PICTURES
(Don Reid - Lew DeWitt)

Here's the picture that we took in Cincinnati
The time we saw that big leauge baseball game
Here's the picture that we took in Printer's Alley
Down in Nashville when we met old what's his name
Here's one of me in my old '60 Chevy
The one that let us down in Baltimore
Here's the best one that I've ever seen of Betty
And can you believe the dresses that you wore
Here's the picture that we took at graduation
I'm so glad you talked me out of quittin' school
Here I am when I worked at the filling station
And here's one of Ernie actin' like a fool
Here's the last one that we ever took of daddy
We tried hard to make him smile but he never did
And here's one I caught of you when you weren't ready
And here I am when I was just a kid
Oh sweetheart it's so much fun to be reminded
Of how we used to look and what we used to do
And each time we make a mem'ry I'm reminded
I can't picture me with no one else but you
Here's a pose of you that looked so sweet and lovely
That's the way I pictured you right from the start
And here's a picture of you being close beside me
That's the picture that I carry in my heart
Oh sweetheart it's so much fun...

MOMENTS TO REMEMBER
(Robert Allen - Al Stillman)
« © '58 Charlie Deitcher Productions, ASCAP / Larry Spier Inc, ASCAP »
The New Year's Eve we did the town
The day we tore the goal post down
We'll have these moments to remember
The quiet walks the noisy fun
The ballroom prize we almost won
We'll have these moments to remember
Though summer turns to winter and the present disappears
The laughter we were glad to share will echo through the years
Though other nights and other days
May find us gone our separate ways
We'll have these moments to remember
[ strings ]
We'll have these moments to remember

SECOND THOUGHTS
(Don Reid - Harold Reid)
« © '71 House Of Cash, BMI »
It was in the high school yearbook dated May of '55
We were voted the couple most likely to survive
Even teachers never doubted we were more than just friends
But your mama has some second thoughts by friends
When you went off to nursing school I kept my job in town
To show your folks that I was old enough to settle down
When you came home for hollydays we were happy without sin
But your mama has some second thoughts again
Does your mama know I'm rich and happy well almost that is
Does she ever say that maybe she was wrong
All she ever really wanted was to have the best in you
And that's all I ever really wanted to
Thanks to her she made me want to prove I could succeed
But thanks to her I'll never have the one thing that I need
And if she reads the papers and remembers who I am
She's prob'ly having second thoughts again
Does your mama know I'm rich and happy...
That's all I ever really wanted to

JUST SOMEONE I USED TO KNOW
(Jack Clement)
« © '62 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
There's a picture that I carry one we made some time ago
When they ask who's in the picture with me
I say just someone I used to know
Just a girl I used to spend some time with just a flame from long ago
I don't tell them of the nights I've cried without you
I say just someone I used to know
[ fiddle ]
Just a girl I used to run around with just a spark that's lost its glow
I don't tell them how lost I am without you
I say just someone I used to know
I say just someone I used to know
I say just someone I used to know

I WONDER HOW THE OLD FOLKS ARE AT HOME
(F.W. Vandersloot - Herbert S. Lambert)
« © '57 Jerry Vogel Music, ASCAP »
I wonder how the old folks are at home
I wonder if they miss me while I roam
I wonder if they pray for the boy who went away
And left his dear old parents all alone
You could hear the cattle lowin' in the lane
You could almost see the fields of blue grass green
You could almost hear them cry as they kiss their boy goodbye
I wonder how the old folks are at home
[ banjo ]
Just a village and a homestead on the farm
And a mother's love to keep you from all harm
A mother's love so true a sweetheart that loves you
Just a village and a homestead on the farm
You could hear the cattle lowin'...
I wonder how the old folks are at home

THINGS
(Lew DeWitt)
« © '71 House Of Cash, BMI »
Things just ain't the way they used to be
Things I thought I remembered well look different now to me
For adult eyes can sure surprise a childhood memory
No things just ain't the way they used to be
The windows at the school don't seem as tall
As I remember neither do the fountains in the hall
And that fifth grade teacher really wasn't terrible at all
No things just ain't the way they used to be
The playground doesn't seem as big somehow
And I could put a ball right through the office window now
And I know now why chewing gum in school was not allowed
No things just ain't the way they used to be
Butch Carter used to keep us kids afraid
He'd bust the lip of any kid who dared get in his way
I wish old Butch was standing here in front of me today
Cause things just ain't the way they used to be
I wish I could have grown into the man
That I pictured as a child and filled those childhood plans
I'd do it right if only I could live my life again
But things just ain't the way they used to be
Forbidden alleys unfamiliar streets
Places mama told me I should never set my feet
Well today I know exactly where those streets and alleys lead
Cause things just ain't the way they used to be
Buck Painter is no longer unemployed
Uncle Dick has settled down with age and rarely gets annoyed
And now I hear Butch Carter's gone to working for the Lord
No things just ain't the way they used to be
No things just ain't the way they used to be

