THERE GOES MY EVERYTHING

(Dallas Frazier) « © '65 Husky Music, BMI / Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
There goes my reason for living there goes my everything

I hear footsteps slowly walking as they gently walk across a lonely floor
And a voice is softly saying darling this will be goodbye forever more

There goes my reason for living there goes the one of my dreams
There goes my only possesion there goes my everything
[ piano ] As my mem'ry turns back the pages
I can see the happy years we've had before
Now the love that kept this old heart beating
Has been shattered by the closing of a door

There goes my reason for living...
There goes my everything

CALIFORNIA COTTONFIELDS

(Dallas Frazier - Earl Montgomery) « © '69 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI / Glad Music, BMI / Pappy Daily Music, BMI »
My driftin' mem'ry goes back to the spring of '43
When I was just a child in mama's arms
My daddy plowed the ground and prayed that some day we could leave
This run down mortaged Oklahoma farm

Then one night I heard my daddy sayin' to my mama
That he finally saved enough for us to go
California was his dream a paradise wall he had seen
Pictures in magazines that told him so

California cottonfields
Where labor camps were full of worried men with broken dreams
California cottonfields was as close to wealth as daddy ever came
[ rh.guitar ] Almost everything we had was sowed or left behind
From daddy's plow and the fruit that mama canned
Some folks came to say farewell and see what all we had to sell
But some just came to shake my daddy's hand

The Model A was loaded down and California bound
And a change of luck was just four days away
But the only change that I remember seeing for my daddy
Was when his dark hair had turned to silver gray

California cottonfields...
California cottonfields...

ALL I HAVE TO OFFER YOU IS ME

(Dallas Frazier - Arthur Leo Owens) « © '69 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI / Unichappell Music, BMI »
Before you take another step there's something you should know
About the years ahead and how they'll be
You'll be living in a world where roses hardly ever grow
Cause all I have to offer you is me

There'll be no mansions waiting on the hill with crystal chandeliers
And there'll be no fancy clothes for you to wear
Everything I have is standing here in front of you to see
All I have to offer you is me
[ steel ] Sweetheart I'll give you all my love in every way I can
But make sure that's what you want while you're still free
The only gold I have for you is in this wedding band
Cause all I have to offer you is me

There'll be no mansions waiting on the hill...
All I have to offer you is me

LORD IS THAT ME

(Dallas Frazier - Sanger D. Shafer) « © '70 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
I can see a long line of cars with their headlights on
I can see kinfolks cryin' cause somebody's gone
Then they gather around as it let the sinner men down
And I can see an old preacher prayin' with a frown

Lord is that me tell about this vision I see
Lord is that me if it is have mercy Lord have mercy on me

I can see an old grey haired woman say goodbye to her son
I can see a young widow bowed with a child in her arms
They stay as long as they should showin' what respect that they could
But everybody there was afraid to say something good

Lord is that me...

I can see a long line of cars quickly drive away
I can see an old woman lingerin' behind by the grave
Her wrinkled face is streamin' tears as she stands there trembe in fear
Cause only a chosen few can we took there

Lord is that me...
I can see a long line of cars with their headlights on

IF MY HEART HAD WINDOWS

(Dallas Frazier) « © '67 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI / Glad Music, BMI / Pappy Daily Music, BMI »
If my heart had windows you'd see a heart full of love just for you

A tear may appear when I hold you near but that's for the sweet things you do
If my heart had windows you'd see a heart full of love just for you

By your side I'll stay till we're old and gray reminiscin' young moments we knew
If my heart had windows you'd see a heart full of love just for you
[ piano ] A thief couldn't steal the joy that I feel heaven for me has come true
If my heart had windows you'd see a heart full of love just for you
If my heart had windows you'd see a heart full of love just for you

SON OF HICKORY HOLLER'S TRAMP

(Dallas Frazier) « © '67 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Oh the path was deep and wide from footsteps leading to our cabin
Above the door there burned a scarlet lamp
And late at night a hand would knock and there would stand a stranger
Yes I'm the son of Hickory Holler's tramp

Well the corn was dry the weeds were high when daddy took to drinking
Then him and Lucy Walker they took up and they ran away
Mama cried a tear and then she promised fourteen children
I swear you'll never see a hungry day

