Albert

Sid Hausman - Paul Ukena

© Blue Canyon Music, BMI

Albert used to come out here on several weekends every year
He'd fish away the time of day say goodbye and then drive away
An old cigar stub in his mouth the lit end had long since gone out
His baggy denim dungarees with faded patches on the knees

(Many years have come and gone and now I scarcely know)
The cool shades of the pines where the white birch trees grow
(Still I wonder now and then when I'm thinkin' all alone)
If Albert's changed since I was ten and of our cabin home

He'd mend things for us when they broke a ragged screen a leaky boat
A smile always on his face as he fixed things around the place
He shared a little two-room flat with his wife above the laundromat
And any friend that came to town would always check to see if Albert was around

(Many years have come and gone and now I scarcely know...

Though I'm livin' far away in my mind it seems just like yesterday
He smiled at me and said hello pushed off his boat and began to row
That old cigar stub in his mouth the lit end had long since gone out
And them baggy denim dungarees with the faded patches on the knees

Many years have come and gone and now I scarcely know...
