There are very few perfect combinations in this world. Things just don't always turn out right. Marriages flounder on the rocks; two horses may not pull together; and sometimes ballplayers - for all their whoop-it-up-can't generate the ol' team spirit. Be it marriages, horses, ballplayers or what-have-you, joint efforts result in sussess or ailure. It's as simple is that. Looking back, of course, one can judge whether a given combination was good or bad. If you can predict success you are either a prophet or lucky enough to be working with a perfect mbination. Music is a matter of right combinations, too - especially a recording session, because it is a marvelous team effort. The teamwork begins with the drive loosed by an artist and his producer and it, hopefully, becomes apparent on a recording that people will like. Judging from the indisputable success of Hank Locklin recordings, one can conclude that the Hank Locklin - Chet Atkins combination is perfect. Now this is nice! It allows you to predict that any of their combined efforts should meet with success. So when Hank and Chet began exchanging notes and phone calls on the subject of a new album, it was the beginning of an exciting season. When it became evident that both were eager to make a gospel album, the interest grew. "But I don't want it to be just an ordinary gospel album, Chet," Hank said. "I want it to be full of life and power!" "With a beat," Chet summarized. "And maybe a sax? Hank asked. "Uh huh," Chet nodded. So, sax it was ! And beat it has! However, before this album was recorded, there was the matter of choosing twelve songs best reflecting Hank's strong religious feeling. Sometimes good songs are hard to come by, but in this case it was a problem to choose from so many. Hank had perhaps fifty favorites and Chet suggested a few he liked. Needles to say, several consultations were held before the songs were chosen, and seldom have twelve been selected with such care! I like one especially. It is Hank's own song, Upper Room. It is the story of the Last Supper which preceded days of darkness and glory. Hank had already released the song as a single, and, when he came to Nashville to record this album, I took him to see the well-known chapel of Upper Room here. Like visitors from all over Christendom, he was captivated by its splendor. "Let's make the album cover picture here," he said quietly. And it was done. For those who already know and love the music of the Gospel, let me assure you that this album is full of newness for you. For those who are yet to know both the inspiration and happiness of gospel music, there is no better introduction than this outstanding Hank Locklin album, The Gloryland Way.

ANYWHERE IS HOME
(Bill Walker)
« © '56 Lilac Tree Music, BMI »
Earthly wealth and fame may never come to me
In the Pallit Fair here my name may never be
But not come what may it cries for me with care
Anywhere is home if he is only there
Anywhere is home let come and go what may
Anywhere I roam he keeps me all the way
So for his fear sake my cross I'll neatly bear
Anywhere is home if Christ my Lord is there
[ sax ]
I will labor on till I am called away
Till the morn shall dawn up there eternal day
Looking unto him to keep me in his care
Anywhere is home if Christ my Lord is there
Anywhere is home let come and go what may...

FIFTY MILES OF ELBOW ROOM
(Hank Locklin)
« © '49 Bathurst Music, BMI »
(When the gates swing wide on the other side just beyond the sunset sea
There'll be room to spare as we enter there there'll be room for you and for me
For the gates are wide on the other side where the flowers ever bloom
On the right hand on the left hand fifty miles of elbow room)
Twelve hundred miles it's length and breadth that four square city stands
It's gem set walls of Jasper shine they're not made by human hands
One hundred miles it's gates are wide in that great city fair
With fifty miles of elbow room on other side to spare
(When the gates swing wide on the other side just beyond the sunset sea...
That four square city I shall see when dawn will fall in time
Sometimes it seems I almost hear the bells of glory chime
This will be mine when I shall pass into that city fair
With fifty miles of elbow room on other side to spare
(When the gates swing wide on the other side just beyond the sunset sea...
Sometimes I'm cramped and crowded here and long for elbow room
I long to reach for altitude where the fair all flowers bloom
This will be mine when I shall pass beyond the gates so fair
With fifty miles of elbow room on either side to spare
(When the gates swing wide on the other side just beyond the sunset sea...
On the right hand on the left hand fifty miles of elbow room

