Recorded in the wake of Connie Francis's first big hit, "Who's Sorry Now," this debut album found her singing a set of songs frequently arranged in a similar style, as sultry, rhythmic ballads. Francis had a big, expressive voice, even at age 19, but she also was a more versatile stylist than she was allowed to show here, and the album failed to chart.

WHO'S SORRY NOW
(Ted Snyder - Bert Kalmar - Harry Ruby)
« © '35 Mills Music, ASCAP / Ted Snyder Music, ASCAP / Harry Ruby Music, ASCAP »
Who's sorry now who's sorry now
Whose heart is aching for breaking each vow
Who's sad and blue who's crying too
Just like I cried over you
Right to the end just like a friend
I tried to warn you somehow
You had your way now you must pay
I'm glad that you're sorry now
Right to the end just like a friend...

I'M BEGINNING TO SEE THE LIGHTS
(Jimmy Hodges - Harry James - Edward Ellington - Don George)
« © '58 Anne Rachel Music, ASCAP / Famous Music, ASCAP / Ricki Music, ASCAP »
I never cared much for moonlit skies
I never wink back at fireflies
But now that the stars are in your eyes
I'm beginning to see the lights
I never went in for afterglow
Or candlelight on the mistletoe
But now when you turn the lamp down low
I'm beginning to see the lights
Used to ramble through the park
Shadowboxing in the dark
Then you came and caused a spark
That's a four-alarm fire now
I never made love by lantern-shine
I never saw rainbows in my wine
But now that your lips are burning mine
I'm beginning to see the lights
[ horns ]
Used to ramble through the park...
I never made love by lantern-shine...
I'm beginning to see the lights
I'm beginning to see the lights

I CRIED FOR YOU
(Arthur Freed - Gus Arnheim - Abe Lyman)
« © '23 Miller Catalog, ASCAP »
I cried for you now it's your turn to cry over me
Every road has a turning that's one thing you're learning
I cried for you what a fool I used to be
Now I found two eyes just a little bit bluer
I found the heart just a little bit truer
I cried for you now it's your turn to cry over me
I cried for you what a fool I used to be...

YOU ALWAYS HURT THE ONE YOU LOVE
(Doris Fisher - Allan Roberts)
« © '53 Universal Music, ASCAP / Allan Roberts Music, ASCAP »
You always hurt the one you love
The one you shouldn't turn at all
You always take the sweetest rose
And crash it till the petals fall
You always break the kindest heart
With the hasty word you can recall
So if I broke your heart last night
It's because I love you most of all
You always break the kindest heart
With the hasty word you can even recall
So if I broke your heart last night
It's because I love you most of all

I'LL GET BY
(Roy Turk - Fred E. Ahlert)
« © '57 Cromwell Music, ASCAP / Pencil Mark Music, ASCAP / Fred Ahlert Music, ASCAP »
I've neither wealth nor power but now that you've said you're mine
Wherever I go whatever I do I'll be doing fine
I'll be fine as long as I have you
Though there'll be rain and darkness too
I won't complain I'll see it through
Poverty may come to me that's true
But what can I say I'll get by as long as I have you
Poverty may come to me that's true
But what can I say I'll get by as long as I have you

HEARTACHES
(Al Hoffman - John Klenner)
« © '56 MCA Music, ASCAP »
Heartaches heartaches
My loving you meant only heartaches
Your kiss was such a sacred thing to me
I can't believe it's just a burning memory
Heartaches heartaches
What does it matter how my heart breaks
I should be happy with someone new
But my heart aches for you
(Heartaches heartaches
My loving you meant only heartaches)
Your kiss was such a sacred thing to me
I can't believe it's just a burning memory
Heartaches heartaches...

(Nobody's baby nobody's baby)
I'm nobody's baby I wonder why
Each night and day I pray the Lord up above
Please send me down somebody to love (nobody's baby)
But nobody wants me I'm blue somehow
Oh someone hear my plea and take a chance with me
Because I'm nobody's baby now
(She's nobody's baby I wonder why
Each night and day she prays the Lord up above)
Oh please send me down somebody to love (nobody's baby)
Nobody wants me I'm blue somehow
Oh someone hear my plea and take a chance with me
Because I'm nobody's baby nobody's baby nobody's baby now

MY MELANCHOLY BABY
(George A. Norton - Ernie Burnett - Maybelle E. Watson)
« © '44 Shapiro-Bernstein Co, ASCAP / Jerry Vogel Music, ASCAP »
Come sweetheart mine don't sit and pine
Tell me of the cares that make you feel so blue
What have I done answer me hon
Have I ever said an unkind word to you
My love is true and just for you
I do almost anything at anytime
Dear when you sigh or when you cry
Something seems to grip this very heart of mine
Come to me my melancholy baby
Cuddle up and don't feel blue
All your fears are foolish fancy maybe
You know dear that I'm in love with you
Every cloud must have a silver lining
Wait until that sun shines through
Smile my honey dear while I kiss away each tear
Or else I shall be melancholy too
[ horns ]
Smile my honey dear while I kiss away each tear
Or else I shall be melancholy too

IT'S THE TALK OF THE TOWN
(Jay Livingston - Marty Symes - Al Neiburg)
« © '50 Hallmark Music, ASCAP / Music Sales, ASCAP »
I can't show my face can't go anyplace
People stop and stare it's so hard to bear
Everybody knows you left me it's the talk of the town
Everytime we meet my heart skips a beat
We don't stop to speak know it's just a week
Everybody knows you left me it's the talk of the town
We send our invitations to friends and relations
Annoncing our wedding day
Friends and relations gave congratulations
How can you face them what can you say
Let's make up sweetheart we can't stay apart
Don't let foolish pride keep you from my side
How can love like ours be ended it's the talk of the town
Let's make up sweetheart...

IF I HAD YOU
(Ted Shapiro - Jimmy Campbell - Red Connelly)
« © '57 Robbins Catalog, ASCAP / Campbell-Connelly Music, ASCAP »
I could show the world how to smile I could be glad all of the while
I could change the gray skies to blue if I had you
I could leave the old days behind leave all my friends I wouldn't mind
I could start my life all anew if I had you
I could climb the snow-capped mountain sail the mighty ocean wide
I could cross the burning desert if I had you by my side
I could be a queen on a crown humble or poor rich or renowned
There is nothing I couldn't do if I had you
I could climb the snow-capped mountain...

HOW DEEP IS THE OCEAN (HOW HIGH IS THE SKY)
(Irving Berlin)
« © '55 Irving Berlin Music, ASCAP »
How much do I love you I'll tell you no lie
How deep is the ocean how high is the sky
How many times a day do I think of you
How many roses are sprinkled with a dew
How far I'd travel to be where you are
How far is the journey from here to the stars
And if I ever lost you how much would I cry
How deep is the ocean how high is the sky
[ strings ]
How many times a day do I think of you
How many roses are sprinkled with dew
How far I'd travel to be where you are...
