Although it doesn't quite match the peaks of All Because of You, Daryle Singletary's third album, Ain't It the Truth, is a solid neo-traditional country album. Singletary's performances are becoming more assured all the time, as is his songwriting. Nevertheless, he relies more on outside writers than his own songs. As a result, the record is arguably his most consistent yet, even if it doesn't quite have the spark of his earlier records.

NOTE
(Buck Moore - Michelle Ray)
« © '84 Sixteen Stars Music, BMI »
The note was short but Lord so strong it simply said I can't go on
And live a lie with someone I don't love
She couldn't tell me face to face oh but how my world was changed
By the hand that held the pen
That wrote the words that broke the heart
Of the one the only one that really loves her
My tears fell down like falling rain but they can't wash away the pain
How will I go to sleep without her in my arms
She never meant to break my heart but how my world has torn apart
By the hand that held the pen
That wrote the words that broke the heart
Of the one the only one that really loves her
With one stroke of the pen she wrote off all my dreams
Erasing all those plans we've made together
There's no one that I can blame oh but how my world was changed
By the hand that held the pen
That wrote the words that broke the heart
Of the one the only one that really loves her
Of the one the only one that really loves her

LOVE OR THE LACK OF
(Mary Ann Kennedy - Rich Waland)
« © '98 Flying Pug Music, ASCAP / Illegal Songs, BMI »
There's a farmer down the road lives in a shack
Give you the shirt right off his back
He's always smilin' like he has it all
A Wall Street broker a real kingpin
Died all alone didn't have a friend
At the funeral not a soul came to call
There's dirt poor happy and filthy rich sad
Money's no measure for what we have
We write off the loss and count what's gained
Balance the credit against the blame
Just one thing in this old world adds up
It all comes down to love or the lack of
They sold the mansion on the hill split the dividends
Now he'll see the kids every other weekend
They were missin' something they couldn't buy
An old couple cross town in a trailer park
Countin' all the blessings shared in their hearts
They'll see heaven side by side
Life is on short haul in the long run
You can't call it livin' if it's without love
We write off the loss...
[ guitar - fiddle ]
We write off the loss...
It all comes down all comes down to love or the lack of
It all comes down to love or the lack of

THAT'S WHERE YOU'RE WRONG
(Jeff Crossan)
« © '98 Honest To Goodness Music, BMI »
You said what you had to say would come as a surprise
You were right honey you were right
You told me nothing I could do was gonna change your mind
I knew then you'd be right again
But when you said we were through I knew that wasn't true
That's where you're wrong that's where you're wrong
Deep down inside love lingers on
It won't let go it's still too strong
That's where you're wrong
I tell myself I have to learn to leave the past behind
Looking back I'm sure of that
I say I'd be much better off without you on my mind
Girl it's true but what can I do
When I think these thoughts will end my heart says think again
That's where you're wrong...
Deep down inside love lingers on it won't let go it's still too strong
Stop and consider my heart if you think you're gone
That's where you're wrong (that's where you're wrong)
That's where you're wrong

THING CALLED LOVE
(Jerry Reed Hubbard)
« © '68 Vector Music, BMI / Sixteen Stars Music, BMI »
Six foot six he stood on the ground
Weighed two hundred and thirty five pounds
But I saw that giant of a man brought down to his knees by love
He was the kind of man that would gamble on luck
Look you in the eye and never back up
But I saw him cryin' like a little whipped pup because of love
You can't see it with your eyes hold it in your hand
But like the wind that covers our land
Strong enough to rule the heart of any man this thing called love
It can lift you up it can let you down take your world turn it all around
Ever since time nothing's ever been found stronger than love
[ guitar ]
Most men are like me they struggle in doubt
Trouble their minds day in and day out
Too busy with livin' to worry about a thing called love
But when I see a mother's tenderness
As she holds her young close to her brest
I thank God that this world's been blessed with a word called love
You can't see it with your eyes...
Ever since time nothing's ever been found stronger than love

I'D LIVE FOR YOU
(Dewayne Blackwell)
« © '98 Old Rhymin Music, BMI »
I won't climb the highest mountain I won't swim the deep blue sea
I won't brave a raging river I'm no hero on TV
Well there are other ways to prove my love if you're not too choosy
I'd swim the deep blue swimming pool climb the highest barroom stool
Brave the raging waters of a hot tub or Jacuzzi
Honey I'd live for you that'd be a lot more fun
Work and give to you vacations in the sun
No I wouldn't die for love like the poets say they'd do
I love you so much honey I'd live for you
So put down that romance novel I'm no sheik upon a steed
It might make you think this working man isn't what you need
I won't cross the desert sands for you to prove my love is blazing
But I'd crawl on my hands and knees across a king size bed for these
Two lips of yours that always please me isn't love amazing
Honey I'd live for you...
[ guitar ]
I'd swim the deep blue swimming pool climb the highest barroom stool
Brave the raging waters of a hot tub or Jacuzzi
Honey I'd live for you...
No I wouldn't die for love like the poets say they'd do
I love you so much honey (honey honey) I'd live for you

