This is the self-titled debut for Ricochet. It was released under the Sony/Columbia label in 1996. The album went on to be certified gold. Songs like "Daddy's Money," "What Do I Know," and "Love Is Stronger Than Pride" are all listed in the tracks, and all landed in Top Ten spots on the Billboard music chart. The same year the debut was released, Ricochet's music earned it awards such as top new vocal group from the Academy of Country Music, top new country artist from Billboard magazine, group of the year from the Radio & Records reader's poll, and favorite new group or duo by the Country Weekly Golden Pick awards. Ricochet — the group and the album — offers contemporary country fans some great harmonies that are showcased on ballads like "What Do I Know." There are also some great up-tempo numbers with plenty of guitar action. Overall, the debut is a pretty impressive contribution. Members of the country group are fiddler and guitarist Junior Bryant, bass guitarist Greg Cook, steel guitarist Shannon Farmer, drummer and harmonica player Keith Mellington, keyboardist Steve Paxton, and lead guitarist Heath Wright. All members serve vocal duties, but Wright is the lead singer. Some of the members also handle songwriting. The country band tours a lot, even doing USO shows for the armed services.

DADDY'S MONEY

Can't concentrate on the preacher preaching my attention span done turned off
I'm honed in on that angel singing up there in the choir loft
She's got her daddy's money her mama's good looks
More laughs than a stack of comic books
A wild imagination a college education add it all it's a deadly combination
She's a good bass fisher a dynamite kisser country as a turnip green
She's got her daddy's money her mama's good looks
And look who's lookin' at me
Her second cousin was my third grade teacher I used to cut her grandma's grass
Back then she was nothin' but knees and elbows golly did she grow up fast
She's got her daddy's money...
[ guitar - fiddle ]
Lord if you got any miracles handy maybe you could grant me one
Just let me walk down the aisle and say I do to that angel with a choir robe on
She's got her daddy's money...
She's got her daddy's money her mama's good looks
And she's lookin' at me yeah

WHAT DO YOU KNOW
(Stephony Smith - Sunny Russ - Cathy Majeski)
« © '95 Blackwood Music, BMI »
Hey I've been around I've seen it all love is a chain around your heart
That holds you down you're better off runnin' away before it starts
I wanted to chase my dreams I thought freedom meant everything
But hey hey what do I know I'm just a lonely fool that let you go
And now what do I do thought I could live without you
But what do I know
Look who I've become I wanted it all oh but it hasn't happened yet
Look what I've done I've built a wall in between me and happiness
I had the answers I made the rules and I thought I had nothing to lose
But hey hey what do I know...
[ guitar - steel ]
I had the answers I made the rules and I thought I had nothing to lose
But hey hey what do I know..
But what do I know

I CAN'T DANCE
(Andy Bird - Jim Robinson)
« © '94 Byrdanna Music, ASCAP / Good Apple Music, ASCAP »
She don't have to fake it that girl was born to shake it
Stompin' on the hardwood floor like she's gonna break it
She's the main attraction how can I get in on the action
Well there's only one way to get next to her
I can't dance but I'm willin' to learn
I'm a roper and rider I'm a lover and a fighter
I'm a mud slingin' son of a gun and a four wheel driver
But tonight I'm confessin' I might need her to give me a lesson
Say baby can you teach these old boots to burn
I can't dance but I'm willin' to learn
I can't dance but I'm willin' to learn
Takin' my number and waitin' my turn
Cowboys comin' from miles around
Just to be her partner when the two step comes around
Honey please won't you show me
I might fall baby you'd better hold me
Yeah bein' out here takes a lotta nerve
I can't dance but I'm willin' to learn
[ guitar ]
Oh I can't dance but I'm willin' to learn...
It might take me forever but I'll follow you till I get better
We can go all night as far as I'm concerned
I can't dance but I'm willin' to learn
Baby can you teach these old boots to burn
I can't I can't I can't dance but I'm willin' to learn
I can't dance but I'm willin' to learn
I can't dance but I'm willin' to learn

LOVE IS STRONGER THAN PRIDE
(Rick Bowles - Doug Johnson)

I saw your mama and she said don't call you
Talked to your best friend and she said no need to
But I had to tell you I hate how I hurt you
Now I know how bad I hurt me too
If I've gotta get down on my knees tonight I'll do it
If you want to see me cry then baby let's get to it
If I've gotta beg and plead to make you see I need you in my life
Well love is stronger than pride
I've got no right to ask you to forgive me
But I've got no choice cause it's about to kill me
I've been headstrong and I was deadwrong
And one minute more without you's just too long
If I've gotta get down on my knees...
[ guitar ]
If I've gotta beg and plead to make you see I need you in my life
Well love is stronger than pride
Oh if I've gotta beg and plead to make you see I need you in my life
Well love is stronger my love is stronger
Well love is stronger than pride

