WELCOME TO MY WORLD

(Ray Winkler - John Hathcock) « © '61 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Welcome to my world won't you come on in
Miracles still happen now and then
Step into my heart leave your cares behind
Welcome to my world built with you in mind
Knock and the door will open seek and you will find

Ask and you'll be given the key to this world of mine
I'll be waiting here with my arms unfurled waiting just for you
Darling welcome to my world

GENTLE ON MY MIND

(John Hartford) « © '67 Ensign Music, BMI »
It's knowing that your door is always open and your path is free to walk
That makes me tend to leave my sleeping bag rolled up
And stashed behind your couch
And it's knowing I'm not shacked by forgotten words and bons
And the ink stains that have dried upon some line
That keeps you on the back roads by the rivers of my mem'ry
Keeps you ever gentle on my mind

It's not clinging to the rocks and I'd be planted on their columns now that binds me
Or because that somebody said because they thought we fit together walking
And it's knowin' that the world will not be cursing or forgiving
When I walk along some railroad track and find
That you're movin' on the back roads by the rivers of my mem'ry
And for hours you're just gentle on my mind

Though the wheet fields and the clothes lines
And the junk yards and the highways come between us
And some other woman's cryin' to her mother cause she turned and I was gone
I still might run in silence tears of joy might stain my face
And a summer sun might burn me till I'm blind
But not to where I cannot see you walkin' on the back roads
By the rivers flowing gentle on my mind

I dipped my cup of soap back from a gurgling crackling caltron in some train yard
My beard a roughen coal pile and a dirty hat pulled low across my face
Through cupped hands round a tin can I pretend to hold you to my breast and find
That you're waving from the back roads by the rivers of my mem'ry
Ever smiling ever gentle on my mind

THAT'S ALL THAT MATTERS

(Hank Cochran) « © '63 Tree Publishing, BMI »
I know I'm not your first love they're just a past memory
For I'm the one that's got you now and that's all that matters to me
I know other arms have held you but I'm not jealous of these
For mine are the arms that hold you now and that's all that matters to me
I came alive when you came along you brought life back to me
And I don't care what's in your past you're as far as far as I can see
I know other lips have kissed you and I know you've been thrilled and pleased
But mine are the lips that kiss you now and that's all that matters to me
And that's all that matters to me

MY CAN DO CAN'T KEEP UP WITH MY WANT TO

(Nat Stuckey) « © '67 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Well it's sad but true and some day it'll happen to you
When your can do can't keep up with your want to

I ain't never been much of a lover and it never really bothered me none
With the whole world full of adorable women I figured I could catch me one
But lately I've got a problem and I don't know what to do
You see my can do can't keep up with my want to

Well my want to wants me to do everything I used to do
But my can do can't keep up with your want to
[ guitar ] I met a Dolly in a roadside tavern of the time and the place was right
We had a table in the corner where the lights were low
And the band was picking out of sight
We were dancing to a fast little ditty but before I got half through
I found my can do can't keep up with my want to

Well my want to wants me to...
Well it's sad but true...

TOGETHER AGAIN

(Buck Owens) « © '63 Central Songs, BMI »
Together again all my tears have stopped falling
The long lonely nights are now at an end
The key to my heart you hold in your hand
And nothing else matters we're together again
[ guitar - steel ] Together again all my grey skies are gone
You're back in my arms and that's where you belong
The love that I knew is living again
And nothing else matters we're together again
And nothing else matters now we're together again

WITH PEN IN HAND

(Bobby Goldsboro) « © '68 Detail Music, BMI »
With pen in hand you signed your name today at five I'll be on that train
And you'll be free and I will be alone so alone
If you think we can't find the love we once knew
If you think I can make everything up to you
Then I'll be gone and you'll be on your own you'll be on your own

Can you take good care of Johnny can you take him to school everyday
Can you teach him how to catch a fish and keep all those bullys away hear what I say
Can you teach him how to whistle a tune
Can you tell him about the Man in the Moon
If you can do these things then maybe he won't miss me maybe he won't miss me

And tonight as you lay in that big lonely bed
Can you look at the pillow where I laid my head
With your heart on fire will you have no desire to kiss me and to hold me
And if you can forget the good times we had
If you think that the good times don't outweigh the bad
Then sign your name and I'll be on my way I'll be on my way hmm hmm

SON OF HICKORY HOLLER'S TRAMP

(Dallas Frazier) « © '67 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Oh the path was deep and wide from footsteps leading to our cabin
And above the door there burned a scarlet lamp
And late at night a hand would knock and there would stand a stranger
I'm the son of Hickory Holler's tramp

Oh the corn was dry the weeds were high when papa took the drinking
He and Lucy Walker they took up and ran away
Mama cried a tear and then she promised fourteen children
I swear you'll never see a hungry day

When mama sacrificed her pride the neighbors started talkin'
But I was much too young to understand the things they said
The thing that mattered most of all was mama's chicken dumplings
And the goodnight kiss before we went to bed

Oh the path was deep and wide...
[ guitar ] When papa left then destitution came upon our family
Not one neighbor volunteered to lend a helping hand
So let them gossip all they want she loved us and she raised us
The proof is standing here the full grown man

Last summer mama passed away and left the ones who loved her
Each and every one is more than grateful for their birth
Each Sunday she receives the fresh bouquet of fourteen roses
And the card that reads the greatest mom on earth

Oh the path was deep and wide...
Yes I'm the son of Hickory Holler's tramp

BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX

(Jim Webb) « © '67 Sosaha Music, BMI / Jonathan Three Music, BMI »
By the time I get to Phoenix she'll be rising
She'll find the note I left hanging on her door
She'll laugh when she reads the part that says I'm leaving
Cause I've left that girl so many times before

By the time I reach Albuquerque she'll be working
She'll probably stop at lounch and give me a call
But she'll just hear that phone keep on ringing off the wall that's all

By the time I reach Oklahoma she'll be sleeping
She'll turn softly and call my name out low
She'll cry just to think I'd really leave her
But time and time I've tried to tell her so she just didn't know
I would really go go

OH LONESOME ME

(Don Gibson) « © '58 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Everybody's going out and having fun
I'm just a fool for staying home and having none
I can't get over how she set set me free oh lonesome me
Well a bad mistake I'm making by just hanging round
I know that I should have some fun and paint the town
But a lovesick fool is blind and just can't see oh lonesome me

Well I'll bet she's not like me she's out and fancy free
She's flirtin' with the boys with all her charms
Well I still love her so and baddy don't you know
I'd welcome her right back here in my arms
Well there's gotta be something I can do to lose these blues
Go out and look around and find me something new
I've thought of everything from A to Z oh lonesome me
[ guitar ] Well I'll bet she's not like me...

SHE THINKS I STILL CARE

(Dickey Lee - Steve Duffy) « © '62 Glad Music, BMI / Pappy Daily Music, BMI / Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
Just because I asked a friend about her just because I spoke her name somewhere
Just because I rang her number by mistake today she thinks I still care

Just because I haunt the same old places
Where the mem'ry of her lingers everywhere
Just because I saw her then I went all to pieces she thinks I still care

But if she's happy thinking I still need her then let that silly notion bring her cheer
But how could she ever be so foolish where would she get such an idea

Just because I haunt the same old places
Where the mem'ry of her lingers everywhere
Just bacause I saw her then went all to pieces she thinks I still care
She thinks I still care
