While it has been said before, Chris LeDoux is a real singing cowboy. And while he has tended to get bogged down in the pop/rock country factory business in the more recent past, he has a solid background of independence and rodeo buckles that few artists can claim. He is seemingly fueled by the kind of fire and combustible energy that only a man who has sustained eight seconds on the back of a wild beast can muster up. With a little help from pals Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, and rock & roll cowboy Jon Bon Jovi, LeDoux hits his mark and rides out of the chute with panache. The title cut is sweet as is his version of "Old Paint." "One Ride In Vegas" and Bon Jovi's "Bang a Drum" highlight LeDoux's faster spirit. Wilder still is "The Fever," "Sometimes You Just Gotta Ride," and the Tex-Mex sizzle of "The Borderline." Pulling out all the stops, LeDoux does a tremendous version of the Johnny Horton tune "Old Slew Foot" that is immensely satisfying. Always a showman, LeDoux is champion outside the rodeo area as well as within.

ONE TONIGHT

Girl I recognize the smoke in your eyes I've seen it in mine too
We both have been burned hard lessons learned from making some bad moves
We keep looking for the perfect time and place
Good things don't always come to those who wait
Sometimes you've got to make your own fate

If there ever was a moment that felt so right this is one tonight
If there ever was a reason to hold on tight this is one tonight
We've been beatin' round the bush we've been bidin' our time
We've been searchin' the skies for a heavenly sign
But if you're looking for a love that's the keeping kind this is one tonight

I've spent too many nights wishin' that I could say what I'm saying
Moments like this should be lost in a kiss and not in debating
We got nothing to lose but precious time
Sooner or later gotta lay it on the line
Roll the dice and put your hand in mine

If there ever was a moment that felt so right...
[ guitar ]
We've been beatin' round the bush...

RUNAWAY LOVE
(Chris Ledoux)
« © '98 Lehsem Songs, BMI »

Bluebonnets line a hundred miles of Texas highway
All the way from Katy to downtown San Antonio
The sun's so hot I feel the steam rise off the Chevrolet
If you can stand the heat we'll drive on down to Mexico
Well I got some money we can make it to Laredo
We'll drop off our troubles in the mighty Rio Grande
Come on sugar ain't you my amigo
We can build our castles in the Tapico sand

I got the wheel baby you can have my shoulder
We'll find forever in the stars up above
No need to worry you can slide on over
We're ridin' high on a runaway love
We're ridin' high on a runaway love

Ten thousand kisses blowing through me like a hurricane
Should've left that one horse town a long long time ago
We'll shoot tequila watch the sun set over yesterday
We'll cross the border babe and we're on cruise control
I know its crazy and we might be taking chances
But going nowhere was more than we could stand
I'll be your Romeo you can be my Spanish dancer
I'll play guitar in a mariachi band

I got the wheel baby you can have my shoulder...

We can leave it all behind ain't no tellin what we'll find
Ain't got nothin to lose
I got you by my side lay back and let it ride
We'll be dancin' bearfoot by the light of the moon

I got the wheel baby you can have my shoulder...
I got the wheel baby you can have my shoulder...

BORDERLINE
(Chris Ledoux)
« © '98 Lehsem Songs, BMI »

In a cloud of dust cross Texas south of San Antone
A lawman and a cowboy pushed their horses on
Racin' toward the Rio runnin' out of time
They had to catch the outlaws before they crossed the borderline

Well the lawman wanted justice the cowboy needs revenge
They tracked the outlaws horses up to the rivers edge
And there across the the Rio a badge ain't worth a dime
The law was in their own hands once they crossed the borderline

So they ride to the desert wind
Down a dusty trail destiny begins
And heros never turn or look back
They just ride through the sands of time
On the borderline

In the saftey of the badlands the outlaws stop their run
The campfire rings with laughter of the evil things they've done
How they'd taken all they wanted and they killed the cowboy's wife
They knew no one would follow them cross the borderline

Now the lawman and the cowboy stepped out of the dark
Though it was two agsinst the twenty every bullet found its mark
And so goes the legend that out there in the night
The two still ride together somewhere beyond the borderline

So they ride to the desert wind...
So they ride to the desert wind...

