shell from a twelve gauge gun
Pick up your feet and try to run
But it ain't no use it'll cook your goose
I've got a secret
At the age of twelve I went to a dance
Met a little girl who put me in a trance
I guess I fell in love at first sight
Cause we danced together most all the night
And I said ma'm I got a secret
She said tell me George
I kissed her big and it must've felt good
Cause it knocked her down like I knew it would
I laughed and watched her lyin' on the floor
And this is what I said when she hollered for more
I've got a secret
Well as the years went by I got a little older
Along with age I grew a little bolder
Me and my date was sittin' in the park
And the moon was pretty and the night was dark
And I said honey I got a secret
And she said yippee
We sat there awhile and forgot about the time
And now her name is the same as mine
We got sixteen kids to keep us happy
And they all tell secrets to their pappy
I've got a secret I got a secret

On Christmas Eve I went a walking out beyond the city gate
For to fetch a fresh young pheasant for my darling's Christmas plate
It was snowing oh so quietly and the woods were wide and soft
Just the sound of snowflakes falling and the footsteps as I walked
There I saw a fresh young pheasant and I shot and killed him there
And I heard a distant church bell as the bird fell from the air
As I held his dying body the strangest thought came over me
God had made his little body that I had killed on Christmas Eve
All the woods were dark and shadowed with the lights the cold stars gave
I sent a prayer to God in heaven and covered up the little grave
And covered up the little grave
