As with most second albums, the successful traits started to isolate themselves on Hard Workin' Man: Macho stuff like "Hard Workin' Man" and "Rock My World (Little Country Girl)" rocked harder than anything on Brand New Man, though B&D made sure their women came off as good as they did (catch the "and women too" tag on "Hard Workin' Man"). The slower songs ("That Ain't No Way to Go," "She Used to Be Mine") tended toward the sort of evocative images that ran all through the debut. The pair never put all the elements together they way they did the first time, but they came close enough that few people noticed.

HARD WORKIN' MAN
(Ronnie Dunn)
« © '93 Showbilly Music, BMI »
I'm hard workin' man I wear a steel hard hat
I can ride rope hammer and paint do things with my hands that most men can't
I can't get ahead no matter how hard I try so I'm gettin' good at barely gettin' by
Got everything I own by the sweat of my brow
From my four wheel drive to my cowboy boots I owe it all to my blue collar roots
I feel like I'm workin' overtime on a runaway train
I've got to bust loose from this ball and chain
I'm a hard hard workin' man
I got it all on the line for a piece of a promise land
And I'm burnin' my candle at both ends
Bout the only way to keep the fire goin' is to outrun the wind
[ piano - fiddle ]
Come Friday night I like to party hard
I carry on with the Cadillac cuties
I've spend a whole week's pay on some weekend beauty
Come Monday mornin' I'm the first to arrive
I ain't nothin' but business from nine till five
I'm a hard hard workin' man...
I can't wait to get up in the morning and do it all over again
Well I'm hard livin' hard workin' man

WE'LL BURN THAT BRIDGE
(Don Cook - Ronnie Dunn)
« © '93 Showbilly Music, BMI »
Hello Miss Heartbroke sit your sweet self down
It's good to see your dancin' feet back out on the town
Rumor has it you've had trouble with your man
I've had trouble of my own I think I understand
We'll put out your old flame we'll build a bigger fire
I'll pick up where he let you down and take you so much higher
And if his mem'ry comes around and you think you still care
We'll burn that bridge when we get there
[ fiddle ]
Come on let your hair down we'll have us a time
He had his chance with you now all I want is mine
Give me half an hour or just a dance or two
And you'll forget old what's his name and how he walked out on you
We'll put out your old flame...
[ guitar ]
We'll put out your old flame...
Yeah we'll burn that bridge when we get there

MEXICAN MINUTES
(Kent M. Robbins - Jim Messina)
« © '93 Irving Music, BMI »
Up in the city it's crazy and concrete cold
Living life at the speed of light leaves dark in your soul
When every minute's got a heart attack in it it's time to leave it alone
So I don't think we're gonna beat this postcard home
We're down to the worm in the bottle the chips and the salsa are gone
Now we know why JT sang Oh Mexico
Two days south of the border feeling too good to care why
These Mexican minutes get longer and longer as the days go by
[ guitar ]
We're dropping our worries and picking up Espanol
Down here the sunsets are red the tequila is gold
Life is sublime here on Mexican time they've got something we need to learn
If we don't show for a while don't be concerned
We're down to the worm in the bottle...
We're down to the worm in the bottle...
These Mexican minutes get longer and longer as the days go by

HEARTACHE OUT OF MY MIND
(Ronnie Dunn)
« © '93 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Well I'm flying high and feeling low drinking hard and dancing slow
I'm gonna shine my buckle to George Jones
Heartaches are hot on my heels bartender the race is on
She's gone for good and I'm going to town I'm gonna live it up yeah livin' her down
Jose pick me up and get me on my feet
So I can scoot a boot to that two-four jukebox beat
Yeah I'm heartbroke out of my mind pardon me boys if I get a little out of line
It's just temporary insanity till I get over what she did to me
I'll be heartbroke out of my mind
[ guitar ]
BYOT I brought my own trouble tonight
I'm gonna get this being done wrong down right
Yaah saddle me up boys I'm goin' in
They say when you fall off well climb right back up again
Yeah I'm heartbroke out of my mind...
It's just temporary insanity till I get over what she did to me
I'll be heartbroke out of my mind oh I'm just heartbroke out of my mind

SHE USED TO BE MINE
(Ronnie Dunn)
« © '93 Tree Publishing, BMI »
She looks so good movin' cross the dance floor better than the day she left me
Arm in arm with somebody new holding hands and laughing like we used to
I got my best smile on but it's no disguise it don't hide the pain in these eyes
I did her so wrong for so long turned my back on her love now she's long gone
I did my part to break her heart she walked out on me and tore my world apart
She used to be mine oh she used to be mine
[ fiddle ]
It's taking every bit of strength that I have to keep a hurt look off my face
I can't keep from looking back over my shoulder at the lucky man taking my place
Oh if it weren't for my pride I'd probably take off runnin'
I guess what I'm feeling is what I got comin'
I did her so wrong for so long...
[ guitar ]
Oh I did her so wrong for so long...
She used to be mine oh she used to be mine