OLD PAINT
(John Flynn)
« © '98 Lehsem Songs, BMI »

Ridin' back from town tonight I don't need the trail moonlight
This old horse knows his way home
I don't have to touch the reins he's right on track just like a train
This old horse knows his way home
This old horse knows his way home

He waits faithfully to save me from poker games and painted ladies
This old horse knows his way home
And when my heart or pay is gone I climb up and just hold on
This old horse knows his way home
This old horse knows his way home

Cowboy blues fade to black in an old bunkhouse rack
And so I whistle back in the saddle again
[ guitar ]
Cowboy blues fade to black in an old bunkhouse rack
And so I whistle back in the saddle again
[ guitar ]
Ridin' back from town tonight I don't need the trail moonlight
This old horse knows his way home
This old horse knows his way home
This old horse knows his way home

FEVER
(Bryan Kennedy - Steven Tyler - Joe Berry)
« © '95 April Music, ASCAP / Old Boots Music, ASCAP /
Rope And Dally, ASCAP / Swag Songs Music, ASCAP »

He's got a split finger wrap and his rope's pulled way too tight
He's got a lunatic smile cause he's really drawn deep tonight
He's got a fever fever fever fever

Grab a hold of anything and hold on tight
It hits you like the venom from a rattlesnake bite
We're all here cause he's not all there tonight

He takes one last breath and time turns inside out
Then the gate busts open to the world he dreams about
He's got a fever fever fever fever

Stick a rope on anything 'cause he don't care
He'd even take a ride in an electric chair
We're all here cause he's not all there tonight

He says it's really kinda simple keep your mind in the middle
While your butt spins round and round
Take heed to Sankey's preachin' keep liftin' and reachin'
And ridin' like there ain't no clowns
[ guitar ]
What he loves might kill him but he's got no choice
He's a different breed with a voice down deep inside
That's screamin' he was born to ride
He's got a fever fever fever fever

Fever makes you crazy cause it makes no sense
Like runnin' from your shadow out of self-defense
But he won't run and baby he can't hide
He thinks the odds are even leavin' one hand tied
He gets so tired of hangin' on so tight
I know you think he's crazy well I think you're right
We're all here cause he's not all there that's right

BANG A DRUM
(Jon Bonjovi)
« © '98 PolyGram Int, ASCAP »

[ with Jon Bonjovi ]

I went to see the preacher to teach me how to pray
He looked at me and smiled then that preacher turned away
Said if you want to tell him something you ain't gotta fold your hands
Say it with your heart your soul and believe it and I'll say amen

Bang a drum for the sinners bang a drum for your sins
Bang a drum for the losers and those who win
Bang a drum bang it loudly or as soft as you need
Bang a drum for yourself son and a drum for me

Well I called upon my brother just the other day
He said Jon I'm gonna die if I don't start to live again
I work each day and night like clockwork just tryin' to make ends meet
Well I could kick this bad world's ass if I could just get on my feet

Bang a drum for the dying bang a drum for the truth
Bang a drum for the innocence lost in our youth
Bang a drum bang it loudly or as soft as you need
Bang a drum for your brother and a drum for me

I don't know where all the rivers run
I don't know how far I don't know how come
But I'm gonna die believin' with each step that I take
Ain't worth the ground that I walk if we don't walk it our own way
[ guitar ]
I don't claim to be a wise man a poet or a saint
Just another man who's searchin' for a better way
But my heart beats loud as thunder for the things that I believe
Sometimes I want to run for cover sometimes I want to scream

Bang a drum for the tomorrow bang a drum for the past
Bang a drum for heroes who won't come back
Bang a drum for the promise bang a drum for the lies
Bang a drum for the lovers and the tears they cry
Bang a drum bang it loudly or as soft as you need
But as long as my heart keeps on banging
I've got a reason to believe

OLE SLEW FOOT
(Howard Hausey - Eddie Manney)
« © '59 Little Hurry Music, BMI »

Well high on the mountain boys I'll tell you what I see
Bear tracks bear tracks looking back at me
You better get your rifle before it's too late
That bear's got a little pig and headed for the gate

He's bigger around the middle and he's broad across the rump
Running ninety miles an hour taking forty feet jumps
Ain't never been caught he ain't never been treat
Some folks say he looks a lot like me

I saved up my money and I bought me some bees
They started making honey way up in the trees
I chopped down the tree but my honey's all gone
Old Slew foot has done made himself at home

He's bigger around the middle...
[ fiddle - guitar ]
Now winter's comin' on and it's forty below
The river froze over so where can he go
We chased him up to golly and we caught him in the well
Shoot him in the bottom just to listen to him yell

He's bigger around the middle...
He's bigger around the middle...
Some folks say he looks a lot like me
Some folks say he looks a lot like me

ONE RIDE IN VEGAS
(Brett Beavers - Deryl Dodd)
« © '98 Homesick Cowboy Music, BMI / See The Hook Music, BMI / BMG Songs, ASCAP »

He's packed up his boots and his saddle
Seventeen headin' out on his own
And he'll rodeo from Cheyenne to Texas
Dreaming of one ride in Vegas one ride in Vegas

