With this fabulous record that brought joy and fun to all avid listeners of country music, LeAnn Rimes arrived just in the nick of time, when country needed it most, amidst all the regulars of the scene such as Garth Brooks, Holly Dunn, etc. The record is a delightful free-for-all of sassy pick-me-up country that spells GOLD in many sorts of ways. Of course, the sleeper hit is "Blue," Rimes' radio-friendly airplay single that landed her a Grammy at the tender young age of 15. "Blue" — both the song and the record as a whole — certainly should and does affect listeners in a charismatic and lighthearted way. At the time, since she was still a teen herself, this collection of songs meant so much to Rimes and her adoring fans; it inspired thousands of teens then and continues to inspire them through to this day. Perhaps people of any age or style of interest will feel youthful again after a good listen and a half. This record of songs written by the best songwriters in country music served as a stepping stone for Rimes, and was deservedly a breakthrough album for the country music scene.

BLUE
(Bill Mack)

Blue oh so lonesome for you why can't you be blue over me
Blue oh so lonesome for you tears fill my eyes till I can't see

Three o'clock in the morning here am I
Sittin' here so lonely so lonesome I could cry
Blue oh so lonesome for you why can't you be blue over me
[ steel - guitar ]
Now that it's over I've realized
Those sweet words you whispered were nothing but lies
Blue oh some lonesome for you why can't you be blue over me
Why can't you be blue over me

Hurt me why in the world did you hurt me
Just when I thought I'd found someone to trust
You took away your love and hurt me I still can't believe you hurt me
Just when I thought it was safe to come in
You let me want you and need you and then
You left me like a child in the rain
Now I'm mending myself of the pain oh you hurt me
[ guitar - steel ]
Yes you left me like a child in the rain now I'm lost in an ocean of pain
Oh you hurt me I fell in love and it hurt me
Can't you imagine how I'm feeling now oh will you ever know how you hurt me

ONE WAY TICKET (BECAUSE I CAN)
(Judy Rodman - Keith Hinton)
« © '96 Warner-Tamerlane Publishing, BMI / Global Nomad Music, ASCAP / WB Music, ASCAP »

Standing on the border looking out into the great unknown
I can feel my heart beatin' faster as I step out on my own
There's a new horizon and the promise of favorable wind
I'm headin' out tonight travelin' light I'm gonna start all over again

And buy a one way ticket on a west bound train see how far I can go because I can
I'm gonna go out dancin' in the pouring rain and talk to someone I don't know
Cause I can I will face the world around me
Knowin' that I'm strong enough to let you go
And I will fall in love again because I can

Gonna climb the mountain and look the eagle in the eye
I won't let fear clip my wings and tell me how high I can fly
How could I have ever believed that love had to be so blind
When freedom was waitin' down at the station
All I had to do was make up my mind

Gonna buy a one way ticket...

Well I have walked through the fire and crawled on my knees
Through the valley of the shadow of doubt
Then the truth came shinin' like a light on me and now I can see my way out

I'm gonna buy a one way ticket...
I'm gonna buy a one way ticket on a west bound train
Gonna have my breakfest with some pink champagne
I'm gonna sail the ocean I'm gonna spread my wings
I'm gonna climb that mountain gonna do everything

MY BABY
(Deborah Allen)
« © '94 Mike Curb Music, BMI / Posey Publishing, BMI »

My baby gives me satisfaction my baby gives me all his love
Let's me know I'm his main attraction no one else is gonna feel his touch
I love the way he drives me crazy from now on I'm gonna love my baby

My baby is a full time lover my baby is a full grown man
Makes me feel like a natural woman I know he's the only one who can
Rock my world and I don't mean maybe from now on I'm gonna love my baby

No one can take me away from my baby I'm holding on to heaven in his arms
[ steel + guitar ]
No one can take me away from my baby I'm holding on to heaven in his arms
My baby is a rolling thunder my baby is a southbound train
His love is like a long hot summer calms me down like a cool cool rain
His sweet wonderful ways amaze me it's no wonder why I love my baby
I love my baby I love my baby I love my baby

HONESTLY
(Joe Johnston - Christi Dannemiller)
« © '96 Mike Curb Music, BMI / Neon Sky Music, ASCAP »

Don't act like I don't know what I'm talking about
Don't forget that I'm the one who knows you inside out
You can't even answer when I ask you what's wrong
Just how much longer can the silence go on

Honestly honestly there's trouble in your heart that you can't hide from me
Talk to me cause I can see your love ain't what it used to be
If I mean anything to you don't be afraid to turn me loose
I'm strong enough to face the truth honestly

Just say we stand a chance and you're willing to try
Or say there's nothing left for you and tell me goodbye
We both know love has got to be an open door
And if it's time for you to fly I can't hold you any more

Oh honestly honestly...
[ guitar ]
If I mean anything to you...

