Back To Denver

Bobby Bond

© Acuff-Rose Music, BMI

Judy your breakfast was good I'd have me some more if I could
Your biscuits and love have filled me your beautiful presents sustill me
You're treatin' me just like a king I know what tomorrow will bring
That's kind of a comforting thing

But sometimes I wish I was thumbin' my way back to Denver
With nothin' to bother my mind and nothin' ahead but blue sky
Highway and time

Your shutters you keep closed up tight you iron my shirts about right
The coffee and cake that you bring me
The songs and the rhymes that you sing me
Are nice but once in a while I wish you'd forget how to smile
And though you really treat me in style

But sometimes I wish I was thumbin' my way back to Denver...
Sometimes I wish I was thumbin' my way back to Denver...

Suzanne

Leonard Cohen

© Project 7 Music, BMI

Suzanne takes you down to her place near the river
You can hear the boats go by you can stay the night beside her
And you know she's half crazy but that's why you want to be there
And she feeds you tea and oranges that come all the way from China
Just when you mean to tell her that you have no love to give her
Then she gets you on her wave length and she lets the river answer
That you've always been her lover
And you want to travel with her and you want to travel blind
And you know she will trust you
Cause you've touched her perfect body with your mind

And Jesus was a sailor when he walked upon the water
And he spent a long time searching from his lonely wooden tower
And just when he knew for certain only drowning men could see him
He said all men will be sailors then until the sea shall free them
But he himself was broken long before the sky would open
Forsaken almost human he sank beneath your wisdom like a stone
And you want to travel with him and you want to travel blind
And you think may be you'll trust him
For he's touched your perfect body with his mind

Suzanne takes your hand and she leads you to the river
She's weaving rags and feathers from salvation army counters
And the sun pours down like honey on our lady of the harbor
And she shows you where to look among the garbage and the flowers
There are heroes in the seaweed there are children in the morning
They are leaning out for love they will lean that way forever
While Suzanne holds the mirror
And you want to travel with her and you want to travel blind
And you know that you can trust her
For she's touched your perfect body with her mind

Lunch Time

Billy Edd Wheeler

© Bexhill Music, ASCAP

She walked up to my table in the restaurant and said whatcha gonna have
I said I don't know just let me look at the menu then come back
When she brought me a glass of water I knew then what I wanted but I said
Bring me a chicken salad sandwich on toasted plain white bread

That day my indigestion bugged me as I left and thought of her
But everyday I came back there to eat and pretty soon we were friends
Friends on our first date I can't tell you how my heart beat
And I chuckle when I think of how it started with just a bite to eat

And that's how a love begins how it's ended I don't know
Love seems to come from nowhere but where does it go

She got so she'd call me up and say good morning rise and shine
Lunch time took so long to come and then past so fast
But evenin' time was a treasure chest we filled with joys
Like dreamin' of worlds filled with children and tinker toys

But love like a rainbow disappeared from my sky
She moved on and like she said she didn't like goodbye
I quit eatin' lunch at all I'd take a walk and then have a drink
Cause everytime I sat down tried to eat somewhere it'd make me think

That's how a love begins...

It's More Than Honey (That I'm After)

Alex Harvey

© UA Music, ASCAP

I lit here like a honeybee on a daffodil
Buzzed around until I found the sweetest flower on the hill
But I'd give up buzzin' round to share your tears and laughter
And I want you to know it's more that honey that I'm after

Your lips are like a nectar I never thought I find
Ever since that first kiss I've had one thing on my mind
I wanna be a one flower bee and stay with you forever
And I want you to know it's more that honey that I'm after

All the words are not just to make you give your honey to me
It's more than honey that I'm after for love is sweeter than honey

And later on when the honey's gone I'll be staying here with you
Cause I know in the afterglow we can see it all come true
All our little daffodils will paint the fields with laughter
So I want you to know it's more than honey that I'm after
(More than honey that I'm after)

Take My Hand For Awhile

Buffy Sainte Marie

© Gypsy Boy Music, ASCAP

Take my hand for awhile explain it to me once again
Just for the sake of my broken heart
Look into my eyes and maybe I will understand
Our love I counted on was never there
You see I've thought that you might love me
So you caught me it seems off balance with the heart that's full
Of love and pretty dreams that two should share
[ instrumental ]
And so I know but please before you go
Take my hand for awhile explain it to me once again
Just for the sake of my broken heart

No Regrets

Tom Rush

© Tubbs Hill Music, BMI

I know your leaving's too long overdue
For far too long I've had nothing new to show you
Goodbye dry eyes I've watched your plain feet off west to the moon
It felt so strange to walk away alone

No regrets no tears goodbye
Don't want you back we'd only cry again
Say goodbye again

The hours that were yours echoe like empty rooms
The thoughts we used to share I now keep alone
I woke last night and spoke to you not thinking you were gone
It felt so strange to lie awake alone

No regrets no tears goodbye...