MIRACLE IN THE MAKING
(Joe Doyle - Josh Kear)
« © '98 BMG Songs, ASCAP »
So I'm told it happens every day
Common as a wedding in the month of May
It's something my heart won't soon forget
There was nothing ordinary in that moment we met
We may not have seen the sea parted
We may not have tasted water turned to wine
And it may not appear all that earth shaking
Oh but I believe we could be a miracle in the making
One less turn one more twist of fate
We might have arrived here to early too late
Some call it chance I say destiny
And when I hold you in my arms that's all the proof I need
We may not have seen the sea parted...
They say the age of miracles has long since passed
Well how could that be we found love at last
[ fiddle - dobro ]
I know that it may not appear all that earth shaking
Oh but I believe we could be a miracle in the making
Oh I believe (I believe) in miracles

MY BABY'S LOVIN'
(Delbert McClinton - Michael Lunn)
« © '98 Lew Bob Songs, BMI / WB Music, ASCAP »
I got a woman that's in love with me
She gives me lovin' like it's supposed to be
She's wide open she don't hold back
She's gonna get me with a heart attack
If it kills me I don't mind I'll be smilin' all the while I'm dyin'
My baby's lovin' is oh so fine my baby's lovin' is oh so fine
I love the way she can't let me be
You know she starts kissin' talkin' sweet to me
She's walkin' around in them high heel shoes
She got me doin' anythin' that she wants me to
And if it kills me I don't mind I'll be smilin' all the while I'm dyin'
My baby's lovin' is oh so fine my baby's lovin' is oh so fine
My baby's lovin' is oh so fine
Now the way she dresses drives me wild my baby's got a unique style
She got me eatin' from the palm of her hand she makes me feel how
(Does she make you feel)
She makes me feel like a full grown man
[ guitar ]
And if it kills me I don't mind I'll be smilin' all the while I'm dyin'
I got a woman that's in love with me...
If it kills me I don't mind...

YOU AIN'T HEARD NOTHIN' YET
(Tony Haselden - Tim Mensy)
« © '98 Ashwords Music, BMI / Heart Of A Child Music, ASCAP »
On a park bench the old man sat and stared into yesterday
I sat down beside him said thank God for this quiet place
Between the wife and the kids the TV and the phone
Seems there's something always going on
He said son if you think this is quiet you should follow me home
You ain't heard nothin' yet
Till you've lived in a house by yourself
When silence is all you've got left
In the rooms where your babies have slept
So don't wish for something you will regret
Cause you ain't heard nothin' yet
The old man kept talkin' paintin' pictures from his memories
Did he drag out his past for himself or was it for me
His eyes came alive he spoke of dancing with his wife
And playing ball with his two little boys
He said son what I remember as music you're calling noise
You ain't heard nothin' yet...
We'll all rest in peace on that you can bet
Oh you ain't heard nothin' yet

REAL DEAL
(Roger Springer - Robert Arthur - Daryle Singletary)
« © '98 Blackwood Music, BMI »
Seems like it's hard to find two people these days
Whose hearts have genuinely got what it takes
To stay together whenever times get tough
First sign of any little problems they have
You'll find 'em both off with somebody else
You'll never find them with either one of us
We've got the real deal
You and me together that's the real deal
Hey if this don't last forever darling nothing will
Cause when it comes to love we got the real deal
Even though you wear an imitation rock on your hand
That matches my certified gold plated band
We've got one thing one thing that money can't buy
I'm not talking bout that replica of Vincent VanGogh
That's hanging in the hallway of our modular home
I ain't bragging but girl it ain't no lie
We've got the real deal...
[ guitar - fiddle - piano - steel ]
We've got the real deal...
If this don't last forever darling nothing will
Cause when it comes to love we got the real deal

AIN'T IT THE TRUTH
(John Hobbs - Doug Johnson - Daryle Singletary)
« © '98 Bridge Building Music, BMI »
Born in this country red white and blue
From church pews to bar stools it's always been true
From up in the mountains way back in the pines
From Crazy to Sweet Dreams to Yesterday's Wine
All of my heroes from Lefty to Jones
Some are still with us and some have gone home
Oh precious are the memories of the music they made
Forever living not held by the grave
Forever and Always Chiseled in Stone
Like honky tonk prophets their words linger on
If you don't believe me if you need some proof
Ask any old jukebox hey ain't it the truth
[ fiddle ]
Honest and simple never ashamed
Lord help us Jesus never to change
One day I'll see Lefty when my work is through
He'll say son you were country oh ain't it the truth
Forever and Always Chiseled in Stone...
Ask any old jukebox hey ain't it the truth
