GETTIN' BACK TO NORMA
(Ray Griff)
« © '69 Helene Blue Musique, ASCAP »
Well I left one early morning when the dew was like a blanket on the grass
And I said goodbye to Norma in a note without a forwarding address
Well my life seemed kinda dull compared to all the things I'd heard and read about
Well there wasn't much excitement in our town so I decided to get out
Well that old grey dog was kind enough to carry me away for seven's kin
Lord when we rolled into Chicago just in time to catch the rain and howling winds
When the cottage streets and overtones of sex and violence ripped me to the core
Lord and I stud the mass confusion for a while but I can't take it anymore
Gotta get back to Norma and the world I left behind
Gotta get back to Norma uh and the Norma frame of mind
Well I'm going home to Monkingbirds picnics on a Sunday afternoon
Lord and my lust for life is over and the air as all gone out of my balloon
Well I've had my fill of unruly nights women that are classified as broads
And I'm a going home to sweet Norma get a little closer to my Lord
Gotta get back to Norma and the world I left behind
Gotta get back to Norma uh and the Norma frame of mind

EVERYDAY I HAVE TO CRY SOME
(Arthur Alexander)
« © '62 Combine Music, BMI »
There was a little girl I'd planned to marry
This was my love and I didn't want to share it
I thought that love would make my life bright and sunny
She said she couldn't love me cause I didn't have no money
Everyday I have to cry some everyday I have to cry some
Dry the water from my eyes some everyday I have to cry
I had me a girl I guess I really loved her
Every night I was thinking of her
But you can't mix love with money
Cause if you do you're gonna hurt somebody
Everyday I have to cry some...
[ trumpet ]
Lord I know that I'm just a poor man
But is it wrong to love cause I'm not a rich man
Everytime you mix love with money
Everytime it's gonna hurt somebody
Everyday I have to cry some...

LIVIN' IN A HOUSE FULL OF LOVE
(Billy Sherrill - Glenn Sutton)
« © '64 Al Gallico Music, BMI »
Now love is pullin' through the windows comin' in the doors
And I can feel it creepin' through the cracks in the floors
Bouncin' off the wall and the ceiling up above
Since I found you I'm livin' in a house full of love
All my life my heart's been walked on
Women said to love me and my heart to talk on
Tellin' me lies and fillin' my eyes with tears that I couldn't control
I couldn't get a hold to myself long enough to realize
They were only tryin' to pull a wool over my eyes
Then I found you the skies turned blue and I'm livin' in a house full of love
Now love is pullin' through the windows...
[ guitar - steel ]
Once I lived in a hole like a rabbit
Couldn't find a love and the blues were a habit
A lonely man I couldn't understand why everything I tried went wrong
Then you came along bless your heart showed me the right way
Dried my eyes and turned my nights to day
And I'm so proud I'm gonna holler out loud
Tell the world bout my house full of love
Now love is pullin' through the windows...
Now love is pullin' through the windows...

GUN
(Glenn Sutton)
« © '69 Al Gallico Music, BMI »
A million things run through my mind here in this cheap motel
As I compose the final note that tells the world farewell
And drink a toast to her and hope she's proud of what she's done
And hope my hands won't fail me when it's time to use the gun
(When it's time to use the gun)
It's not her fault she's not the kind that makes a decent wife
And cheating has been known to make a man take his own life
It's true that roses just can't grow in beds that have no sun
The hammer's cocked now all I need is the strenght to use the gun
(The strenght to use the gun)
The headlines in the paper catch my eye there on the bed
Man to walk on the moon at least I think that's what it said
Wish that I could go with them ain't they the lucky ones
Wish she loved me so I wouldn't have to use the gun
(Wouldn't have to use the gun)
Outside the door I hear a voice the pounding of a fist
Who'd dare invade my privacy at a time like this
As I take the chain lock from the door into my arms she runs
Screaming loud with every breath please don't use the gun
(Please don't use the gun)
I'll stay with you please don't use the gun

