Thompson's second album employs the services of Merle Travis, who had hooked up with Thompson a few months earlier, and the lead guitar now has a wonderfully fluid quality, as graceful as it is swift. The album has more folk adaptations ("This Train"), a Bob Wills cover ("Big Beaver"), and some sentimental ballads ("The Little Rosewood Casket"), but the emphasis is mostly on romance, including slow pieces ("Gloria") and mid- and uptempo dance numbers ("Baby I Need Lovin'")

BABY I NEED LOVIN'
(Hank Thompson - Dorothy Thompson)
« © '54 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »

Baby I need lovin' in any kind of way
I need a warm sweet angel to let me have my way
Baby I need lovin' that's all that's on my mind
Tender arms above me to squeeze me all the time

Well your eyes are an indication then you gently squeeze my hand
It stops my circulation honey don't you understand
Baby I need lovin' there's just one thing to do
Get myself some lovin' from a pretty little girl like you
[ steel - piano - fiddle ]
Baby I need lovin' I know you'd fill the bill
My heart would beat with laughter you'd cure every ache and ill
Baby I'd like to take you in my arms right now
And gave you a lots of lovin' and I really know how

It would be a great sensational to pull you close to me
And feel your respiration as I hold you tenderly
Baby I need lovin' there's just one thing to do
Baby I need lovin' from a pretty little girl from a pretty little girl
From a pretty little girl like you

DUSTY SKIES
(Cindy Walker)
« © '54 Mesa Music, BMI »

Dusty skies I can't see nothing in sight
Good old Dan you'll have to guide me right
For we lose our way the cattle will stray
And we lose them all tonight
With all of the grass and water's gone
We'll have to keep the cattle moving on
Sand blowing I just can't breathe in this air
Thought it would soon be clear and fair
But the dust storms were bad they took all we had
I've got to be moving somewhere

I hate to leave the old ranch so bare
But I've got to be moving somewhere
So get along doggies we're moving off of this range
Never thought as how I'd make the change
But the blue skies have failed we're on our last trail
Underneath these dusty skies
These ain't tears in my eyes just sand from these dusty skies

WHERE MY SWEET BABY USED TO WALK
(Hank Thompson)
« © '52 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »

Every room seems empty now since she's gone away
The music of her laughter is a thing of yesterday
The patter of her footsteps when she'd meet me at the door
The smiling face I loved to see is gone forever more

I see a cozy love seat when we used to sit and talk
My tears fall on the carper where my sweet bay used to walk
[ fiddle ]
A dozen other women I might get to take her place
But none to touch her sweetness none would have her grace
When her footsteps pleaded from me it cut me like a sword
A goodbye told me she was gone my baby I adore
I see a cozy love seat...
My tears fall on the carper where my sweet bay used to walk

LITTLE ROSEWOOD CASKET
(Roy Acuff)
« © '54 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »

In a little Rosewood casket in the hall up on a stand
There's a package of old love letters written by a true love's hand
Won't you go and get them sister read them o'er to me tonight
I have tried so hard to read them but the tears they blind my sight
[ guitar ]
Place his letters and his pictures both together by my heart
With a little ring he gave me from my finger ne'er shall part
When I'm dead and in my casket and deep in my grave I lie
I want to be there close beside him when they lay me down to die

I'D DO IT AGAIN
(Hank Thompson)
« © '54 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »

They ask me if I'm sorry that I loved her so
Someone I couldn't ever have and had to let her go
They know I'm broken hearted they've watched me when I cry
They saw a man who bowed his head and once held it so high
Was it birth of the heartaches and the tears I've shed in vain
To build my mansions in the clouds then seen them fall like rain
I only know I loved her and knew I couldn't win
But if I had it to do over I'd do it again
[ fiddle ]
Some people thought me foolish and said our love was wrong
That end our world of make believe we couldn't carry on
But I wouldn't trade the treasure for things just as they were
For any precious moment that I spent with her
She made me feel so happy and she made the world seem right
The only time I really lived was when I held her tight
I could't help but love her I don't think it was a sin
And when I had it to do over I'd do it again

TOO IN LOVE
(Merle Travis - Ned Fairchild)
« © '54 Unichappell Music, BMI »

Let's not be too in love for we're not new at love
And we must realize it may last
Let's have it understood that darling if we should
We'll have to break the ties as in the past
Enjoy my company have lots of fun with me
For we know it could be a sad affair
Although I tell you this I know your tender kiss
Has made me too in love with you to care
[ fiddle - guitar ]
Let's not be too in love for we're not new at love
We know what it's like for hearts to cry
Then if we have to part it won't break our heart
We won't be too in love to say goodbye
Let me have dates with you and stay out late with you
And learn to laugh about this old affair
Although I tell you this I know your tender kiss
Has made me too in love with you to care

(Leon Rene)

Gloria it's not Marie it's Gloria
It's not Sherrie it's Gloria she's in your every dream
You tried to play a game of kiss and run away
But now you find it's not that way somehow you've changed the scene

Wasn't Magdalene your first love it was just hello goodbye
Wasn't Caroline your last love what a shame you made her cry
Oh what a fool you are you gave your heart to Glorie
You're not so smart cause Gloria is not in love with you
[ guitar + fiddle ]
Wasn't Magdalene your first love...

WHEN YOUR LOVE BURNS LOW
(Johnny Hatchcock - Weldon Allard)
« © '54 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »

Your love's a light you know that sets my heart aglow
But my heart grows cold when your love burns low
So let your love burn bright keep my heart's light aglow
For my heart grows cold when your love burns low

Like a candle that is burning in the snow
Love that's fickle makes a heart's light keep fluttering flickering low
So let your love burn bright keep my heart's light aglow
For my heart grows cold when your love burns low
[ fiddle ]
Like a candle that is burning...