Our friends have tried to turn my nights to day
Strange faces in your place can't keep the ghost away
Just beyond the darkest hour just behind the dawn
Still feels so strange to leave my life alone

No regrets no tears goodbye...

Wonderful World Of My Dreams

John D. Loudermilk

© Acuff-Rose Music, BMI

Maybe it's foolish pretending a fool's paradise it may seem
But each night I continue to holds in a wonderful world of my dreams

When my broken heart get so lonely and stats coming part at the scene
Well I just walk over and mend it in a wonderful world of my dreams

Moments gone forever I've relived them there it seem
And just like old times you still love me in a wonderful world of my dreams

Although you say that it's over you've sent back my letters and rings
Each night I continue to hold you in a wonderful world of my dreams

Moments gone forever I've relived them there it seem...

A Truer Love You'll Never Find

Red Lane

© Tree Pub, BMI

Empty all my pockets take away my gold
Stripp me of my innocence leave me in the cold

Rob me of my patience and mess up my mind
If that's all it takes to love you girl
Then a truer love you'll never find than mine

Set my very soul on fire burn it to the ground
Take my little loveless world turn it upside down

Rob me of my patience and mess up my mind...
[ instrumental ]
Here I am on bended knees I'll do anything to please
Your kind of love to set me free if I could only make you see me

Rob me of my patience and mess up my mind...

Everything's Leaving

Red Lane

© Tree Pub, BMI

The sunlight turns the shadows that fall across my window sill
And grow longer and longer as the sun vacates the sky
The wind blown rustling leaves are racing down my driveway
As I visualize you standing on the hill waving goodbye

Cause everything's leaving everything's leaving
Since you've left me it seems that nothing wants to stay around
I think that I should take the hint and get on out of this town
Cause everything's leaving everything's leaving
[ instrumental ]
My teardrops are running wild and dripping off my shoetops
And disappearin' quickly in the rug upon the floor
Oh memories apply expanding pressure to my thinking
The memories of love that may be gone for evermore

Cause everything's leaving everything's leaving...

Did She Mention My Name

Gordon Lightfoot

© Seven Arts Music, ASCAP

It's so nice to meet an old friend and pass the time of day
And talk about the hometown a million miles away
Is the ice still in the river are the old folks still the same
And by the way did she mention my name

Did she mention my name just in passing
And when the morning came do you remember if she dropped a name or two
Is the home team still on fire do they still win all their games
And by the way did she mention my name
[ instrumental ]
Is the landlord still a loser do his signs hang in the hall
Are the young girls still as pretty in the city in the Fall
Does the laughter on their faces still put the sun to shame
And by the way did she mention my name

Did she mention my name just in passing
And when the talk ran high did the look in her eyes seem far away
Is the old roof still leaking when the late snow turns to rain
And by the way did she mention my name
[ instrumental ]
Did she mention my name just in passing
And looking at the rain do you remember if she dropped a name or two
Won't you say hello from someone there'll be no need to explain
And by the way did she mention my name
And by the way did she mention my name

You Never Understood Me

Wayne Berry

© Acuff-Rose Music, BMI

Early in the morning when you rise and see I've left you
You will find this note that tells you why I had to go

Be careful how you spend your time when I'm no longer with you
I've given you more thought than I had cause to try and give you
I know that when I'm gone I'll still be somewhere there within you
But you never understood me like I thought you would

You might uncover tears admid the wardrobe I am a leaving
The suit that I no longer use the gloves that hid my bleeding
I tried to give you all I could I tried to teach you needing
But you never understood me like I thought you would

Alone within the dark I felt your tears and heard you crying
You haven't understood as yet to live you must start dying
The need to find forever dear is just not worth the trying
And you never understood me like I thought you would

No you've never been a habit and your mem'ry don't enslave me
Why I've known from the very start that you could never save me
Time to rearrange myself was a really all you gave me
And you never understood me like I thought you would

Well I'm going on alone with hope that you will try and find me
It doesn't slow me down to know that you're somewhere behind me
The glow from all your righteousness would only start to blind me
And you never understood me like I thought you would
