I'LL NEVER BE THE SAME
(John D. Loudermilk)

She was just passing through I was just out for tea
She was headed round the world I have a meeting at three
And I'll never never be the same again
Never be the same never be the same
Never be the same never be the same again
Since we brushed briefly in the wind
She was readin' Will Durant I was halfway through The Times
Shew had dirty plimsolls on my city shoes were shined
And I'll never never be the same again...
She caught the Hovercraft I caught the Underground
She went to Luxembourgh I came on back uptown
And I'll never never be the same again...
Since we brushed briefly in the wind

FLYING FISH
(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '77 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Flying fish swimming through the ocean I feel like I know you
Fluttering struggling between two waves of ocean blue
Child of air child of sea may I drink to you and me
And to your health I think I know you
I've lived in half worlds before
So I know the wing and I know the fin
And I know this wind and my friend I think I know you too
We've lived in half worlds before
[ strings ]
Flying fish swimming through...
So I know the wing and I know the fin...

PLEASE JACK
(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '77 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
The other day a friend of mine looked me straight in the eye
And said he was going to devote the rest of his life to making a billion bucks
So I wrote this poem especially for him in hopes he'll change his mind
You got it all figured out eh Jack a billion bucks you're gonna make right
And then you say you're gonna give it all away and then what
After you've got the big house the big car
The swimming pool the motorcycles the boats after the airplanes
After all these things then what Jack
You got it all figured out you say you're gonna give it all away
And move to the woods and live simply like other normal human beings
And all you want from there on out is just enough to get by on
Well take a tip from all the great minds that ever thought and wrote it down Jack
Skip the billion dollar bill Son and do the woods thing
Don't waste your time Jack do the woods thing now
Please Jack please Jack please

WHAT WOULD IT TAKE
(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '77 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
What would it take to let the wind
Blow through the room that you're living in
What would it take what would it take my friend
What would it take to let the breeze
Blow through your room like it does through the trees
What would it take what would it take my friend
Open your window let the fresh air in
Let the sunshine be your old time friend
What would it take to let the wind...
[ dobro ]
What would it take to get to be friends
With Mother Nature again
What would it take what would it take my friend
What would it take for the sun and the air
To caress you everywhere
What would it take what would it take my friend
Open your window look up and smile
Let God have a great big look at his child
What would it take to let the wind...

KITCHEN SONG
(John D. Loudermilk - Susan Loudermilk)
« © '77 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
What you cooking in your aluminium pot
That little one that keeps your kisses so hot
Baby what a lovely smell that it's got
Come on and tell me now what you've got
What you cooking hon what you fixing up what you doing up
Mix it up boil it up fry it up baste it
No matter how it's done you know I won't waste it
Lord a mercy girl I almost can taste it
I like your fish and like your chips
Greasy loving all over your lips
I like your steak and your kidney pie
It ain't your kidneys though catchin' my eye now
What you cooking hon what you doing up what you fixing there
Mix it up boil it up fry it up baste it
No matter how it's done you know I won't waste it
Lord a mercy girl I almost can taste it
You know how much I like to drink and to eat
But it's love that makes a meal complete
Lord a mercy girl your loving's so sweet
And I'm starving how about something to eat
What you cooking now you're still good looking now what you frying up
Mix it up boil it up fry it up baste it
No matter how it's done you know I won't waste it
Lord a mercy girl I almost can taste it

EVERY DAY I LEARN A LITTLE MORE ABOUT LOVE
(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '77 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Every day I learn a little more about love
Every day I learn a little more about love
Every day I learn a little more about love mhmmm
Love is a life preserver a spare tire a raincoat an umbrella
Love is a fire extinguisher a waterproof match a safety belt a band aid
Every day I learn a little more about love...
Love is a parachute a safety chain a deadbolt love is a pistol
Love is always there when you need it a bomb shelter a pyramid a harbor
Every day I learn a little more about love...
Love is a rocking chair a breaker switch a high tree in the forest a lifeboat
Love answers the SOS whispered between chattering teeth in the dead of night
Love is the glow on the horizon love is the lighthouse
Every day I learn a little more about love...

WHY CAN'T I BELIEVE IN YOU
(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '77 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
They say I'm a fool to believe in such things as life hereafter and such
That horseshoes and four-leaf clovers couldn't possibly bring me good luck
They laugh when I throw salt over my shoulder and walk around a black cat
And whoever heard my Lord it's absurd to believe in three on a match
Superstition that's true but I also believe in you
Why if I believe in these things can't I believe in you
[ harmonica ]
Halloween's such a delight with witches and goblins and spooks
People say John you're too old to be acting like some kind of kook
Walking around ladders with rabbitts feet
Dangling and saying God bless when you sneeze
They tell me I'm superstitious and I guess I'll have to agree
Superstition that's true...
[ harmonica ]
My dad taught me how to read fortunes in coffee cup grounds people leave
And ever since I was a youngun that's been a thing I believed
I believe in things like magic and dreams and I thank my lucky stars
I believe in the basic goodness of man and just how good we all are
If I believe dreams come true why can't I believe in you
Why can't I believe in you
If my friend this is true why can't I believe in you
Why if I believe in these things can't I believe in you

HATTERAS JACK
(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '77 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Over in the Carolina where the Atlantic meets the sand
There are many legends of the sea and of the land
This one's of a porpoise who'd meet the ships that came
And guide them into the harbor Hatteras Jack was his name
The treacherous inlet waters covered shallow shoals that moved
But Hatteras Jack could pilot the biggest schooners through
And when the chains would rattle and the anchor splash the blue
Old Hatteras Jack'd put on the darndest act for all the craw
Hatteras Jack come on back boy
Hatteras Jack come on back son
Many a sailor's seen him or so the story goes
Absolutely wipe a shark out with his nose
But after the bells and the buoys and the horns came into use
Since the gasoline engine no one's seen that old goose
Hatteras Jack come on back boy
Hatteras Jack come on back son
Come on back Hatteras Jack come on back Hatteras Jack
Come on back come on back come on back Hatteras Jack
Come on back Hatteras Jack come on back boy come on back
Come on back Hatteras Jack come on back Hatteras Jack boy
Come on back

VISION OF GOODBYE
(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '77 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
A little god of yellow light is having a doggone good time
Dancing in the eyes that cannot love me anymore
An eagle screams high in the cliffs
And all at once the hair stands up all over me and my heart slips
Your lovely face of tangerine
For an instant flickers on the mental mirror of my dusty dreams
A cloud of stars with little islands
Pierces the black wind with a song much lonelier than silence
Millions of me's are playing now
Deep within the saddened temple of my soul I don't know how
So if you must go do it soon
The show must go on but once you're gone
All the songs from then on will be out of tune

THIS WORLD IS NOT MY HOME
(Mary Reeves - Albert E. Brumley)
« © '52 Tree Publishing, BMI / Bridge Building Music, BMI »
This world is not my home I'm just a passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I don't feel at home in this world anymore
Oh Lord you know I have no friend like you
If heaven's not my home then Lord what will I do
The angels beckon me from heaven's open door
And I don't feel at home in this world anymore
[ autoharp ]
Oh Lord you know I have no friend like you...
