ABLE BODIED MAN
(Jerry Foster - Bill Rice)
« © '69 PolyGram Int, ASCAP »
I'm calling from the station and I haven't got much time to let you know
Got a ticket for Misoury and there's things I need to say before I go
If I could I'd have you meet me but I don't see how I can
I don't have enough to pay your fare
There's a factory in Columbus hiring now I understand
And they're looking for an able bodied man
You should receive some money in a letter that I mailed two days ago
But when I wrote the letter sayin' you could come to me I didn't know
That I was goin' to lose my job in such a little while
So now we're gonna have to change our plans
They may not hire me in Columbus but I'm pretty sure they will
Cause they're lookin' for an able bodied man
[ steel ]
If I'd a had more education I'd of made a better life for me and you
But just simple manual labor is the only kind of work that I can do
The bus is loadin' for Misoury so I guess I'd better go
I'll call you just as soon as I can
I'll be sendin' you a ticket cause I think I'll get a job
If they're lookin' for an able bodied man
And remember I'm your able bodied man

THROUGH THE YEARS
(Jerry Foster - Bill Rice)
« © '69 PolyGram Int, ASCAP »
Seems like only yesterday we fell in love
Just barely old enough to be sincere
Back then I thought I loved you all I could
But I've grown to love you more through the years
Through the years I've had you to keep me happy
Hand in hand we face tomorrow with no fears
Side by side we've walked the road of life together
And each step has drawn us closer through the years
Now we've raised all our children and they're gone
Once again you and I are all alone
But I never will be lonely while you're here
Cause we've got a love that's lasted through the years
Through the years I've had you to keep me happy...
And each step has drawn us closer through the years

IS ANYBODY GOING TO SAN ANTONE
(Dave Kirby - Glenn Martin)
« © '69 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Rain drippin' off the brim of my hat sure is cold today
Here I am walkin' down 66 wish she hadn't done me that way
Sleeping under a table in a roadside park a man could wake up dead
But it sure seems warmer than it did sleepin' in our king size bed
Is anybody goin' to San Antone or Phoenix Arizona
Anyplace is all right as long as I can forget I've ever known her
[ fiddle - steel ]
Wind whippin' down the neck of my shirt like I ain't got nothin' on
But I'd rather fight the wind and rain than what I've been fightin' at home
Yonder comes a truck with the US Mail people writin' letters back home
Tomorrow she'll probably want me back but I'll still be just as gone
Is anybody goin' to San Antone or Phoenix Arizona...

THOUGHT OF LOSING YOU
(Jerry Foster - Bill Rice)
« © '69 PolyGram Int, ASCAP »
You look good to me ev'ry mornin' over coffee
Even with the curlers in your hair
I just kinda smile and consider myself lucky
And I'm happy just to know that I've got you to care
Ev'rything I am I am because you love me
Whatever I become depends on what you do
And yet I'm so afraid that you'll be gone some mornin'
And the one thing I can't stand is the thought of losing you
[ steel ]
Through these eyes of mine I see you in perfection
Darling no one else could love you more
And so you're mine alone and far off of temptation
But the thought of losing you scares me through and through
Ev'rything I am I am because you love me...

I THINK I'LL TAKE A WALK
(Jack Clement)
« © '69 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
I think I'll take a boat and sail the ocean
And spend my life just roaming on the sea
And kiss the girls from Panama to China
Then she'll be sorry she mistreated me
I think I'll take a walk and think it over
Cause things are gettin' tougher for me here
Now that someone else has come between us
I think I'll take a walk and disappear
[ steel ]
I'll think about the way it makes me jealous
To see her walking arm in arm with him
And I'll think about the stars up in the heavens
And wish that I could be on one of them
I think I'll take a walk just to forget her
And walk about a million miles from here
I have a notion to just be a rambler
I think I'll take a walk and disappear

THINGS ARE LOOKING UP
(Hugh X. Lewis)
« © '69 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »
I just pulled the thread that unraveled my life with you
And I'm rebuilding at home a little at a time
Now and then your mem'ry slows my project down
But things are lookin' up I haven't lost my mind
Things are lookin' up I haven't called you now in days
The hurt still drops by ev'ry night but it no longer stays
When I can't touch or taste or hear or see you in my mind
Yes things are lookin' up and all I need is time
I went to church with the kids and it didn't fall
I let them think they talked me into goin'
Their mom look proud and even held my hand
Oh things are lookin' up when hurt's not showin'
Things are lookin' up I haven't called you now in days...

SPECIAL
(Jerry Foster - Bill Rice)
« © '69 PolyGram Int, ASCAP »
The only thing I really own is what you see me wearin' on my back
The only friends I've ever known are the kind you meet along a railroad track
The kind you bum tobacco from and view the world with through a boxcar door
A friend who talks and makes you laugh has nothin' much but gives you half
And maybe you don't see him anymore
Special I hear your lonesome whistle whine
It's callin' me
Special keep movin' me on down the line
My mackinaw is full of holes and ain't too good at keepin' out the cold
My shoes are worn so paper thin my feet can feel the cinders through the soles
Sometimes I see a pretty girl and wonder what I've missed along the way
Once someone special wore my ring and loved me more than anything
I gave her up and caught a train one day
Special I had a special girl one time
Now she's not mine
Special keep movin' me on down the line

POOR BOY LIKE ME
(Alex Zanetis)
« © '69 Tree Publishing, BMI »
She grew up in the backwood country
Found her dreams in movie magazines
Now she's gone lookin' for her castle
What chance is there for a poor boy like me
City lights oh you took my darlin'
And the love that she promised me
After wine and big city parties
What chance is there for a poor boy like me
Sold my house to Reverend Smith last Sunday
Left my farm with Abraham McGee
Had to go and rescue my darlin'
From the life I hear city folks lead
I found her dressed in fancy silks and satin
Spendin' money like it grew on trees
Living high in a big white mansion
What chance is there for a poor boy like me
What chance is there for a poor boy like me

(THERE'S) NOBODY HOME TO GO HOME TO
(Dickey Lee - Allen Reynolds - Mitt Addington)
« © '69 Songs Of PolyGram »
The neon lights are going out the barmaid's half asleep
Soon they'll have to close the door and put me on the street
About half as tight as I need to be to face this night alone
While others sleep in loving beds and I'm just kickin' stones
Cause there's nobody home to go home to
And I pray the Lord that somehow I'll get by
But there's nobody home to go home to
And tonight I'd like to lay me down and cry
[ steel ]
I see it in my foggy mind the shutters and the doors
Where flowers bloom and love once grew a hundred years before
Where a girl I used to know made my life a song
Then the picture fades away and all the world is wrong
Cause there's nobody home to go home to...
Yes tonight I'd like to lay me down and cry

THIS IS MY YEAR FOR MEXICO
(Vincent Matthews)
« © '69 Songs Of PolyGram »
I no longer notice if you're wearing perfume
I quit smokin' girl you never even knew
And the road is full of young and restless people
And they're full of the energy to move
It's a habit for us to stay together
We sit and watched the nightly shadows grow
Ev'ry day last year I left for California
This is my year for Mexico
We used to whisper love across the night time
Now we never whisper nor we call
Our love was left upon the shelf from winter
Where the sunlight never touches it at all
It's a habit for us to stay together...
[ fiddle ]
Your back is turned to me while you are reading
I close my eyes while I pretend to doze
From the road I hear the sound of passing traffic
Some of them are bound for Mexico
It's a habit for us to stay together...
This is my year for Mexico
