PICK ME UP ON YOUR WAY DOWN
(Harlan Howard)
« © '56 Tree Publishing, BMI »
You were mine for just a while now you're puttin' on the style
And you've never once looked back at your home across the track
You're the gossip of the town but my heart can still be found
Where you tossed it on the ground pick me up on your way down
Pick me up on your way down when you're blue and all alone
When their glamour starts to bore you come on back where you belong
You may be their pride and joy but they'll find another toy
Then they'll take away your crown pick me up on your way down
[ fiddle - steel ]
They have changed your attitude made you haughty and so rude
Your new friends can take the blame underneath you're still the same
When you learned these things are true I'll be waiting here for you
As you tumble to the ground pick me up on your way down
Pick me up on your way down...

ALMOST PERSUADED
(Billy Sherrill - Glenn Sutton)

Last night all alone in a barroom I met a girl with a drink in her hand
She had ruby red lips coal black hair and eyes that would tempt any man
Then she came and sat down at my table and as she placed her soft hands in mine
I found myself wanting to kiss her for temptation was flowing like wine
And I was almost persuaded to strip myself of my pride
Almost persuaded to push my conscience aside
[ fiddle - steel ]
Then we danced and she whispered I need you
Take me away from here and be my man
And I looked into her eyes and I saw it
The reflection of my wedding band
And I was almost persuaded to let strange lips lead me on
Almost persuaded but your sweet love made me stop and go home

Thank you very much
Here's a song that I would like to do for you on this album
We hope you like the way we do it for you
This song is written about a little town in Oklahoma
The name of the town is Moffett Oklahoma
I don't know how many of you folks have been there or not
Yeah everbody knows where Moffett is
Everbody knows where Moffett is
Well great it's a great town
And I'd like to do a song kind of a tribute to Moffett Oklahoma
We hope you like here's the way it goes
4.
MOFFET OKLAHOMA
(Curtis Leach - Claude McBride)
« © '67 Saran Music, BMI »
I rolled into Moffet Oklahoma down by that Arkansas state line
I walked into a honky tonk and ordered a glass of California wine
He said we got Oklahoma blue and we gotArkansas homebrew
But no sir we don't dig that foreign kind
We got brandy rum and gin and moonshine for the men
We don't dig no California wine
A big cat stood up at a piano his beard was at least a foot long
I walked up to the bandstand and asked him to play me a hillbilly song
He said we play rock and we play pop we play blues and we play bop
But no sir we don't dig down on the farm
We play jazz and we play jerk and we watch those miniskirts
But we don't dig no hillbilly song
[ guitar - steel ]
I sat myself down at a poker table
The sign read dealers' choice I played awhile
When my deal came I flipped the first card over
Said spit in the ocean cucamonga style
He said we play draw and we play stud and I mean bud we play for blood
But no sir we don't dig no nothin' wild
You can buy one in a pinch stack the deck or check a cinch
But we don't dig no cucamonga style
I dropped a dollar on the blackjack table
And told the dealer let the face cards fall
I turned over eighteen and said hit me
Well he did and that's the last thing I recall
Well I guess you know the rest I've got my semi pointed West
Whine big diesel whine
And if I ever see old Moffet Oklahoma again it'll be west of the California line
They'll have to move it west of that California line

OK here's a song we'd like to do for you
We call this the brogan song we hope you like it
It's a good dance tune called My Shoes Keep Walking back to you
Here it is
5.
MY SHOES KEEP WALKING BACK TO YOU
(Bob Wills - Lee Ross)
« © '56 Chappell & Co, ASCAP / Unichappell Music, BMI »
I may say that I don't care hold up head up in the air
Even tell my friends I'm glad that you don't call
But when the day is through my heartache starts anew
And that's when I miss you most of all
And my arms keep reaching for you my eyes keep searching for you
My lips keep calling for you and my shoes keep walking back to you
[ steel - fiddle ]
No matter how much I pretend I wish I had you back again
For nothing else means half as much as you
My world just seemed to die the day you said goodbye
And I can't forget no matter how I try
And my arms keep reaching for you...
And my shoes keep walking back to you
**********
Thank you very much
Here's a song ladies and gentlemen we'd like to do for you
I especially want to do this in this album because we found this song here in Dallas
My good friend Dewey Groom who has the ballroom here the Longhorn Ballroom
I was down here oh 'bout a year ago I guess
And I heard this song here at Dewey's place
And I said I gotta record this because this is one of the cutest songs I've heard in a long time
And the song was real good to us and we'd like to do it for you tonight
It's called Don't Squeeze My Sharmon
Here it is
6.
DON'T SQUEEZE MY SHARMON
(Carl Belew - Van Givens)
« © '66 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Did you hear what happened last Saturday night
While dancin' and drinkin' we all got half tight
This sweet thing named Sharmon was dancin' with me
When up stepped her boy friend and he hollered at me
Please don't squeeze my Sharmon don't hold her so tight
You'd best keep my warning it's my last one tonight
She's soft and she's gentle and as sweet as can be
And if Sharmon needs squeezin' then leave back to me
[ steel ]
Along about midnight I was feeling no pain
And me and Miss Sharmon were dancin' again
Then Hank and big Harlan got into a fight
And I heard someone holler as out went the lights
Please don't squeeze my Sharmon...
And if Sharmon needs squeezin' then leave back to me

(Dallas Frazier)
« © '68 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Totay's the first day of honky tonk season
I'm gonna take in every honky tonk in town
I've got a license to drink for lots of reasons
And honky tonk season will be opened all year round
Although your clothes were never packed you left me a long time back
But kept on foolin' me by hangin' round
Up until your hungry eyes could find a better price
You found him last night and then you shot me down
Totay's the first day of honky tonk season...
[ steel - fiddle ]
Totay's the first day of honky tonk season...
And honky season will be opened all year round

SAN ANTONIO ROSE
(Bob Wills)
« © '40 Bourne Co, ASCAP »
Deep within my heart lies a melody a song of old San Antone
Where in dreams I lived with a memory beneath the stars all alone
It was there I found beside the Alamo enchantment strange as the blue up above
A moonlit pass that only she would know still hears my broken song of love
Moon and all your splendor knows only my heart
Call back my Rose Rose of San Antone
Lips so sweet and tender like petals falling apart
Speak once again of my love my own
Broken song empty words I know still live in my heart all alone
But that moonlit pass by the Alamo and Rose my Rose of San Antone
[ guitar - steel - fiddle ]
Moon and all your splendor...
And Rose my Rose of San Antone

You're the one rose that's left in my heart dear
I love you adore you I do
Each night through loveland we'd wander sweetheart
Telling love stories anew
Out of the blue skies a dark cloud came rolling
Breaking my poor heart in two
Don't leave me alone for I love only you
You're the one rose that's left in my heart
[ trumpet ]
Out of the blue skies a dark cloud came rolling...
You're the one rose that's left in my heart
