lp discography - covers & lyrics

It's ironic that an LP called Queen of Country Music would contain covers of pop songs like "Moody River" and "What Am I Living For," but it's a testament to Kitty's talent that she can make the songs sound like genuine country numbers. Furthermore, the rest of the record consists of excellent cuts like "Hello Walls," "Am I That Easy to Forget," and "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down," making the record a thoroughly enjoyable listen—even if it doesn't include any hit singles.

MOODY RIVER

(Gary D. Bruce) « © '61 Gary Bruce Music »
Moody River more deadly than the vainest knife
Moody River your muddy water took my baby's life

Last Saturday evening I came to the old oak tree
That stands beside the river where you were to meet me

On the ground your glove I found with a note address to me
It read dear love I've done you wrong now I must set you free

No longer can I live with this hurt and this sin
I just couldn't tell you that girl was just a friend

Moody River more deadly than the vainest knife...

I looked into the muddy water and what could I see
I saw a lonely lonely face just lookin' back at me

Tears in her eyes and a prayer on her lips
And the glove of her lost love at her fingertips

Moody River more deadly than the vainest knife...

WHAT AM I LIVING FOR

(Fred Jay - Art Harris) « © '58 Tideland Music, BMI / Unichappell Music, BMI »
What am I living for if not for you
What am I living for if not for you
What am I living for if not for you
Oh nobody else nobody else will do

What am I longing for each lonely night
To feel your lips to mine to hold you tight
You'll be the only one my whole life through
Oh nobody else nobody else will do

I want you close to me that's all I know
I want you all the time because I love you so
What am I living for if not for you
What am I living for if not for you

What am I living for if not for you
Oh nobody else nobody else will do
Darling nobody else nobody else will do

PICK ME UP ON YOUR WAY DOWN

(Harlan Howard) « © '56 Tree Publishing, BMI »
You were mine for just a while now you're puttin' on the style
And you've never once looked back at your home across the track
You're the gossip of the town but my heart can still be found
Where you tossed it on the ground pick me up on your way down

Pick me up on your way down when you're blue and all alone
When their glamour starts to bore you come on back where you belong
You may be their pride and joy but they'll find another toy
Then they'll take away your crown pick me up on your way down
[ piano - steel ] They have changed your attitude made you haughty and so rude
Your new friends can take the blame underneath you're still the same
When you learned these things are true I'll be waiting here for you
As you tumble to the ground pick me up on your way down

Pick me up on your way down when you're blue and all alone...

SLOWLY

(Webb Pierce - Tommy Hill) « © '52 Cedarwood Publishing, BMI »
Slowly I'm falling more in love with you
Slowly you're winning a heart that can be true
Now I can't hide my feeling for it's so plain and true
Slowly I'm falling more in love with you

More and more I need you and want you by my side
More and more I love you as each day passes by
No need to hide my feelings for it's so plain and true
Slowly I'm falling more in love with you

Slowly I'm falling more in love with you...

WOODEN HEART

(Ben Weisman - Fred Wise - Kay Twomey) « © '60 Chappell & Co, ASCAP »
Can't you see I love you please don't break my heart in two
That's not hard to do cause I don't have a wooden heart
And if you say goodbye then I know that I would cry
Maybe I would die cause I don't have a wooden heart

There's no strings upon this love of mine
It was always you from the start
Treat me nice treat me good treat me like you really should
Cause I'm not made of wood and I don't have a wooden heart

Muss i denn muss i denn zum Stadtele hinaus
Stadtele hinaus und du mein Schatz bleibst hier
Muss i denn muss i denn zum Stadtele hinaus
Stdtele hinaus und du mein Schatz bleibst hier

There's no strings upon this love of mine
It was always you from the start
Sei mir gut sei mir gut sei mir wie du wirklich sollst
Wie du wirklich sollst cause I don't have a wooden heart

HEART OVER MIND

(Mel Tillis) « © '62 Cedarwood Publishing, BMI »
I love you so much that I can't leave you
Even though my mind tells me I should
But then you make me think that you still love me
And all my thoughts of leaving do no good

You've got me heart over mind worried all the time
Knowing you will always be the same
You'll keep hurting me I know but I still can't let you go
Cause my heart won't let my love for you change
[ steel ] Friends tell me they see you out with others
And in my heart I try hard to forget
Then you come home and tell me you still love me
And I still hope there's some chance for us yet

You've got me heart over mind worried all the time...

