While cutting rock & roll singles for the teenage market, 20-year-old Connie Francis switched gears on her second album, recording a set of standards backed by strings and intended for the adult market. Her assurance was demonstrated on such uptempo songs as "Come Rain or Come Shine," on which she sang authoritatively, and she was just as effective on ballads like "Time After Time." Unfortunately, no real attempt was made to market her as a singer of classic pop at this point, and The Exciting Connie Francis went unnoticed.

COME RAIN OR COME SHINE
(Johnny Mercer - Harold Arlen)
« © '46 Chappell & Co, ASCAP / SA Music, ASCAP »

Let it storm let it thunder let the whole world go under
But I'm gonna love you like nobody's loved you come rain or come shine
High as a mounztain deep as a river come rain or come shine

I guess when you met me it was just one of those things
But don't ever mad me cause I'm gonna be true if you let me

You're gonna love me like nobody's loved you come rain or come shine
I'd be together and happy together but I'm gonna be fine
Days may be cloudy or sunny and we may run out of money
But I'm with you baby come rain or come shine
[ horns ]
I guess when you met me it was just one of those things
But don't ever mad me cause I'm gonna be true if you let me

You're gonna love me like nobody's loved you...
You're gonna be mine come rain or come shine

HALLELUJAH I LOVE HIM SO
(Ray Charles)
« © '56 Unichappell Music, BMI »

Let me tell you bout a boy I know he's my baby and he lives next door
Every morning fore the sun comes up he brings my coffee in my favorite cup
That's why I know yeah I know now hallelujah I just love him so

When I'm in trouble and I have no friends I know he'll go with me untill the end
Everybody asks me how I know I smile at them and say he told me so
That's why I know yeah I know now hallelujah I just love him so

Now if I call him on the telephone and tell him that I'm all alone
By the time I count from one to four I hear him on my door

In the evening when the sun goes down when there is nobody else around
He kisses me and he holds me tight and tells me baby everything's all right
That's why I know yeah I know now hallelujah I just love him so

Let me tell you bout a boy I know...
When I'm in trouble and I have no friends...
Now if I call him on the telephone...
In the evening when the sun goes down..

BY MYSELF
(Howard Dietz - Arthur Schwartz)
« © '59 Chappell & Co, ASCAP / Arthur Schwartz Music, ASCAP »

I'll go my way by myself here's how that comedy ends
I have to deny myself love and laughter and friends
With clouds in the sky above have put the blocks on my fun
I'll try to fly up above for my place in the sun
I'll face the unknown I'll build the world of my own
No one know that I denied myself I found myself alone
[ horns ]
I'll face the unknown I'll build the world of my own
No one know that I denied myself I found myself alone
I'll go my way by myself here's how that comedy ends
I have to deny myself love and laughter and friends

ROCK-A-BYE YOUR BABY WITH A DIXIE MELODY
(Joe Young - Sam M. Lewis - Jean Schwartz)
« © '59 Mills Music, ASCAP / MPL Music, ASCAP / Wrock Corp, ASCAP »

Rock-a-bye your baby with a Dixie melody
When you croon croon a tune from the heart of Dixie
Just hang your cradle mammy mine
Right on that Mason Dixon Line
And swing it from Virginia to Tennessee
With all the love that's in you

Weep no more my lady sing that song for me
Sing it soft and low just as though you had me on your knee
A million baby kisses I'll deliver
The minute that you sing that Swanee River
Rock-a-bye your rock-a-bye baby with the Dixie melody

Weep no more my lady sing that song for me...

THERE WILL NEVER BE ANOTHER YOU
(Mack Gordon - Harry Warren)
« © '59 Four Jays Music, ASCAP / Mattsam Music, ASCAP / Morley Music, ASCAP »

There will be many other nights like this
And I'll be standing here with someone new
There'll be other songs to sing another fall another spring
But there will never be another you

There'll be other lips that I may kiss
But they won't thrill me like yours used to do
Yes I may dream a million dreams but how can they come true
If there will never ever be another you
[ horns ]
There'll be other songs to sing another fall another spring
But there will never be another you

There'll be other lips that I may kiss...

