FORT WORTH DALLAS OR HOUSTON

(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '63 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
In Fort Worth Dallas or Houston or in San Antone
There's a little girl waitin' for me and she's all alone
In Beamount Lubbock or Austin or in El Paso
She waits for me I know
I don't care if she is pretty or sexy
As long as she comes from deep in the heart of Texas
Somewhere round about Fort Worth Dallas or Houston or ol' El Paso
She waits for me I know
[ guitar ] In Fort Worth Dallas or Houston or in Abilene
Down there she's waitin' the girl of my dreams
In Wichita Falls or Waco or San Angelo
She waits for me I know
Don't even know what her name is just know she's somewhere down in Texas
Somewhere round about Fort Worth Dallas or Houston or ol' El Paso
She waits for me I know she waits for me I know

ROSE AND A BABY RUTH

(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '56 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
We had a quarrel a teenage quarrel now I'm as blue as I know how to be
I can't call you on the phone I can't even see you at your home
So I'm sending you this present just to prove I was telling the truth
Dear I believe you won't laugh when you receive this rose and a Baby Ruth
[ guitar ] I could have sent you an orchid of some kind
But that's all I had in my jeans at the time
But when we grow up someday I'll show up just to prove I was telling the truth
I'll kiss you too then I'll hand to you this rose and a Baby Ruth
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

IF YOU WANT ME TO

(Roger Miller)
« © '61 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Well thunder roll and lighting flashing
Right through the middle of it I'll go dashing
Goes it show how far I'll go for you
If you want me to

Hurricane winds blow grief and sorrow
But I'd run through one tomorrow
Goes it show how far I'll go for you
If you want me to

There's no limit to but all I would do for you
Anything you ask of me I'm makin' my destiny

Well thunder roll and lighting flashing...
[ guitar ] There's no limit to but all I would do for you
Anything you ask of me I'm makin' my destiny

Well thunder roll and lighting flashing...
Goes it show how far I'll go for you if you want me to

LITTLE GRAVE

(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '63 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
One winter's Eve I went a walking out beyond the city gate
For to fetch a fresh young pheasant for my darling's dinner plate

It was snowing oh so quietly and the woods were wide and soft
Just the sound of snowflakes falling and the footsteps as I walked

There I saw a fresh young pheasant and I shot and killed him there
And I heard a distant church bell as the bird fell from the air

As I held his dying body the strangest thought came over me
God had made this little body that I had killed so faultlessly

All the woods were dark and shadowed with the light the cold stars gave
I sent a prayer to God in heaven and covered up the little grave
And covered up the little grave

THERE'S MORE PRETTY GIRLS THAN ONE

(Alton Delmore - Arthur Smith)
« © '61 Vidor Publications, BMI »

(There's more pretty girls than one)

I am a rambling man I just ramble this world around
I've always been a roubler boy since my girl turned me down

There's more pretty girls than one there's more pretty girls than one
Every town I ramble around there's more pretty girls than one

Now listen to me all you ramblers let me tell you what you'd do
Don't fall in love with a pretty little girl unless you know she's true

There's more pretty girls than one...

TRUCK DRIVIN' MAN

(Terry Fell)
« © '62 Unichappell Music, BMI »
(I'm a truck drivin' man)
Well I stopped at a road house in Texas
A little place called Hamburger Dan's
Heard that old jukebox start playing
Tune called the Truck Drivin' Man

The waitress then brought me up some coffee
I thanked her then called her back again
I said that old song sure does fit me
Cause I'm a truck drivin' man

Pour me another cup of coffee
For it is the best in the land
I put a nickel in the jukebox
And play the Truck Drivin' Man
[ guitar - steel ] Well I climbed back aboard my old semi
And then like a flash I was gone
I got them old truck wheels a rolling
Now I'm on my way to San Antone

When I get my call up to glory
They'll take me away from this land
I'll head this old truck up to heaven
Cause I'm a truck drivin' man

Pour me another cup of coffee...
And play the Truck Drivin' Man

LINDA WITH THE LONELY EYES

(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '62 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
I've got a funny feeling this mornin' on my paper out
Cause all the curtains and blinds were missin' from my Linda's house
And in the screen I found the note written in Linda's lonely way
Saying goodbye darling stop the paper we'd moved away

Oh oh oh goodbye you strange little girl
Oh goodbye it's a strange strange world
Oh goodbye my Linda with the lonely eyes
Oh oh oh goodbye I don't know why oh goodbye why you should cry
Oh goodbye Linda with the lonely eyes

As soon as Linda and her folks moved in to town we become sweethearts
Although she warned me many a time someday we would have to part
She said her daddy was some kinda secret agent with the FBI
But I didn't understand till now why Linda had those lonely eyes

Oh oh oh goodbye you strange little girl...

My mama she done told me papa done told me too
Son that gal you're foolin' with she ain't no good for you
But that's all right that's all right
That's all right mama anyway you do
[ guitar ] That's all right my mama guess I'm not too smart
If I was I'll leave you before you break my heart
But that's all right that's all right
That's all right mama anyway you do

Leavin' this town tomorrow leavin' town for sure
Then you won't be bothered with me hangin' round your door

KENTUCKY

(Karl Davis)
« © '42 Songs Of Universal, BMI »
Kentucky you are the dearest land outside of heaven to me
Kentucky your laurels and your redbud trees
When I die I want to rest opon your graceful mountain so high
Kentucky where God will look for me
[ guitar ] Kentucky I miss the young folks singing in the silvery moonlight
Kentucky I miss the hound dogs chasing coons
I know that my mother dad and sweetheart all are waiting for me
Kentucky I will be coming soon

CANDY APPLE RED

(Houston Turner)
« © '64 Ashna Music, BMI »
He came speeding through the town each day at sundown
And his car was painted candy apple red
He was coming there to see the sheriff's daughter
And the sheriff didn't know it so they said

Time and time again the sheriff tried to catch him
But he always speeded up and got away
The old county jail stood patiently awaiting
And the sheriff vowed he'd put him there some day

Well there goes candy apple red that's what the people said
If he doesn't slow it down a bit he's gonna end up dead
And the sheriff's daughter said she'd rather end up dead
Than to live without her candy apple red

So the sheriff built a barricade to catch him
And he sat there at the limits of the town
But the sheriff's daughter had already met him
And had married him before the sun went down

When the sheriff saw the coming down the highway
He saw they couldn't stop and so he held his breath
As they crashed the barricade the car exploded
And the boy and girl went to a flaming death

Well there goes candy apple red that's what the people said
He didn't slow it down at all and he lies there dead
Now the sheriff bowed his head his daughter laied there dead
There in the arms of candy apple red

FAIR AND TENDER LADIES

(Maybelle Carter)
« © '60 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Come all ye fair and tender ladies take warning how you court young men
They're like a star on a summer morning they first appear and then they're gone
They'll tell to you some loving story and make you think they love you so well
Away they'll go and court some other and leave you there in grief to dwell
[ guitar ] Oh love is handsome love is charming and love is pretty while it's new
But love grows cold as love goes old and fades away like morning dew
And fades away like morning dew
