It was a year between Thompson's last album and this one, owing to the backlog of sides he had built up, but the results of the Thompson band's first stereo album were so encouraging that they were back in the studio to do more in stereo. The lost love songs are very solid.

TAKE A LOOK AT THIS BROKEN HEART OF MINE
(Hank Thompson)
« © '49 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
I didn't have to open up the bottle to pour out the glass of cherry wine
After all the things you've said if I want to look at red
I look at this broken heart of mine
You broke my heart and left it slowly pleading
A crimson stream is red as cherry wine
It could have been as sweet but you tossed it at your feet
Take a look at this broken heart of mine
[ fiddle ]
It's a mangled mess of many mornful moments
A symbol of a love that was so blind
It shows that when there's hate it can't be to reate
Take a look at this broken heart of mine
You leered at love then laughed and left it lying
To wither like a grape upon the vine
Like a garden choked with weeds like the flowers turned to seeds
Take a look at this broken heart of mine

SHE'S A GIRL WITHOUT ANY SWEETHEART
(Hank Thompson)
« © '49 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
She's a girl without any sweetheart and each night she sits there alone
This whole world she'd give for a new start but the chances she had now are gone
She used to have boys by the dozens but each one she left sad and blue
Now she's a girl without any sweetheart and it's all cause she couldn't be true
[ steel - fiddle ]
Each line in her face tells a story of each other heart that she broke
It's too late now to say that she's sorry for each unkind word that she spoke
The flower of you finally faded her old love she cannot renew
Now she's a girl without any sweetheart and it's all cause she couldn't be true

LOVE THIEF
(Hank Thompson - Mary Lou Powers)
« © '51 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
Well you stole my heart and that's a sin but in this case I hope you win
Love thief that's what you are
You took my heart and that's a crime but I don't care if it's just mine
Love thief that's what you are
I'm not complaining for can't you see that I'm so glad that you're after me
Both day and night you stole me blind hugs and kisses what a crime
Love thief that's what you are
[ guitar - fiddle - steel ]
You picked the lock with a burglars skill walked right in and took your fill
Love thief that's what you are
Now you took all and everything all we need is a wedding ring
Love thief that's what you are
I wasn't looking when you sneaked through to rob my soul and affection too
You took my heart and all I own but all along you should have known
Love thief I was stealing too love thief I was stealing too

SOFT LIPS
(Walt McCoy)
« © '49 Unichappell Music, BMI »
Soft lips that feel so divine soft lips pressed close to mine
The thrill of your kiss is heavenly blessed
Your tender caress I could never express
Soft lips I love you so soft lips don't ever go
My heart would break don't you see if you ever took from me
The thrill of your soft lips
[ steel - fiddle ]
Soft lips I love you so...

(Hank Thompson)
« © '49 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
Give a little take a little take a little kiss from me
Take a little give a little give a little kiss to me
You're the one the only one the girl I'm thinking of
Now don't you be afraid let's make a little trade
Let's give a little take a little love
Give a little take a little won't you give your heart to me
Take a little give a little I will give you mine you see
Don't be shy you know that I am true as the stars above
So come into my arms let's share each other's charms
Let's give a little take a little love
[ fiddle - guitar ]
Give a little take a little take...

HANGOVER HEART
(Hank Thompson - Pat J. Hagan)
« © '51 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
I've got a hangover heart from your kisses last night
My head is so heavy the tears blind my sight
You no longer love me you said we must pasrt
And all I have left is a hangover heart
Too much wine from the bottle makes you feel bad next day
But take another drink and that feeling goes away
But tell me my darling just how I should start
To take away the pain of this hangover heart
[ fiddle ]
No pills from the doctor no drugs from the store
Will help me forget the one I adore
I don't need a doctor no nurse with her charms
All I need is you for my hangover heart
I could go get more kisses from somebody new
But twll me my darling what good will it do
Come back to me baby let's make a new start
And take away the pain of this hangover heart

THOSE THINGS MONEY CAN'T BUY
(Vic McAlpin)
« © '51 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Now if I was a millionaire I'd be poor and I'll tell you why
Your eyes your lips and your hair those things money can't buy
I could own a ship on the sea or a plane that flies through the sky
But the kisses you once gave to me those things money can't buy
[ fiddle ]
When my journey on earth is through and I stand at the gate in the sky
Thinking of those days we once knew those things money can't buy
Those things money can't buy are treasures I'll cherrish till I die
Your arms your smile and your sigh those things money can't buy

FOOLER A FAKER
(Hank Thompson - Billy Gray)
« © '53 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
You're a fooler a faker a little heartbreaker
The slightest gal that I've ever known
Abuser a chooser but now you're the loser
Cause the heart that you broken was your own
I knew someday you'd meet someone who'd put you in your place
You started way out in the lead but finally lost the race
Your dream is a drama you used to be hot mama
I see your plans have hot fire in your face
[ guitar ]
You're a fooler a faker a little heartbreaker
I realize the things are gettin' rough
You're a tricker a tracker and a little homeracker
You've been dealing from the bottom long enough
You seem to take a great delight and making teardops fall
Until the picture you hung high came a tumbling from the wall
You're stander you're scheemer you're little lovesick dreamer
I knew someday you'd get your motor stalled
Don't be a fooler a faker you little heartbreaker

GYPSY AND THE TEA LEAVES
(Hank Thompson - Marvin Hipps)
« © '59 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
The Gypsy spread the tea leaves to find the reason why
You took my heart and broke it and told me all those lies
The sign of loving someone was seen there in the leaves
But why was it another why couldn't it be me
The tea leaves are just one way to show me I have lost
Someone near to me someone dear to me for her I'll pay the cost
The Gypsy broke my heart dear though I know she meant no harm
There were teardrops on the tea leaves because you're in another's arms
[ fiddle ]
The tea leaves are just one way...

ROCK IN THE OCEAN
(Hank Thompson)
« © '47 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
A rock down deep in the ocean means more than my heart means to you
I don't know what changed your notion what makes you do things like you do
You told me that there was no other but those words have proven untrue
There's no use to help me further I'm lost like a cloud in the blue
[ fiddle - steel - guitar ]
Like a wave that rise on the seashore for something that never can reach
My heart to you doesn't mean more than a small grain of sand on the beach
Like you toss a rock in the ocean to be lost like the words of my plea
That's how you discarded devotion just like a stone in the sea

HOW DO YOU FEEL
(Hank Thompson)
« © '50 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
How do you feel you were taken for granted
It doesn't seem real that your new love has gone
You always thought that you had him enchanted
Now how do you feel since your new love has gone
When I think of your smile oh what mem'ries it brings
When we walk down the aisle that was only last spring
Now the autumn leaves fall and the tears from me steal
I want you that's all how do you feel
[ steel ]
When I think of your smile...
