IT MUST BE HIM
(Hal David - Burt Bacharach)
« © '66 BMG Songs, ASCAP »

I tell myself what's done is done I tell myself don't be a fool
Play the field have a lotta fun it's easy when you play it cool
I tell myself don't be a chump who cares let him stay away
That's when the phone rings and I'd jump and as I grab the phone I pray

Let it please be him oh dear God it must be him it must be him
Or I shall die or I shall die
Hello hello my dear God it must be him but it's not him
And then I'll die that's when I die

After awhile I'm myself again pick the pieces off the floor
Put my heart on the shelf again he'll never hurt me anymore
I'm not a puppet on the string I'll find somebody else someday
That's when the phone rings and once again I pray

Let it please be him oh dear God...

TAKE MY HAND FOR AWHILE
(Buffy Sainte Marie)
« © '68 Gypsy Boy Music, ASCAP »

Take my hand for awhile explain it to me once again
Just for the sake of my broken heart
Look into my eyes and maybe I will understand
How the love I counted on was never there
You see I've thought that you might love me
So you caught me it seems off valums with the heart that's full
Of love and pretty dreams that two should share
[ piano ]
And so I know but please before you go
Take my hand for awhile explain it to me once again
Just for the sake of my broken heart

END OF THE WORLD
(Arthur Kent - Sylvia Dee)
« © '62 Edward Proffitt Music, ASCAP / Music Sales, ASCAP »

Why does the sun go on shining why does the sea rush to shore
Don't they know it's the end of the world cause you don't love me anymore

Why do the birds go on singing why do the stars glow above
Don't they know it's the end of the world it ended when I lost your love

I wake up in the morning and I wonder why everything's the same as it was
I can't understand no I can't understand why life goes on the way it does

Why does my heart go on beating why do these eyes of mine cry
Don't they know it's the end of the world it ended when you said goodbye

Why does my heart go on beating...

I'M SORRY
(Ronnie Self - Dub Albritten)
« © '60 Songs Of Universal, BMI »

I'm sorry so sorry that I was so such a fool
I didn't know love could be so cruel

You tell me mistakes or a part of being young
But that don't right all the wrong that's been done
(I'm sorry) I'm sorry (so sorry) so sorry please accept my apology
But love is blind love and I was too blind to see

You tell me mistakes...

OLD CAPE COD
(Claire Rothrock - Alan Jeffrey - Milt Yakus)
« © '57 George Pincus & Sons Music, ASCAP »

If you're fond of sand dunes and salty air
Quaint little villages here and there
You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

If you like the taste of a lobster stew
Served by a window with an ocean view
You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod

Winding roads that seem to beckon you
Miles of green beneath the skies of blue
Church bells chiming on a Sunday morn
Remind you of the town where you were born

If you spend an evening you'll want to stay
Watching the moonlight on Cape Cod Bay
You're sure to fall in love with old Cape Cod
Old Cape Cod

UNTIL IT'S TIME FOR YOU TO GO
(Buffy Sainte Marie)
« © '65 Gypsy Boy Music, ASCAP »

You're not a dream you're not an angel you're a man
I'm not a queen I'm a woman take my hand
We'll make a space in the lives that we planned
And here we'll stay until it's time for you to go

Yes we're different worlds apart we're not the same
We laughed and played at the start like in a game
You could have stayed outside my heart but in you came
And here you'll stay until it's time for you to go

Don't ask why don't ask how
Don't ask forever but love me love me now

This love of mine had no beginning it has no end
I was an oak now I'm a willow now I can bend
And though I'll never in my life see you again
Still I'll stay until it's time for you to go

Don't ask why of me don't ask how of me
Don't ask for me love me love me now

You're not a dream...