Rumors abound you're runnin' around
And everybody tells me I've been blind
Well it's killing me how could this be
Won't you ease my troubled mind
All night long I walk the floor don't make me walk it anymore
Take this doubt off me now baby please ease my troubled mind
I get no sleep got no peace imagination's workin' overtime
With every thought of you with somebody new
Won't you ease my troubled mind
Tell me I ain't losin' you help me I don't know what to do
Hold me close say you'll never go baby please ease my troubled mind
[ fiddle - piano - guitar ]
Tell me I ain't losin' you help me I don't know what to do
So hold me close say you'll never go won't you ease my troubled mind
Baby please ease my troubled mind oh yeah
Won't you ease my troubled mind

LITTLE BIT OF LOVE
(Andy Byrd - Jim Robinson - Stan Meissner)
« © '95 WB Music, ASCAP »
I knew she was troubled when she asked me to dance
And two songs later things got outta hand
Well she gave a ride in her brand new car
Goin' ninety miles an hour underneath the stars
And we went too far
By the time we pulled over on that old dirt road
We were foggin' up the windows and out of control
I thought I had a heart that could never be tamed
A little bit of love is a dangerous thing
But one small kiss can go a long long way
You gotta be careful when you play this game
A little bit of love is a dangerous thing
We made wild promises in the dark
Then we filled up the tank at the quickle mart
Now you can call us crazy or call it fate
We were headed for Vegas on the interstate
We just couldn't wait
Found a little chapel called the Burnin' Love
Somethin' bout that girl had me all shook up
I thought I had a heart that could never be tamed...
[ fiddle - steel ]
The preacher looked like Elvis and he started to sing
As he reached in his pocket for a pawnshop ring
He said congratulations boy now it's all arranged
A little bit of love is a dangerous thing
But one small kiss can go a long long way
A little bit of love is a dangerous thing
You gotta be careful when you play this game
A little bit of love is a dangerous thing
A little bit of love is a dangerous thing

FROM GOOD TO BAD TO WORSE TO GONE
(Frank Dycus - Billy Yates - Chris Cummings)
« © '95 Billy Do Music, BMI / Sixteen Stars Music, BMI / CPL Publishing, ASCAP »
She was a preacher's daughter a small town girl
She didn't know a single thing about the ways of my world
I was a lesson in doin' wrong she learned real fast
She went from Sunday school into Saturday night
The girl next door into neaon lights
School girl dresses into jeans that fit skin tight
She went from good to bad to worse to gone
And like a fool I thought she knew where she belonged
Everything I did she tried and it turned out wrong
She went from good to bad to worse to gone
[ fiddle - steel ]
I took her places she'd never been before
But now she don't need no help with them swinging doors
Thought I was livin' fast in that passin' lane
Till she flew by like I was standin' still
With no hands on that steerin' wheel
Left fire tracks on this heart that she road killed
She went from good to bad to worse to gone...
She went from good to bad to worse to gone

TRUTH IS I LIED
(Bill Anderson - Skip Ewing)
« © '95 Mr Bubba Music, BMI / Tree Publishing, BMI /
Acuff-Rose Music, BMI / Write On Music, BMI »
I said it was over I said we were through
I said when I left I was done loving you
But I'm fighting a feeling that can't be denied
Forget what I told you the truth is I lied
I know you weren't expecting this visit from me
With my hat in my hand and my heart on my sleeve
But I've stopped my pretending and I've swallowed my pride
I'm not above saying the truth is I lied
The truth is I'm not quite as strong as I thought
This battle is harder than any war that we fought
I said I could just push your mem'ry aside
And I meant it when I said it but the truth is I lied
Is it asking too much to forget and forgive
Dying for your love is no way to live
And the truth is I'm not quite as strong as I thought...
Oh I meant it when I said it but the truth is I lied

I WASN'T READY FOR YOU
(Craig Wiseman - Ronnie Samoset)
« © '95 Almo Music, ASCAP / WB Music, ASCAP »
I've done my time alone I finally beat the blues
Heavens above I was ready for love oh but I wasn't ready for you
I crossed some shaky ground had some dreams fall through
Thought I was ready for something steady oh but I wasn't ready for you
I used to be a boy scout thought I knew all about keepin' myself prepared
After all that I'd seen I was ready for anything but then I saw you standin' there
Talk about your heavenly blessings talk about your dreams come true
I was feeling spiritual and ready for a miracle oh but I wasn't ready for you
[ guitar - fiddle ]
I used to be a boy scout...
I was feeling spiritual and ready for a miracle oh but I wasn't ready for you

ROWDY
(Michael Clark - Jeff Stevens)
« © '94 Warner-Tamerlane Publishing, BMI »
It's hour number thirty nine just one more left to go
Been working like a dog all week just to hear that whistle blow
Well I know sometimes you like those quiet nights just you and me
Well tonight we're goin' someplace loud
And the floor's thump thump thumpin' underneath our feet
It's about time we got rowdy forget about workin' and just get crazy
Burn that line till our boots are smokin'
Well the sun's going down baby let's hit this town
Let's get rowdy tonight
[ guitar ]
Gonna turn this old joint upside down gonna beat it like a drum
Gonna kick our heels up so high make the rafters rattle and hum
Baby let's take this paycheck burn it at both ends
We'll dance through the ashes and then do it all over again
It's about time we got rowdy...
[ fiddle - guitar ]
Oh the sun's going down baby let's hit this town
Let's get rowdy tonight
It's about time we got rowdy...