GOOD BOOK SONG
(Karl Davis)
« © '66 Bathurst Music, BMI »
Won't you let the good book make you good give it a try today
Then all alone your way singing so bright and gay
The good book's a guide book this we know in it we should believe
Heaven's blessings ask and you shall recieve
There's a little one room country church upon a hill so high
They'd built it near the sky so God to be close by
When the congregation feel salvation they make the rafter's ring
Happiness fills your souls when they start to sing
Won't you let the good book make you good give it a try today...
[ trumpet ]
In the little one room country church under the sky so blue
You'll feel that God himself is sitting there with you
Both young and old will join in some to make you feel so proud
Some may not sing good but they all sing loud
Won't you let the good book make you good give it a try today...

Lest I fall upon the wayside lead me gently home

Lead me gently home father lead me gently home
In life's darkest hours father when life's troubles come
Keep my feet from wandering lest from Thee I'll roam
Lest I fall upon the wayside lead me gently home

Lest I fall upon the wayside lead me gently home

(Chas Moody)
« © '54 Bridge Building Music, BMI »
(Jesus will meet you there)
Kneel at the cross Christ will meet you there
Come while he waits for you
Listen to his voice to leave within you care
And begin life anew
Kneel at the cross leave every care
Kneel at the cross Jesus will meet you there
Kneel at the cross there is room
For all who would his glory share
Bless their way and you'll never fall
Those who are anchored there
Kneel at the cross leave every care...
[ sax ]
Kneel at the cross give your idles up
Look onto rims above
Turn on the way to God's sparkling cup
Trust only in his love
Kneel at the cross leave every care...

WINGS OF A DOVE
(Bob Ferguson)
« © '59 Husky Music, BMI / Larrick Music, BMI »
On the wings of a snow white dove
He sends his pure sweet love
A sign from above on the wings of a dove
When troubles surround us when evils come
The body grows weak the spirit grows numb
When these things beset us he doesn't forget us
He sends down his love on the wings of a dove
On the wings of a snow white dove...
When Noah has drifted on the flood many days
He searched for land in various ways
Troubles he had some but wasn't forgotten
He sent him his love on the wings of a dove
On the wings of a snow white dove...
[ guitar ]
When Jesus went down to the waters that day
He was baptized in the usual way
When it was done God blessed his son
He sent him his love on the wings of a dove
On the wings of a snow white dove...

COME AND DINE
(Charles B. Widmeyer - S.H. Bolton)
« © '66 Singspiration Music, ASCAP »
Jesus has a table spread where the saints of God are fed
He invites his chosen people come and dine
With his manna he doth feed and supplies our every need
Oh tis sweet to sup with Jesus all the time
Come and dine the Master calleth come and dine
You may feast at Jesus table all the time
He who fed the multitude turned the water into wine
To the hungry calleth now come and dine
The disciples came to land thus obeying Christ's command
For the Master called unto them come and dine
There they found their heart's desire bread and fish upon the fire
Thus he satisfies the hungry every time
Come and dine the Master calleth come and dine...
[ sax - organ ]
Soon the lamb will take his bride to be ever at his side
All the host of heaven will assembled be
Oh twill be a glorious sight all the saints in spotless white
And with Jesus they will feast eternally
Come and dine the Master calleth come and dine...

JUST OVER IN THE GLORYLAND
(James W. Acuff - Emmet S. Dean)
« © '63 Hymntime Music, PD »
I've a home prepared where the saints abide
Just over in the Gloryland
And I long to be by my Savior's side
Just over in the Gloryland
Just over in the Gloryland
I'll join the happy angel band
Just over in the Gloryland
Just over in the Gloryland
There with the mighty host I'll stand
Just over in the Gloryland
I am on my way to those mansions
Fair just over in the Gloryland
There to sing God's praise and his glory
Share just over in the Gloryland
Just over in the Gloryland...
What a joyful thought that my Lord
I'll see just over in the Gloryland
And with him there to stay there forever be
Just over in the Gloryland
Just over in the Gloryland...