BROKEN HEARTED MELODY
(Hal David - Stoney Edwards)
« © '69 Casa David Music, ASCAP / Keith-Valerie Music, ASCAP »

Broken hearted melody once you were our song of love
Now you keep on toning me with the memory of his tender love
Oh broken hearted melody must you keep reminding me
Of the lips I long to kiss and the love I miss
Since you went away night and day they play
That broken hearted melody that he used to sing to me
When our love was young and bright and he held me tight
Suddenly I'd found I was heaven bound

Broken hearted melody once you were our song of love
Now you just keep toning me with the memory of his tender love
Oh broken hearted melody oh won't you bring him back to me
Sing to him till he yearns for me he returns
No more will you be a broken hearted melody broken hearted melody

D-I-V-O-R-C-E
(Bobby Braddock - Curly Putman)
« © '68 Tree Publishing, BMI »

Our little boy is four years old and quite a little man
So we spell out the words we don't want him to understand
Like t-o-y or maybe s-u-r-p-r-i-s-e
But the words we're hiding from him now tear the heart right out of me

Our d-i-v-o-r-c-e becomes final today
Me and little J-o-e will be going away
I love you both and this will be pure h-e double L for me
How I wish that we could stop this d-i-v-o-r-c-e

Watch him smile he thinks it's Christmas or his fifth birthday
And he thinks c-u-s-t-o-d-y spells fun or play
I spell out all the hurtin' words and turn my head when I speak
Cause I can't spell away this hurt that's rolling down my cheeks

Our d-i-v-o-r-c-e becomes final today...

HARPER VALLEY P.T.A.
(Tom T. Hall)
« © '67 Newkeys Music, BMI / Unichappell Music, BMI »

I wanna tell you all the story bout the Harper Valley widow wife
Who had a teenage daughter who attended Harper Valley Junior High
Well her daughter came home one afternoon and didn't even stop to play
And she said mom I got a note here from the Harper Valley PTA

Well the note said Mrs Johnson you're wearing your dresses much too high
It's reported you've been drinkin' and a runnin' round with men and goin' wild
And we don't believe you oughta be a bringin' up your little girl this way
And it was signed by the secretary of the arper Valley PTA

Well it happened that the PTA was gonna meet that very afternoon
And they were sure surprised when Mrs Johnson wore her miniskirt into the room
And as she walked up to the blackboard I can still recall the words she had to say
She said I'd like to address this meeting of the Harper Valley PTA

Now there's Bobby Taylor sittin' there and seven times he asked me for a date
And Mrs Taylor sure seems to use a lotta ice whenever he's away
And Mr Baker can you tell us why your secretary had to leave this town
And shouldn't wodow Jones be told to keep
Her window shades all pulled completely down

Well Mr Harper couldn't be here cause he stayed too long at Kelly's Bar again
And if you'll smell Shirley Thompson's breath you'll find she's had a little nip of gin
And when you have the nerve to tell me you think that as a mother I'm not fit
Well this is just a little Payton Place and you're all Harper Valley hypocrites

No I wouldn't put you on because it really did it happened just this way
The day my mama socked it to the Harper Valley PTA
The day my mama socked it to the Harper Valley PTA

LOVE IS JUST A PAIN IN THE HEART
(Red Lane - Dottie West)
« © '68 Tree Publishing, BMI »

Everybody's been in love at one time or another
Including me not so long ago
And everybody's been hurt in one way or the other
Let me say that I am one of those

How can others stay together and our love fall apart
To some love may be pretty but to me love's just the pain in the heart

I suppose there are many who lived a life like mine
In a world of love with everything to gain
A chosen few have been showered with true love everlasting
But here I am I'm left out in the rain

I just can't understand it I guess I'm not too smart
But all I've known is heartache so to me love's just the pain in the heart

TENNESSEE WALTZ
(Pee Wee King - Redd Stewart)
« © '48 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »

I was dancing with my darling to the Tennessee Waltz
When an old friend I happened to see
I untroduced him to my loved one and while they were dancing
My friend stole my sweetheart from me

I remember the night and the Tennessee Waltz
Only you know how much I have lost
Yes I lost my little darling the night
They were playing the beautiful Tennessee Waltz
[ strings ]
Now I know just how much I have lost
Yes I lost my little darling the night
They were playing the beautiful Tennessee Waltz

COME ON HOME
(Jack Rhodes - George Richey)
« © '68 Central Songs, BMI / Fort Knox Music, BMI / Trio Music, BMI »

Go on with your new love have a good good time
Take her out show her off fill her tall glass with wine
Live all you can I'll forgive you when the last thrill is gone
Just remember old faithful is waiting at home

Bright lights had you blinded for a long long time
Your rose colored world is such a long way from mine
I'm just a teardrop from a breakdown and I'm so all alone
Just remember when you wake up won't you please come on home

Come on home come on home never more to roam
I'll open wide my arms for love it's all right so come on home
I'll open wide my arms for love I still love you so come on home