Lonely nights in rundown motel rooms
Aches and pains from yesterday's ride
It's takin' more than he thought he could give it
But he's holdin' on for one ride in Vegas one ride in Vegas

And he's risking it all driven by a hunger
That never will let him give up
And with fire in his eyes he dances with thunder
Till one day his day finally comes

His heart beats fast with anticipation
Brighter lights than he's ever seen before
He's waited his whole life for the next eight seconds
And he'd do it all again for one ride in Vegas one ride in Vegas
[ guitar ]
He's an old man now four times world champion
A modern day legend every cowboy knows his name
He's all settled down on his ranch down in Texas
But he'd trade it all today for one ride in Vegas
One more ride in Vegas

SOMETIMES YOU'VE JUST GOTTA RIDE
(Craig Wiseman - Trey Bruce)
« © '98 Almo Music, ASCAP / BMG Songs, ASCAP / WB Music, ASCAP »

His name was Twister he lived in the pasture
Right down from my daddy's farm
They say there's a cowboy who once tried to ride him
Now he's mending fences with only one arm
On my way home from school somehow he always knew
Just when I'd come walking by
And he'd stand at the gate like the keeper of fate
And we both knew that one day I'd just have to ride

Now one crack of dawn well I slipped my boots on
And walked out towards that just risin' sun
My heart skipped a beat when I heard his four feet
Pounding down on the red dirt like it was a drum
He walked up against me as if to convince me
His heart was easily tamed
Then I came to staring up at the blue and the black
With a handful of mane

Well I thought he'd go one way but he went the other
I'm lucky I even survived
You can't always sit on the fence while the world passes by
Sometimes you just gotta ride

Well the years have gone by since that morning I climed
On that shadow that cut through the fields
My shoulder still hurts when the weather turns worse
Sometimes you find the strength in the wounds that don't heal
Tween horses and heartaches women and mistakes
I've been through more than I should
But I strapped a saddle across every battle
And held on as long as I could

Well I thought he'd go one way...

LIFE IS A HIGHWAY
(Tom Cochran)
« © '98 BMG Songs, ASCAP »

Life's like a road that you travel on
When there's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There's a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where the brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore
We won't hesitate break down the garden gate
There's not much time left today

Life is a highway I want to ride it all night long
If you're going my way I want to drive it all night long

Through all these cities and all these towns
It's in my blood and it's all around
I love you now like I loved you then
This is the road and these are the hands
From Tennessee to those LA nights
San Antone to Vegas lights
Knock me down get back up again
You're in my blood I'm not a lonely man

There's no load I can't hold road so rough this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in tell 'em we're survivors

Life is a highway...
Life is a highway...

There was a distance between you and I
A misunderstanding once but now we look it in the eye
[ guitar ]
There's no load I can't hold road so rough this I know
I'll be there wehn the light comes in tell 'em we're survivors

Life is a highway...
Life is a highway...

CABALLO DIABLO
(Charlie Daniels)
« © '75 Songs Of Universal, BMI »

Wild as a coastal barronca swift as the wind blowing free
With two eyes like fire brands that glow in the night
Somewhere up there he's waitin' for me
And he knows that I'm comin' for him and I just can't rest till I find
That raven black stallion that wears no man's brand
With a wild restless spirit like mine

They call him Caballo Diablo half horse half devil they say
Caballo Diablo the outlaw up a top the Sierra Madre

Two men before tried to take him they had their chance one by one
But each met his fate when those flashing black hooves
Brought death 'neath the Mexican sun
Still I can't leave I must find him you fool of a horse can't you see
Well I may be half man but the other half's devil
And you're just exactly like me

They call him Caballo Diablo...

Even the breezes stopped movin' hush now be still
Don't make a sound stay close to the ground
Cause he's waitin' just over that hill
Downwind behind him move quickly
Do it fast now he's starting to stir
Grab a handful of mane and up on to his back
And start raking him down with your spurs

But try as he will he can't shake me as over the precipice we go
To shed the life blood of a horse and a man on the rocky sierra below

They call him Caballo Diablo...

ONE ROAD MAN
(Michael Muldoon)
« © '98 Crossfield Music, ASCAP »

There's so many roads a man can take
One wrong turn can make a good heart break
When it comes to you well there'll be no mistake
I'm a one road man

There are men who like to see the sights
And they get sidetracked by these city lights
But I'm coming home to you tonight
I'm a one road man

I've known some backroads they're nothing new
They'll take me anywhere but not to you

So when there comes a time when I am gone
And you're wondering what road I'm on
Don't you worry girl because I'll soon be home
I'm a one road man I'm a one road man
