Meet "The Hanktum"...Singing his own songs. The purpose of these few words is to introduce to you The Hanktum - the nickname lovingly pinned on Nashville's man about town, Hank Cochran. A man of remarkable ability, his many talents range from song writing and singing (he wrote all the songs he sings in this album, I Fall To Pieces, He's Got You, A Little Bitty Tear, etc and many others not included) to scouting new talent and handling the Production Department at one of Nashville's leading publishing companies, Pamper Music, Inc. If there is one word to explain Hank's tremendous success, it almost has to be "sincerity". It shows in everything Hank does: it pours from his original songs and it stands out above all else in his singing. Sincerity - it's there, too, when you meet him on the street. When The Hanktum is happy, he is the happiest man in the world, and he wants you to know about it. When he is sad, he appears to have been buried under the greatest avalanche of sorrow that the world has ever known. Hank Cochran has come a long way from his home on the farm in Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee, and recognition as one of the greatest new talent discoveries in recent times. But like most of us in the business, Hank has a vivid memory of the many miles in-between, and he can remember each painful though educational step. Sincerity, combined with the ability to project soul and truth into everything that he does, is the reason for his success as well as the reason why all who know him love him. I am sure that you will, too. May I present to you, now my friend The Hanktum.

I'D FIGHT THE WORLD

(Hank Cochran - Joe Allison) « © '62 Tree Publishing, BMI »
I don't care what anybody thinks of me
My love will last much longer than their thoughts of me
I only know I need you that's all I know
And I'd fight the world before I'd ever let go go

I'd gladly beg I'd steal I'd borrow
I'd turn my back on everyone I know
I'd do these things with no fear of tomorrow
I'd fight the world before I'd let go go
[ steel ] I know they're talkin' about me lovin' you the way I do
And they're sayin' no one no one should love anyone not the way that I love you
But I don't care if the world stops and the sun explodes or the moon turns to ashes
I'd stand and fight the world before I'd let you go

I'd gladly beg I'd steal or I'd borrow...

LITTLE BITTY TEAR

(Hank Cochran) « © '60 Tree Publishing, BMI »
When you said you were leaving tomorrow that today was our last day
I said there'd be no sorrow that I'd laugh when you walked away

But a little bitty tear let me down spoiled my act as a clown
I had it made up not to make a frown but a little bitty tear let me down

I said I'd laugh when you left me full of funnies as you went out the door
That I'd have another was waiting I'd wave goodbye as you go

But a little bitty tear let me down...
[ guitar - steel ] Everything went like I planned it and I really put on quite a show
In my heart I felt I could stand it till she walked with a grip through the door

But a little bitty tear let me down...
A little bitty tear let me down a little bitty tear let me down

YOU COMB HER HAIR

(Harlan Howard - Hank Cochran) « © '63 Tree Publishing, BMI »
I know that you're wondering who I dream about
And if I've met someone who thrills me so
Yes I finally met a girl who turns me inside out
I'll tell you about her for you ought to know

You comb her hair every morning and make sure she dresses just right
You comb her hair every morning and put her to bed every night
[ steel ] When she's around me sometimes I can hardly speak
I stammer and I act just like a fool
And just to hold her hand in mine makes me feel weak
You know her honey don't you know it's you

You comb her hair...

GO ON HOME

(Hank Cochran) « © '62 Tree Publishing, BMI »
(Go on home you don't belong here with me)

You're watching your watch and I know what's on your mind
There's someone home waiting and you're away over time
What should be so right is wrong as can be
Go on home you don't belong here with me

I love you I love you I love only you
But the one home waiting honey he loves you too
He's watching and wondering where can you be
Go on home you don't belong here with me

Go on home you don't belong here with me
Though I want you and I need you desperately
But to hide in the darkness is wrong as can be
Go on home you don't belong here with me
Go on home you don't belong here with me (go on home)

SAME OLD HURT

(Hank Cochran) « © '63 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Got a new house with new lumber even got a new phone number
Did it all since we broke apart
Got acquinted with new faces started going to new places
But I got that same old hurt in my heart

Got a new suit for next Sunday got a new job startin' Monday
Got everybody thinkin' I am a half smart
Got a new vocabulary even got a new canary
But I got that same old hurt in my heart

No matter what I change same old hurt stays the same
Always there reminding me that we're apart
Got a new job with more money got a new girl that calls me honey
But I got that same old hurt in my heart