SONG IS ENDED (BUT THE MELODY LINGERS ON)
(Irving Berlin)
« © '27 Irving Berlin Music, ASCAP »

The song is ended but the melody lingers on
You and the song are gone but the melody lingers on
The night was splended and the melody seemed to say
Summer will pass away take your happiness while you may

There neath the light of the moon
We sang a love song that ended too soon
The moon descended and I found with the break of dawn
You and the song had gone but the melody lingers on

The song is ended...
There neath the light of the moon...

TIME AFTER TIME
(Robert A. Hayman - Cynthia Lauper)
« © '59 Dub Notes, ASCAP / WB Music, ASCAP / Rella Music, BMI »

Time after time I tell myself that I'm
So lucky to be loving you
So lucky to be the one you run to see
In the evening when the day is through

I only know what I know the passing years will show
You've kept my love so young so new
And time after time you'll hear me say that I'm
So lucky to be loving you

I only know what I know...

HOLD ME THRILL ME KISS ME
(Harry Noble)
« © '58 Mills Music, ASCAP »

Hold me hold me never let me go
Until you told me told me what I want to know
And then just hold me hold me make me tell you I'm in love with you

Thrill me thrill me walk me down the lane
Where shadows will be will be hiding lovers just the same
As will be will be when you make me tell you I love you

They tell me be sensible with your new love
Don't be fool thinking this is the last you'll find
But they never stood in the dark with you love
When you take me in your arms and drive me slowly out of my mind

Kiss me kiss me when you do I know
That you will miss me miss me if we ever say I do
So kiss me kiss me make me tell you I'm in love with you

They tell me be sensible with your new love...
Kiss me kiss me when you do I know...

THAT'S ALL
(Bob Haymes - Alan Brandt)
« © '58 Mixed Bag Music, BMI / Warner-Tamerlane Publishing, BMI »

I can only give you love that lasts forever
And a promise to be near each time you call
And the only heart I own for you and you alone
That's all that's all

I can only give you country walks in springtime
And a hand to hold when leaves begin to fall
And a love whose burning light will warm the winter night
That's all that's all

There are those I am sure have told you
They would give you the world for a toy
All I have are these arms to enfold you
And a love time won't destroy

If you're wondering what I'm asking in return dear
You'll be glad to know that my demands are small
Say it's me that you'll adore for now and evermore
That's all that's all
[ strings ]
All I have are these arms to enfold you
And a love time won't destroy

If you're wondering what I'm asking in return dear...

BLAME IT ON MY YOUTH
(Edward Heyman - Oscar Levant)
« © '59 PolyGram Int, ASCAP / Oscar Levant Music, ASCAP »

If I expected love when first we kissed blame it on my youth
If only just for you I did exist blame it on my youth
I believed in everything like a child of three
You meant more than anything you meant all the world to me

If you were on my mind all night and day blame it on my youth
If I forgot to eat and sleep and pray blame it on my youth
If I cried a little bit when first I learned the truth
Don't blame it on my heart blame it on my youth

If I cried a little bit when first I learned the truth
Don't blame it on my heart blame it on my youth

MELANCHOLY SERENADE
(Jackie Gleason - Duke Enston)
« © '59 Songsmith Co, ASCAP »

Melancholy serenade every time I hear it played
Right out of space your haunting face appears

There were other serenades broken promises we made
Why must I pay day after day with tears

Alone in my room I watch the ghost of you
Alone in the gloom once more I'm close to you

Melancholy serenade as the music starts to fade
I feel your kiss and then you disappear
[ strings ]
Alone in the gloom once more I'm close to you

Melancholy serenade as the music starts to fade
I feel your kiss and then you disappear
