SUGAR IN THE FLOWERS
(Jimmy Hinson - Jan Deckard)
« © '70 Sue-Mirl Music, ASCAP »
It seems like only yesterday I sat and watched my Sugar play
Chasing butterflies in the summer sun
She went barefoot all day long and never thought of things wrong
But all the doctors said it was sure to come
She was my Sugar running through the flowers
My sweet little Sugar Sugar in the flowers
Her favorite place was in the flowers where she used to play for hours
After her little leg stopped running
She brushed away the bumblebees and I'd hide the tears so she wouldn't see
And guess about what was coming
She was sweet Sugar in the flowers
The autumn slowly rolled around and all the flowers stalled to the ground
And all that was green turned to golden red
Then Sugar couldn't even sit and knowing she'd never walk from it
Broke my heart to lay her in her bed
Poor little Sugar her little friends the flowers
And place them at her bed side Sugar in the flowers
Then Sugar's life like flower petals drooped and faded and then it left her
And all of Sugar's pain was at an end
So peaceful and so still she laid she seemed just like a dream away
As I placed flowers in her little folded hands
Sweet Sugar in the chapel surrounded by the flowers
A covered patch out in the churchyard Sugar beneath the flowers
Now spring is rolled round again and flowers bloom across the land
Spring showers sprinkle down onto the ground
And I know that it was a rule by God that it would be my Sugar's job
To honor all the flowers in the gardens all around
She was sweet Sugar Sugar in the flowers

PATCHES
(Barry Mann - Larry Kolber)
« © '63 Screen Gems Music, BMI »
I was born and raised down in Alabama on a farm way back up in the woods
I was so ragged my folks used to call me Patches
Papa used to tease me about it cause deep down inside he was hurt
Cause he'd done all he could
My papa was a great old man I can see him with a shovel in his hands
See education he never had he did wonders when the times got bad
The little money from the crops he raised barely paid the bills we made
For life had kick him down to the ground
When he tried to get up life would kick him back down
One day Papa called me to his dyin' bed
Put his hands on my shoulders and in his tears he said
Patches I'm depending on you son to pull the family through
My son it's all left up to you
Two days later papy passed away and I became a man that day
So I told ma I was gonna quit school but she said that was daddy's strictest rule
So every morning fore I went to school I fed the chickens and I chopped wood too
Sometimes I felt that I couldn't go on I wanted to leave just run away from home
But I would remember what my daddy said with tears in his eyes on his dyin' bed
He said Patches I'm dependin' on you son
I tried to do my best it's up to you to do the rest
Then one day a strong rain came and washed all the crops away
And at the age of thirteen I thought I was carryin' the weight
Of the whole world on my shoulders
And you know mama knew what I was goin' through
Cause every day I had to work the fields cause that's the only way we got our meals
See I was the oldest of the family and everybody else depended on me
Every night I heard my mama pray Lord give him the strength to make another day
So years have passed and all the kids are grown
The angels took mama to a brand new home
Lord knows people I shedded tears but my daddy's voice kept beatin' through my ears
Said Patches I'm depending on you son to pull the family through
My son it's all left up to you
I can still hear my daddy's sayin' to me son
Patches I'm depending on you son to pull the family through
My son it's all left up to you

DAYS OF SAND AND SHOVELS
(Bud Reneau - Doyle Marsh)
« © '68 PolyGram Int, ASCAP »
When I noticed her the first time I was outside running barefoot in the rain
She lived in the house next door her nose was pressed against the window pane
When I looked at her she smiled and showed a place where two teeth used to be
And I heard her ask her mom if she could come outside and play with me
Soon the days of sand and shovels gave way to the mysteries of life
Then I noticed she was changing and I looked at her through different eyes
We became as one and knew a love without beginning or an end
And everyday I lived with her was like a new day dawning once again
And I've loved her since every doll was Shirley Temple soda pop was still a nickel
Jam was on her fingertips milk was circkled on her lips
After many years our love grew silent and at night I heard her cry
And when she left me in the fall I knew it would be our last goodbye
I was man enough to give her everything she needed for a while
In searching for a pefect love I found that I could not give her a child
Now she lives a quiet life and is a mother of a little girl
And everytime I pass her house my thoughts go back into another world
Because I see her little girl her nose is pressed against the window pane
She thinks I'm a lonely man who wants to come inside out of the rain
And I've loved her since every doll...