MAYBELLINE
(Chuck Berry - Alan Freed - Russ Fratto)
« © '55 Arc Music, BMI »
Maybelline why can't you be true oh Maybelline why can't you be true
You have started back doin' the things you used to do
Well as I was motivatin' over the hill I saw Maybelline in a Coupe deVille
Cadillac rollin' on an open road but nothin' outrun my V8 Ford
Cadillac doin' about ninety-five bumper to bumper rollin' side to side
Maybelline why can't you be true...
Well the Cadillac pulled up ahead of the Ford
The Ford got hot and wouldn't do no more
It done got cloudy and started to rain
I tooted my horn for the passin' lane
The rain water poured up under my motor hood
I knew that were doin' my motor good
Maybelline why can't you be true...
Hook it son
[ guitar ]
Well the motor cooled down the heat quit down
And that's when I heard that highway sound
Cadillac lookin' like a ton of lead a hundred and ten a half a mile ahead
Cadillac lookin' like it's sittin' still I caught Maybelline at the top of the hill
Maybelline why can't you be true...
You have started back doin' the things you used to do

BROWN EYED HANDSOME MAN
(Chuck Berry)
« © '56 Arc Music, BMI »
So now arrested on charges of unemployment sittin' in the witness stand
The Judge's wife called up the district attorney
Said free that brown eyed handsome man
If you want your job you better free that brown eyed man
Oh flyin' cross the desert in a TWA I saw a woman walkin' cross the sand
She'd been a walkin' thirty miles on route to LA
To get a brown eyed handsome man brown eyed handsome man
Way back in hist'ry three thousand years in fact ever since the world began
There'd been a whole lotta good lookin' women sheddin' tears
Over a brown eyed handsome man brown eyed handsome man
Well beautiful daughter couldn't make up her mind
Between a doctor and a lawyer friend
Her mama told her daughter darlin' go out and find
Yourself a brown eyed handsome man
Just like your daddy was a brown eyed handsome man
Well Milo de Venus was a beautiful lass she had the world in the palm of her hand
She lost both her arms in a wrestlin' match over brown eyed handsome man
Over brown eyed handsome man

I'M A LONESOME FUGITIVE
(Liz Anderson - Casey Anderson)
« © '66 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Down every road there's always one more city
I'm on the run the highway is my home
I've raised a lot of cane back in my younger days
While mama used to pray my crops would fail
Now I'm a hunted fugitive with just two ways
Outrun the law or spend my nights in jail
I'd like to settle down but they won't let me
A fugitive must be a rolling stone
Down every road there's always one more city
I'm on the run the highway is my home
[ dobro - fiddle ]
I'm lonely but I can't afford the luxury
Of someone I love to come along
She'd only slow me down and they'd catch up with me
For the one who travels fast moves alone
I'd like to settle down but they won't let me...
I'm on the run the highway is my home
I'm on the run the highway is my home

(Mack David)
« © '50 PolyGram Int, ASCAP »
Well I don't care if the sun don't shine
I keep my lovin' in the evenin' time when I'm with my baby
Well there ain't no fun with the sun around
But I get goin' when the sun goes down when I'm with my baby
That's when we're gonna kiss and kiss and kiss we're gonna kiss some more
Who cares how many time we kiss at a time like this who keeps score
Well I don't care if the sun don't shine
I keep my lovin' in the evenin' time when I'm with my baby
[ steel ]
(When I'm with my baby)

KNEE DEEP IN THE BLUES
(Melvin Endsley)
« © '56 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Well I've just been thinking things over my heart is flowing with tears
You know my life just don't seem worth living and it's been this way for years
When my skies have all turned to grey now I just walk the soles off of my shoes
I just don't have much to save now I'm just knee deep in the blues
Well don't ask me why I am crying cause I've lost about all I can lose
There's no use in me crying cause I'm just knee deep in the blues
[ steel - trumpet ]
Well don't ask me why I am crying...
Oh you know I'm just knee deep in the blues
I'm just knee deep in the blues
