Well I come home the other night just as drunk as I could be
And there was a hat on the ol' hat rack where my hat's s'posed to be
Well I said to my wife I said hey there wife explain all this to me
What's that hat doin' on the rack where my hat's s'posed to be

Well she said you fool you drunk old fool can't ya plainly see
That ain't nothin' but an old bed pot that grandma gave to me
Well I've traveled this whole world over about a thousand times or more
But a John B Stetson bed pot I ain't never seen before

Then I come home the second night just as drunk as I could be
And there's a pair of pants on the chair where my pants is s'posed to be
Well I said to my wife I said hey there wife explain all this to me
What's them britches doin' on that chair where my britches s'posed to be

She said you fool you drunk old fool can't ya plainly see
That ain't nothin' but just a dish rag that grandma gave to me
Well I've traveled this whole world over at least a thousand trips or more
But a dish rag with a zipper on it I ain't never seen that before
And pockets and cuffs

Well then I come home the third night just as messed up as I could be
And there was a head layin' on the pillow where my head's s'posed to be
Well I said to my wife I said hey look here wife you better explain this to me
What's that head doin' on the pillow where my head's s'posed to be

Well she said you fool you drunk old fool can't ya plainly see
That ain't nothin' but a cabbage head that grandma gave to me
Well I've traveled this whole world over about a thousand times or more
But a cabbage head with a handlebar mustache I ain't never seen that before

Well on the fourth night I just didn't come home
Why should I