LIGHT IN YOUR EYES
(Dan Tyler)
« © '96 Mota Music, ASCAP »

Life can take your dreams and turn them upside down
Friends will talk about you when you're not around
Reality can really cut you down to size
But don't ever lose that light in your eyes
Don't ever lose that light in your eyes

People make you promises they'll never keep
Soon you'll know why people say talk is cheap
Life resembles one big compromise
But don't ever lose that light in your eyes
Don't ever lose that light in your eyes

Keep on shining keep on smiling don't lose faith and don't lose heart
When you're crying just keep trying to remind yourself you're a shining star
Yes you are
[ guitar ]
Somewhere down the line you'll face the judgement day
When the angels look at you what will you say
They've got a way of knowin' who qualifies
Just let 'em see that light in your eyes
Don't ever lose that light in your eyes

Keep on shining keep on smiling...
Don't ever lose that light in your eyes
(Don't ever lose) that light in your eyes

TALK TO ME
(Ron Grimes - Le Ann Rimes - Jon Rutherford)

Timeless Creations Music, BMI / Harris-Gordon Music, ASCAP / Music Sales, ASCAP »

I can tell you've been crying on the inside
I can see right through your eyes what you're tryin' to hide
You've got a real big wall covering up what you're feeling for me
Well come on baby work it on out and talk to me

Baby I'm here ready to hear what you're not saying
I can hear your heartbeat pounding so don't keep me waiting
Come on and talk to me come on and talk to me

I can tell you've been hurt real bad before
But you're face to face with love knocking at your door
All you need is a little trust to set you free
Well here I am don't hold back baby talk to me

Baby I'm here ready to hear...
Well I've cried the tears I've felt the pain that you hold inside
This true love is strong enough to survive come on and talk to me
[ guitar - fiddle ]
Baby I'm here ready to hear...

I'LL GET EVEN WITH YOU
(Coweta House)
« © '96 17th Avenue Music, ASCAP »

For all the nights you held me close warmed my heart when it was cold
When I was giving up you gave me love
From some dark alley in my mind you made a hidden dream unwind
Turned my stumbling blocks to stepping stones

I'll get even with you for the hard times you helped me through
I'll give it back to you all the love you've given me
For the rest of my life everyday and every night
If it's the last thing I'll ever do I'll get even with you

When the odds were against me and I was lost with no will to go on
You wrapped your loving arms around my heart
Took my losin' hand and led me home

I'll get even with you...

CATTLE CALL
(Tex Owens)
« © '43 Forster Music, ASCAP

[ with Eddy Arnold ]

The cattles're prowling the coyotes're howling out with the doggies bawl
Where spurs are jingling a cowboy is singing this lonesome cattle call

He rides in the sun till his day's work is done and he rounds up the cattle each fall
Singing this cattle call
[ piano ]
For hours he will ride on the range far and wide
When the night wind blows up a squall
His heart is a feather in all kinds of weather he sings his cattle call

He's brown as a berry from ridin' the prairie and he sings with an old western drawl
Singing this cattle call

GOOD LOOKIN' MAN
(Joyce Harrison)
« © '96 House Of Penny, ASCAP »

I've been catchin' a glance do you like what you see
Even across the room your eyes been talkin' to me
Easy to tell you've turned some heads in your day
Hopin' you'll choose the next slow dance to walk my way

Nothin' like a good lookin' good lookin' man
More bout you than meets the eye I wanna know first hand
Baby I've got this strong feelin' strong as a woman can
I'm lookin' into the face of love and it's a good lookin' man

How did you get sweet fit right in each of those arms
Talkin' as if we're all alone workin' your charm
I'm likin' that edgy temper you try not to show
Notice the shyness in the way you smile real slow

Nothin' like a good lookin'...

Come a little closer closer yet
The longer and longer I'm with you the better and better you get
[ guitar ]
Nothin' like a good lookin'...
Come a little closer closer yet yeah closer yet closer yet

FADE TO BLUE
(Jim Allison - Lang Scott - Anne Reeves)
« © '96 Jim's Allisongs, BMI / Penny Annie Music, BMI »

I think I know the way the story's gonna end
It's getting to the part I hate when heartache closes in
The stage is set it's time for me to leave
Cause I don't wanna see the final scene
Fade to blue we didn't make it through let the curtain fall and fade to blue

We played the part of lovers knew every line by heart
But sometimes love just can't erase what's written in the stars
So before the bitter words come crashing down
Let's leave what's left and the lights go out
Fade to blue we didn't make it through let the curtain fall and fade to blue

Almost happy endings have no way of coming true
Once the feelings starts to fade to blue
We didn't make it through
So let the curtain fall just fade to blue and fade to blue