EVERYBODY'S SOMEBODY'S FOOL

(Howard Greenfield - Jack Keller) « © '59 Careers Music, BMI / Colgems Music, ASCAP »
The tears I've cried for you could fill an ocean
But you don't care how many tears I've cried
And though you only leave me on and hurt me
I couldn't bring myself to say goodbye

Cause ev'rybody's somebody's fool
Ev'rybody's somebody's baby
And there are no exceptions to the rule
Yes ev'rybody's somebody's fool

I told myself it's best that I forget you
Though I'm a fool at least I know the score
Yes darling I may try to do without you
It hurts but I come running back for more

Cause ev'rybody's somebody's fool...

Someday you'll find someone you really care for
And if her love should prove to be untrue
You'll know how much this heart of mine is breaking
You'll cry for her the way I cry for you

Cause ev'rybody's somebody's fool...

AM I THAT EASY TO FORGET

(Carl Belew - W.S. Stevenson) « © '59 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
You say you found somebody new
But that won't stop my loving you
I just can't let you walk away
Forget the love I have for you

Yes I could find somebody too
But I don't want no one but you
How can you leave without regret
Am I that easy to forget

Before you leave be sure you find
You want her love much more than mine
Cause I'll just say we've never met
If I'm that easy to forget
[ steel ] Yes I could find somebody too...

ONE MORE TIME

(Mel Tillis) « © '58 Cedarwood Publishing, BMI »
I wonder what the power is that you hold over me
I never get to love you long just your memory
And I make a vow each time you leave that this will draw the line
Then you come back and just like now I'm falling one more time

One more time my lips may kiss you
One more time my arms will miss you
But it won't be long until you're gone with a mem'ry left behind
And I just know that when you go I'll be lonely one more time
[ piano ] Your nearness makes me weaken and I give into you
And I'm doing all the things I said that I wouldn't do
And I make a vow each time you leave that this will draw the line
Then you come back and just like now I'm falling one more time

One more time my lips may kiss you...

HELLO WALLS

(Willie Nelson) « © '61 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Hello walls how'd things go for you today
Don't you miss him since he up and walked away
And I'll bet you dread to spend another lonely night with me
Lonely walls I'll keep you company

Hello window well I see that you're still here
Aren't you lonely since our darling disappeared
Well look here is that a teardrop in the corner of your pane
Now don't you try to tell me that it's rain

He went away and left us all alone the way he planned
Guess we'll have to learn to get along without him if we can

Hello ceilin' I'm gonna stare at you awhile
You know I can't sleep won't you bear with me awhile
We must all stick together or else I'll lose my mind
I've got a feelin' he'll be gone a long long time

YOUR OLD LOVE LETTERS

(Johnny Bond) « © '55 Red River Songs, BMI »
Today I burned your ole love letters
I burned them slowly one by one
Before I'd light the flame I'd read them
To try and find the wrongs I'd done

The first you wrote me was the sweetest
The last one broke my heart in two
And now alone I'm left here weeping
O're the ashes of your letters tied in blue
[ steel ] As I burned your ole love letters
I watched my dreams go up in smoke
I lived again those precious mem'ries
I heard each tender word you spoke

The first you wrote me was the sweetest
The last one said that we were through
Our love is there among the embers
In the ashes of your letters tied in blue

FALLEN STAR

(James Joiner) « © '57 Tree Publishing, BMI »
A star fell from heaven right into my arms
The brightest star I know I've ever seen
Then I found out that it was only you with all your charm
Who came into my life to fill a dream

A fallen star that's what you are
The twinkle in your eye came from the sky
You must have strayed from the Milky Way
A fallen star that's what you are
[ steel ] A fallen star that's what you are...
