Following the success of Jim Ed Brown's biggest solo hit, "Morning," in 1970, he entered the Top 15 again a few months later with "Angel's Sunday," which brandishes a surprising vocal rhythm as a hook. Brown's albums are usually good, but Angel's Sunday is a little better than average thanks to the strong material and predominantly female background vocals, which re-create in spots the sound of his former trio, the Browns. Production touches add variety to what is mostly a platter of ballads, such as the Spanish guitar on "Four Seasons of Life," but the songs overall are so melodic that they require little more than Brown's honeyed voice to put them across.

YOU CAN HAVE HER
(William S. Cook)
« © '64 Big Billy Music, BMI / Grove Park Music, BMI »

You can have her I don't want her she didn't loved me anyway
She only wanted someone to play with all I wanted was love to stay

If you get the wrong woman there's only one thing you can do
Just dig a hole jump right in it and pull the ground right over you
You can have her...

The girl I love she upped and left me she ran away with my best friend
Comes home at night just for an hour when daylight comes she's gone again
You can have her...

Life without love it's mighty empty confession is good good for the soul
I'd rather have love that I can cling to than have the world and all of its gold
You can have her...

IF YOU WERE MINE MARY
(Chip Taylor)
« © '65 Ridge Music, BMI »

If you were mine Mary know what I'd do
I'd take the stars Mary and give them to you
If you were mine Mary know what I'd say
I'd say that I love Mary over again all through the day
So if you love me please don't pretend
For there's a lifetime hapiniess waiting round the bend
If you were mine Mary know what I'd do
I'd take my heart Mary and with all my love I'd give it to you
I'd take my heart Mary and with all my love I'd give it to you

HAVE I STAYED AWAY TOO LONG
(Frank Loesser)
« © '43 Frank Music, ASCAP »

Have I stayed away too long have I stayed away too long
If I came home tonight would you still be my darling or have I stayed away too long
The love light that shone so strong pretty love light that shone so strong
If I'd came home tonight would that same light keep burning
Or have I stayed away too long
I'm just outside of town I'll soon be at your door maybe I'd be wrong to hurry there
I'd best keep out of town and worry you no more
For maybe someone else has made you care
Have all of my dreams gone wrong my beautiful dreams gone wrong
If I'd came home tonight would you still be my darling or have I stayed away too long

LAST LAUGH
(Bobby Braddock - Curly Putman - Jim Ed Brown)
« © '67 Tree Publishing, BMI »

He walked in while we sat there talking an old friend she'd known a long time
I asked him to sit down and join us cause any friend of hers is a friend of mine
The drinks were on him his eyes were on her and the last laugh was on me
[ steel ]
After each dance they sat closer and acted as though I wasn't there
And soon she was callin' him baby I've heard him whisper can I meet you somewhere
His hand was on hers her eyes were on his and the last laugh was on me

HAVE I TOLD YOU LATELY THAT I LOVE YOU
(Scott Wiseman)
« © '45 Songs Of Universal, BMI »

Have I told you lately that I love you could I tell you once again somehow
Have I told with all my heart and soul how I adore you well darling I'm telling you now
This heart would break in two if you refuse me I'm no good without you anyhow
Dear have I told you lately that I love you well darling I'm telling you now

Have I told you lately how I miss you every dream I dream is you somehow
Have I told you why the nights are long when you're not with me
Well darling I'm telling you now
This heart would break in two...

HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN
(Jim Throckmorton - David Snyder)
« © '66 Southtown Music, BMI »

Saw you there on the barstool as I walked in
And the look we gave each other said we both need a friend
Is this the first time you've come here in all the nights you've been alone
Searching for something that just isn't at home
How long has it been when's the last time he kissed you
My you sure look lovely in that dress so tight and thin
There's a look in your eye that cries somebody love me
And I wonder how long has it been
I sat down at your table and we shared a drink or two
All the things that first look told me now I find are really true
Someone's neglect has left an emptiness where love used to be
Then you reached out and touched my hand softly whispered to me
How long has it been when's the last time she held you
And made you feel wanted and needed and loved
There's a look in your eye that cries somebody love me
And I wonder how long has it been

WHAT DOES IT TAKE (TO KEEP A WOMAN LIKE YOU SATISFIED)
(Jim Glaser)
« © '67 Ensign Music, BMI »