When mama sacrificed her pride the neighbors started talkin'
But I was much too young to understand the things they said
Well the things that mattered most of all was mama's chicken dumplings
And the goodnight kiss before we went to bed

Oh the path was deep and wide...
[ guitar ] When daddy left then destitution came upon our family
Not one neighbor volunteered to lend us a helping hand
So just let them gossip all they want she loved us and she raised us
The proof is standing here in this full grown man

Last summer mama passed away and left the ones who loved her
Each and every one is more than grateful for their birth
Each Sunday she receives a big bouquet of fourteen roses
And the card that reads the greatest mom on earth

Well I said that the path was deep and wide...
Yes I'm the son of Hickory Holler's tramp

SWEETHEART DON'T THROW YOURSELF AWAY

(Dallas Frazier) « © '70 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Love is like a young tree that lives or dies and then becomes a mem'ry of tragedy
Soon you'll be far away and free forever gone but you'll always be a part of me
Tomorrow you'll be leaving my world but I'll keep loving the girl who's with me today
Sweetheart don't throw yourself away

Sweetheart don't throw yourself away
Oh let your pride be led astray by stranger called shame
Sweetheart I know the loneliness have magnified your emptiness
But don't let it disgrace your name I mean what I say
Sweetheart don't throw yourself away

Sweetheart don't throw yourself away...

(I'M SO) AFRAID OF LOSING YOU AGAIN

(Dallas Frazier - Arthur Leo Owens) « © '69 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI / Unichappell Music, BMI »
Sometimes I want to throw my arms around you
Then I tremble at the thought of giving in
Because I know how much it cost to love you
And I'm so afraid of losing you again

Being close to you revives the sorrow
That wakes me up and tells me I can't win
I'd love to wake up in your arms tomorrow
But I'm so afraid of losing you again
[ steel ] If heaven word to hear my heart's confession
Wanting you would be my greatest sin
But I'm glad that you're no longer my possession
Cause I'm so afraid of losing you again

Being close to you revives the sorrow...
Yes I'm so afraid of losing you again

I JUST GOT TIRED OF BEING POOR

(Dallas Frazier) « © '70 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
My life of trouble goes back to the candy
That I stole from Jesse Walker's country store
A penny seperated me from chosen sights with honesty
I just got tired of being poor

I remember Willie Jackson laughing
And talking bout the ragged clothes I wore
That's when Willie gotta taste of all my nuckles in his face
I just got tired of being poor

Some folks eat their supper of the silver
And the only world they ever know is wealth
But I can't blame the rich folks for these big tall walls
This prison is the doin's of myself

Freedom ran away from me at twenty-three
I broke the lock on one too many doors
My hungry hands would not behate
when they got close to things they create
I just got tired of being poor

Some folks eat their supper of the silver...
I just got tired of being poor

WILL YOU VISIT ME ON SUNDAYS

(Dallas Frazier) « © '67 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Just outside these prison bars the hanging tree is waitin'
At sunrise I'll meet darkness and death will say hello
Darling touch your lips to mine and tell me that you love me
And promise me again before you go

Will you visit me on Sundays will you bring me pretty flowers
Will your big blue eyes be misty will you brush away a tear
The grave is filled with silence but if a sleeping man could hear
Darling would I hear your footsteps up there
[ strings ] Promise me that time won't seperate me from your mem'ry
That you'll remember me until the days of silver hair
If not for you I know I'd lose my mind before the morning
Hold me close and tell me that you still care

Will you visit me on Sundays...
Will you visit me on Sundays...

SHE WANTS TO BE GOOD

(Dallas Frazier) « © '70 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Last night she let the strong red wine carry her away
She smoked up her old sunshine as if it still shined every day
Her hand reached out and touched my face in the shame Lord from my eyes
She told me I had helped her be her serving proof alive
Most of us have been with her in her hours of been days
But none of us deserved to see or touched her pillow case
Among the men who's helped her sin I'll admit that I been wrong
We'd better search our hurts before we throw another stone
She wants to be good but she can't because of men like you and me
The restless love of wondering men is the only hand she's had
She wants to be good but she can't she's still lonely and much too weak
She carries the shame of a long listened names to talk her to be bad
She wants to be good and she would and she could
I'm someone that would be good to her