YOU CAN'T GO HOME
(Don Reid)
« © '71 House Of Cash, BMI »
Roy taught me how to play baseball and do the foxtrot on the harp
Taught me how to swim and fish and tell the difference between bass and carp
Taught me how to snap my fingers whistle through my teeth oh Uncle Roy
He sure took time to make times good for a little pesty half grown boy
Aunt Katheleen would wash my clothes and blow my nose whenever nature called
Darn my socks and damn the pox but kept me out of school from fall to fall
Gave me movie money though I never did my chores the way I should
To a nasty little nephew Katheleen you sure made aunthood awful good
And Freddy used to laughed to me whenever something valuable got broke
He taught me how to climb a tree about birds and bees and taught me how to smoke
He took me on my first date I was scared to death but he said you'll do fine
Good buddy you're my cousin but you seem more like a brother of mine
But you can't go home to the good times you can't go home anymore
Roy's all crippled up now Katheleen can hardly see
Freddy's off somewhere to fight a war
And you can't go home to the good times you can't go home anymore
Everything has changed and who were there to blame
Gone far that you just can't go home
[ strings ]
Looking back I'd say I had the best childhood that money just can't buy
And I owe it all to free good folks who took me in when mom began to die
They always told me son just do what's right and you'll be proud just wait and see
Well Roy and Katheleen I'm only proud that you're the ones who's proud of me
But you can't go home to the good times you can't go home anymore
Roy's rheumatism Katheleen's cataract and Freddy's fightin' someone else's war

TENDER YEARS
(Darrell Edwards)
« © '61 Fort Knox Music, BMI / Trio Music, BMI »
You keep saying you love him I believe that it's true
And it just doesn't matter how much I love you
But in time your'll understand dear when you shed a tear
Then you'll know you were living in your tender years
In your eyes there's a love light that shines just for him
But how long will it stay there will that love light grow dim
You can just see the happiness you can't see the tears
It's true cause you're living in your tender years
If I can't be your first love I'll wait and be your last
I'll be somewhere in your future to help you forget your past
And you'll know that I love you with the love that's sincere
Cause I'll wait till you're through living in your tender years
And you'll know that I love you with the love that's sincere
Cause I'll wait till you're through living in your tender years

MAKING MEMORIES
(Don Reid - Harold Reid)
« © '71 House Of Cash, BMI »
Memories memories memories
The county fair a Teddy Bear that football game when I was lame
The formal dance I tore my pants memories memories memories
A midnight swim you sure looked trim the class night gown you brought 'em down
That old Chevrolet it's had its day memories memories memories
Making memories in everything we do
Making memories with you for me for you
Looking back all the bad times get lost among the sand
So we'll keep making all the memories we can
Now every cent is always spent on our little boys and their little toys
And our little home and our big loan memories memories memories
The late late shows on TV their the ones that we used to see
Back when we you and me memories memories memories
Making memories in everything we do...
Memories memories memories

FADED LOVE
(Bob Wills - John Wills)
« © '51 Anne Rachel Music, ASCAP »
As I look at the letter that you wrote to me
It's you that I am thinking of
As I read the lines that to me were so sweet
I remember our faded love
I miss you darling more and more every day
As heaven would miss the stars above
With every heartbeat I still think of you
And remember our faded love
As I think of the past and all the pleasures we had
As I watch the mating of the dove
It was in the springtime that you said goodbye
I remember our faded love
I miss you darling more and more every day...
And remember our faded love

WHEN YOU AND I WERE YOUNG MAGGIE
(George Johnson - James A. Butterfield)
« © '35 Edward B Marks Music, BMI / Screen Gems Music, BMI »
I wander today to the hill Maggie to watch the scene below
The creek and the creeking old mill Maggie as we used to long long ago
The green grove is gone from the hill Maggie where first the daisies sprung
That creeking old mill is still Maggie since you and I were young
Oh they say that m feeble with age Maggie my steps are my slower that then
My face is a well written page Maggie and time all alone was the pen
They say we have our different time Maggie as they hear our songs that we sung
But to me you're as fair as you were Maggie when you and I were young
When you and I were young