LEAD ME NOT INTO TEMPTATION
(Richard Hollingsworth)
« © '70 Mike Curb Music, BMI »
There you stand with open arms before me like a fool I want to rush right in
To taste the forbidden fruit that you offer and forget the heart I'll break if I give in
Lead me not into temptation don't make me forget this wedding band
Lead me not into temptation for after all I'm weak I'm just a man
So you think it's nione to tempt another and that love is just the cheating game
But real love is never temporary so instant love it wear another name
Lead me not into temptation...
Oh after all I'm weak I'm just a man

(It's my way of loving you)
I live every day for you I breath every breath for you
So if I'm mean and make you blue it's my way of loving you
If I say that you're untrue and it breaks your heart in two
I can't help these things I do it's my way of loving you
Try to understand my love put into my heart
Can't you see I'd wanna die if we'd ever part
All my life I've loved you so there'll be times it may not show
That my love for you is true it's my way of loving you
Try to understand my love...
(It's just my way of loving you)

VISION OF BLINDNESS
(Ron Martin)
« © '70 Yonah Music, BMI »
The other day I was feeling sorry for myself
And thought life owed me more than I'd found
Then I saw a man with a little girl in the park
They were feedin' the birds gathered round
At first everything seemed okay then the cold chill skimmed over me
When I heard the little girl say daddy do the birds know I can't see
As I watched her feed the birds she seemed so gay
And she waved when she heard them fly away
Then she turned her little face up toward the sky
And said daddy can a blind bird fly
And then I held my head a little higher
And the sun seemed to shine a little brighter
There's so many worse than me cause you're one you're born to be
It took a vision of blindness to make me see
Then her daddy told her of things she couldn't see
Like the blue skies and green colored trees
Then of breeze touched her soften to her skin
And she said daddy what color is the wind
And then I held my head a little higher...
It took a vision of blindness to make me see

WHOEVER FINDS THIS I LOVE YOU
(Mac Davis)
« © '70 Screen Gems Music, BMI »
On the quiet street in the city a little old man walked alone
Shuffling through the autumn afternoon
And the autumn leaves reminded him that another summer's come and gone
He had a long lonely night ahead waiting for June
Then among the leaves near an orphan's home a piece of paper caught his eyes
And he stooped to pick it up with trembling hands
As he read the childish writing the little old man began to cry
Cause the words burned inside him like a flame
Whoever finds this I love you whoever finds this I need you
I ain't even got no one to talk to so whoever finds this I love you
[ ac.guitar ]
The old man's eyes searched the orphan's home and came to rest upon a child
With her nose pressed up against the window pane
And the old man knew he'd found a friend at last so he waved at her and smiled
And they both knew they'd spend the winter laughing at the rain
And they did spend the winter laughing at the rain talking through the fence
Exchanging little gifts they've made for each other
The old man would carve toys to the little girl
And she'd draw pictures of beautiful ladies surrounded by green trees and sunshine
And they laughed a lot
But then one day on the first of June the little girl ran to the fence
To show the old man the pictures she'd draw for him
But he wasn't there and somehow the little girl knew he's never coming back
So she went back to her little room and took a crayon and a piece of paper
And she wrote
Whoever finds this I love you...

TOO MUCH OF YOU
(Gene Hood)
« © '67 Gene Hood Music, BMI »
I got too much of you still on my mind
Too much of you still on my mind thinking of you almost all the time
Missing you since you left me behind I got too much of you still on my mind
When you left I thought maybe it was best
For we disagreed and quarreled all the time
Now I'm not so sure I should have let you go
For I got too much of you still on my mind
Too much of you...
I got too much of you still on my mind

MISSING YOU
(Dale Noe - Red Sovine)
« © '61 Unichappell Music, BMI »
Missing you can't help but wish that you
Were in my arms tonight making love to me
Kissing you that's all I want to do
It never seems just right now that we are apart
I always spend my time just writing lines to you
Can't wait for you to write saying you love me too
Missing you can't help but wish that you
Were in my arms tonight making love to me
[ guitar ]
I always spend my time...

SOUND OF AN ANGEL'S WINGS
(Conway Twitty)
« © '69 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Jenny was the girl that I once called my own
Then came the day when my Jenny left me all alone
She died neath the wheels of a midnight train trying to find the high school ring
And that's when I first heard the sound of an angel's wings
Oh how my poor heart cried the day they took her away
Then something deep inside me seemed to say
Goodbye my love remember me I'll soon be with you in eternity
And again I heard the sound of an angel's wings
[ guitar ]
I slowly walked back to my home down by the sea
And there on the shelf was a picture of my Jenny and me
And I fell to my knees as the teardrops streamed
I cried oh Lord let it all be a dream
But again I heard the sound of an angel's wings
I ran down to the sea so deep and wide I just had to be by my darling Jenny side
And I cried oh Jenny please wait for me I'll soon be with you in eternity
And again I heard the sound of an angel's wings
And the last thing I heard was the sound of my angel's wings
And I cried oh Jenny please wait for me then jumped into the angry sea
And again I heard the sound of an angel's wings
And the last thing I heard was the sound of my angel's wings