I guess my loving just ain't good enough for you
Every time I turn my head you look at someone new
Your kind don't like walking babe you want an easy ride
What does it take to keep a woman like you satisfied
You've got a plan in mind to make things come your way
I wonder if it's worth the price you'll have to pay
Life gets cold and empty when your self respect has died
What does it take to keep a woman like you satisfied
[ ac.guitar ]
You need more love than you can get from just one man
Someday you'll taste your cup of life and find it's filled with sand
And then you'll have to turn and face the girl within
For where I stand I don't think you'll be proud of where she's been
And when you're running from yourself there ain't no place to hide
What does it take to keep a woman like you satisfied
What does it take to keep a woman like you satisfied

THERE GOES MY EVERYTHING
(Dallas Frazier)
« © '65 Husky Music, BMI / Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »

There goes my only possession there goes my everything
I hear footsteps slowly walking as they gently walk across a lonely floor
And a voice is softly saying darling this will be goodbye forever more
There goes my reason for living there goes the one of my dreams
There goes my only possession there goes my everything

As my mem'ry turns back the pages I can see the happy years we had before
Now the love that kept this old heart beating
Has been shattered with the closing of a door
There goes my reason for living...

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN LONELY
(George Brown - Peter DeRose - Billy Hill)
« © '33 Shapiro-Bernstein Co, ASCAP »

(Have you ever been lonely)
Have you ever been lonely have you ever been blue
Have you ever loved someone just as I love you
Can't you see I'm sorry for each mistake I've made
Can't you see I've changed dear can't you see I've paid
Be a little forgiving take me back in your heart
How can I go on living now that we're apart
If you knew what I've been through then you'd know why I ask you
Have you ever been lonely have you ever been blue
(Have you ever been lonely have you ever loved someone)
If you knew what I've been through then you'd know why I ask you
Have you ever been lonely have you ever been blue

HOLD ME THRILL ME KISS ME
(Harry Noble)
« © '67 Mills Music, ASCAP »

Hold me hold me never let me go until you told me told me what I want to know
And then just hold me hold me make me tell you I'm in love with you
Thrill me thrill me walk me down the lane
Where shadows will be will be hiding lovers just the same
As will be will be when you make me tell you I love you
They told me be sensible with your new love
Don't be fool thinking this is the last to find
Oh but they never stood in the dark with you love
When you take me in your arms and drive me slowly out of my mind
Kiss me kiss me when you do I know you're gonna miss me miss me if we ever part
So kiss me kiss me make me tell you I'm in love with you
They told me be sensible...

I'D WALK A COUNTRY MILE (FOR A COUNTRY GIRL)
(Billy Ed Wheeler)
« © '67 Bexhill Music, ASCAP »

I've got somebody and she pleases me when I am troubled she eases me
A girl who's beauty goes beneath the skin and the country kind of shows in her grin
I'd walk a country mile for a country girl
A girl who can make a guy like me king of the world
A girl who's kindly turned who's heart is true just a girl oh exactly like you
I've got somebody I don't want to lose so hand me down like pair of the walking shoes
I'm country bound good old open air to see my country girl waitin' for me there
I'd walk a country mile for a country girl a natural open smile a cute little curl
A girl who can keep a heart from being blue just a girl exactly like you
The sunlight's on her hair like growing corn
And in her eyes the dyeing grass of early morn
I see peach blossoms in her cheeks
And music in her walk as sweet as running creeks
I'd walk a country mile for a country girl
A girl who can make a guy like me king of the world
A girl who's kindly turned who's heart is true just a girl sorta exactly like you
Just a girl exactly like you

POP A TOP
(Nat Stuckey)
« © '65 Tree Publishing, BMI »

Pop a top again I've just got time for one more round
Set 'em up my friend then I'll be gone and you can let some other fool sit down
I'd like for you to listen to a joke I heard today
From a woman who said she was through and calmly walked away
I tried to smile and did awhile but it felt so out of place
Did you ever hear of a clown with teardrops streaming down his face
Pop a top again I think I'll have another round
Another one my friend then I'll be gone and you can let some other fool sit down

All to me is misery and here I'm wasting time
Cause a row of fools on a row of stools is not what's on my mind
But then you see her leaving me is not what I prefer
So it's either here a drinking beer or home remembering her
Pop a top again...