I FALL TO PIECES

(Harlan Howard - Hank Cochran) « © '60 Tree Publishing, BMI »
I fall to pieces each time I see you again
I fall to pieces how can I be just your friend
You want me to act like we've never kissed
You want me to forget pretend we've never met
And I've tried oh I've tried but I haven't yet
You walk by and I fall to pieces

I fall to pieces each time someone speaks your name
I fall to pieces time only adds to the flame
You tell me to find someone to love
Someone who'll love me too the way you used to do
But each time I go out with someone new
You walk by and I fall to pieces you walk by and I fall to pieces

JUST FOR THE RECORD

(Hank Cochran) « © '67 Tree Publishing, BMI »
I know our love is over you've made it plain to see
But just for the record did you ever love me
I hope that you'll be happy I'm gonna try to be
But just for the record would you tell me did you ever love me
Or was I just fillin' in while you waited for love to come by
Or did you once love me if you did why did it die
This is the last time I'll call you from this moment on you're free
But just for the record would you tell me did you ever love me
Did you ever love me (love me)

FUNNY WAY OF LAUGHIN'

(Hank Cochran) « © '62 Tree Publishing, BMI »
If you see me with a great big smile at some party where the fun runs wild
If tears start to flow and I fall apart please don't think you broke my heart

It's just my funny way of laughin' yes my funny way of laughin'
Your leaving didn't bother me
It's just my funny way of laughin' yes my funny way of laughin'
I'm really happy as can be

If we meet on the street and a little bitty tear rolls down my cheek
Please don't think it's because I'm blue or that I'm still in love with you

It's just my funny way of laughin'...

Remember the day you left our place and how the tears rolled down my face
It wasn't because you were leavin' me I was happy because you were pleasin' me

It's just my funny way of laughin'...

MAKE THE WORLD GO AWAY

(Hank Cochran) « © '63 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Make the world go away and get it off my shoulder
(Say the things you used to say) and make the world go away

Do you remember when you loved me before the world took me astray
If you do then forgive me and make the world go away
Make the world go away please get it off my shoulder
(Say the things you used to say) and make the world go away

I'm sorry if I hurt you I'll make it up day by day
Just say you love me like you used to and make the world go away
Make the world go away oh get it off my shoulder
(Say the things you used to say) and make the world go away

WHY CAN'T SHE BE YOU

(Hank Cochran) « © '62 Tree Publishing, BMI »
I take her to the places you and I used to go
She tells me over and over that she loves me so
She gives me love like I never got from you
She loves me too her love is true why can't she be you

A day don't go that she don't show me I'm on her mind
And I'm lucky to have such a girl I hear it all the time
Se does all the things that you would never do
She loves me too her love is true why can't she be you

But se's not the one who dominates my mind and soul
And I should love her so cause she loves me I know but her kises leave me cold

She takes my flowers calls on the hour to prove her love
And my friends say when she's around I'm all she speaks of
She does all the things that you would never do
She loves me too her love is true why can't she be you

TEARS BROKE OUT ON ME

(Hank Cochran) « © '65 Tree Publishing, BMI »
I haven't been well in the last two days not since my baby up and walked away
Packed her things and just said so long that I won't be back this time I'm gone

That's when the tears broke out on me and I came down with the miseries
A fever of blues have gotta hundred and three
And that's when the tears broke out on me
[ guitar ] I never was sick up till then but I've got a feeling this would do me in
Everytime I think about the thing she said I get real sick and I have to go to bed

And that's when the tears broke out on me...
[ guitar ] They say I'll live well I hope so cause right about now I don't know
I see your face or hear your name from a friend and it's got all over again

And that's when the tears break out on me...
That's when the tears break out on me that's when the tears break out on me
That's when the tears break out on me

HE'S GOT YOU

(Hank Cochran) « © '61 Tree Publishing, BMI »
I've got your picture that you gave to me
And it's signed with love just like it used to be
The only thing different the only thing new
I've got your picture he's with you

I've got the records that we used to share
And they sound the same as when you were here
The only thing different the only thing new
I've got your records he's got you

I've got your mem'ry or has it got me
I really don't know but I know it won't let me be
I've got your class ring oh that proved you'd care
And it still looks the same as when you gave it dear
The only thing different the only thing new
I've got these things and he's with you
