Following the success of Jim Ed Brown's biggest solo hit, "Morning," in 1970, he entered the Top 15 again a few months later with "Angel's Sunday," which brandishes a surprising vocal rhythm as a hook. Brown's albums are usually good, but Angel's Sunday is a little better than average thanks to the strong material and predominantly female background vocals, which re-create in spots the sound of his former trio, the Browns. Production touches add variety to what is mostly a platter of ballads, such as the Spanish guitar on "Four Seasons of Life," but the songs overall are so melodic that they require little more than Brown's honeyed voice to put them across.

SING ME A NURSERY RHYME
(Billy Ed Wheeler - Alex Harvey)
« © '71 U Catalog, ASCAP »

(Twinkle twinkle little star) how I wonder where you are
It seems like only yesterday our little girl was playing
With windup toys and little boys dolls and color crayons
Then at night she'd come to me all sleepy eyed and saying
Daddy will you sing to me when I get through praying
Sing me a nursery rhyme while I count the little sheep
Sing me a nursery rhyme so I can go to sleep

She was our pride and joy a rainbow just beginning
We loved her so we couldn't see our love was nearly ending
Day by day we tried to say the love we knew she needed
I can't forget the night I left she came to me and pleaded
Sing me a nursery rhyme...
(Twinkle twinkle little star) how I wonder where you are

SHE'LL REMEMBER
(Marvis Harris)
« © '71 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »

She may try to tell you that she's never ever felt a fiery kiss
She may look into your eyes and say I've never known the love like this
She may say her body's never felt the heat from love's burnin' flame
Ah but she'll remember when she hears my name
She may look at you and say no one else has occupied her mind
She may say it's virgin ground and then you'll think it's called the waitin' time
Then you'll whisper words to her she'll tell you that you're the first to say
Ah but she'll remember when she thinks of yesterday
Now I don't wanna be the one to mess upon the things you've done
Cause I know you think you wanna cry
But if you ever doubt she's true there's one thing you shouldn't do
Don't ever look into her eyes
She may say she's never said I love you to another man before
She might forget the times we bluffed and all the times I heard her beg for more
She may try to face it out and yet behind her eyes it's still the same
Yes but she'll remember when she hears my name
Yes but she'll remember when she hears my name

ARMS OF AUGUST
(Chuck Rogers)

When July and then August came a quiet girl and strain
She drifted in on the midnight wind and never told her name
But I had no need for questions when she gave her love to me
I knew that I would always wanna be
In the arms of August waiting for the dawn
Lying there beside her wrapped in August warm
She was autumn golden like the falling leaves
And it was heaven holding August close to me
[ strings + guitar ]
Now the sun won't warm the frozen sky and I feel like crying
A love that runs from winter winds can leave a body dying
If I could just call August band and listen to her sing
Winter then would seem like early spring
In the arms of August...

GENTLE WOMAN MINE
(Billy Graham)
« © '71 Sublime Music, BMI »

Gentle woman mine gentle woman mine your love's the lasting kind
Gentle woman mine gentle woman mine you belong to me you're mine

You lay your head beside me and you gently take my hand
I feel your body close to mine you understand your man
Gentle woman mine...

We pull the night around us like a blanket warm and black
The problems of the world are gone and we don't want 'em back
You breathe soft on my shoulder and I hold you close so tight
I wouldn't give the whole wide world for what we have tonight
Gentle woman mine...
Gentle woman mine...

FOUR SEASONS OF LIFE
(Narvel Felts)
« © '71 Songs Of PolyGram, BMI »

Deep in the night a baby cries
Little does he understand that before he knows it he'll be a man
In the spring a young man's fancy turns to love
In treetops high he sees the mating of the dove
The he finds her somehow somewhere and with one kiss a love they share
This is the first season of life
In the summer he gives her a wedding band
As hot wind blows they walk together hand in hand
And then they have a family first comes one then two then three
This is the second season of life
Then comes autumn the green leaves turn to gold
Their two daughters have children their son takes a wife
Their grandchildren now number one and three
This is the third season of life
In the winter an old man's hair has turned to snow
His love is gone with the cold north wind that blows
For she is gone and he's alone soon he must go where she has gone
This is the last season of life

ONLY A WOMAN LIKE YOU
(Bill Eldridge - Gary Stewart)
« © '70 Forrest Hills Music, BMI / Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »

Only a woman like you can make a man of me
For a man like me can't go through life alone
Only a woman like you can make a man of me
Without your love I'm weak but with your love I'm strong

Down every road I'll have to walk and every path I'll have to cross
I'll need someone who'll be standing there with me
Someone who can take my smallest dream and turn it into the greatest thing
Darling only you can make a man of me
Only a woman like you...
Without your love I'm weak but with your love I'm strong

YOU'LL NEVER KNOW
(Jim Ed Brown)
« © '71 Jamie Music, BMI »

You'll never know the thrill of loving you never know what loving you can do
If for once you could be me then darling you would know
What I'm thinking when we're dancing know the meaning of my glances
You'll never know the thrill of loving you never know what loving you can do
Or feel your heatbeat when you look at you
Yes darling you may life your whole life through and never know the thrill of loving you
[ whistle ]
You'll never know the thrill of kissing you or have the blues whenever you miss you
You've never held you in your arms so darling you don't know
A heart that's restless a sigh so breathless felt the warmth of your caress
You'll never know the thrill of loving you or feel your heatbeat when you look at you
My darling you may life your whole life through and never know the thrill of loving you

HEAVEN SAYS HELLO
(Cindy Walker)
« © '68 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »

Heaven says hello every morning when the sun says hi I've come to spend the day
Heaven says hello with the songbirds and the little flowers that nod along my way
And when the day is through and I hurry home to you
As the twilight steals across the golden skies
Heaven says hello when you kiss me and I look into the blue of your eyes

(Heaven says hello every morning) when the sun says hi I've come to spend the day
(Heaven says hello with the songbirds) and the little flowers that nod along my way
And when the day is through...
And I look into the blue of your eyes