ROCK MY WORLD (LITTLE COUNTRY GIRL)
(Bill LaBounty - Steve O'Brien)
« © '93 Careers Music, BMI »
She's got a T-Top Camaro with a scoop on the hood
And two big speakers blastin' Johnny B Goode
Lookin' so sweet it oughta be a crime
She plays with my heart and messes with my mind
Acts like Madonna but she listens to Merle rock my world little country girl
She wears snakeskin boots made by Calvin Klein
And cheap sunglasses from the five and dime
All the other girls in school they give her dirty looks
She got an A in math and never cracked a book
Sure looks good in her denim and pearls rock my world little country girl
Rock my world drag me out on the floor dance with me till I can't dance anymore
One-step two-step get in a line I gotta find a way to make you mine
[ fiddle ]
I tell her that I love her but it ain't enough she says I got to learn to loosen up
Get a little wild on Saturday night make sure she's home before the mornin' light
Sunday she's all ribbons and curls rock my world little country girl
Rock my world drag me out on the floor...
Rock my world little country girl rock my world little country girl
Rock my world little country girl rock my world little country girl

THAT AIN'T NO WAY TO GO
(Don Cook - Ronnie Dunn - Kix Brooks)
« © '93 Buffalo Prairie Songs, BMI »
Lipstick letter cross the mirror this morning
Said goodbye baby you left without warning
Like a thief in the night you ran away with my heart
I can't believe my eyes must be a bad dream you always said we had a good thing
You never once let on we were falling apart
That ain't no way to go girl it just ain't right
Don't you think that I deserve to hear you say goodbye
That ain't no way to go was it all a lie after all this time that ain't no way to go
[ guitar ]
Gettin' nowhere I'm tired of thinkin' guess I'll do a little wishful drinkin'
Make a whiskey wish upon a star
Train whistle blowing down the track lonesome sound says she ain't coming back
It's such a cold blow from out of the dark
That ain't no way to go...
That ain't no way to go...

TEXAS WOMEN (DON'T STAY LONELY LONG)
(Kix Brooks - Ed Hunnicut)
« © '93 Careers Music, BMI »
Well I'll bet by the time I get to Tulsa she'll be pullin' on them tight blue jeans
She'll go down to cowboys buy herself a cold one
And on a Friday night in Dallas she's a cowboy's dream
Something tells me she'll sit out the first one
Then they'll play George Strait and she'll be gone
Cause heaven knows that girl was born to two-step
And Texas women don't stay lonely long
It's a fact that women like the one I left
Can find somebody else any time they want want
It's a shame but I'm afraid the one I love
She don't like waitin' much no Texas women don't stay lonely long
[ fiddle - guitar ]
I'd sure like to think she'd wait forever welcome me back in with open arms
But she don't walk the floor she don't count the teardrops
And she don't pick up pieces from no broken heart
Oh I wish I could call and say I'm sorry but there's nobody sittin' by the phone
You know she meant it when she told me that she loved me
But Texas women don't stay lonely long
It's a fact that women like...
It's a fact that women like...
[ steel ]

OUR TIME IS COMING
(Ronnie Dunn - Kix Brooks)
« © '93 Buffalo Prairie Songs, BMI »
Times are hard and the money's tight day to day we fight that fight
Nothing new it's the same old grind uphill all the way
Bossman says forget the raise preacher says to keep the faith
Good things come to those who wait tomorrow's another day
Our time is coming when or where the good Lord only knows
Our time is coming when this road we're on will turn to a street of gold
Long as we keep love alive something tells me we'll survive
It's the little things that'll get us by and hold us together
I feel it when you hold me close baby we got more than most
Steady through the highs and lows we'll go on forever
Our time is coming...
[ guitar ]
Oh our time is coming...
When this road we're on will turn to a street of gold
[ guitar ]

I CAN'T PUT OUT THIS FIRE
(Don Cook - Kix Brooks)
« © '93 Buffalo Prairie Songs, BMI »
Seems like every time I call you I'm standing in the pouring rain
I had another falling out with love I'm back out on the streets again
I could use a cup of coffee but I guess I better pass this time
But you could do an old friend a favor while I'm still on the line
I know you said it's over but this old heart's still burning with desire
So tell me one more time you don't love me anymore
You gotta help me girl I can't put out this fire
[ fiddle ]
It's good to hear your voice again I can almost see your smile
It's good to talk about old times if only for a little while
Guess I'll go on back to my place there's not much else for me to do
I wish that I could close my eyes without dreaming of you
I know you said it's over...
Oh you gotta help me girl I can't put out this fire
No no you gotta help me girl I can't put out this fire

BOOT SCOOTIN' BOOGIE (Dance Mix)
(Ronnie Dunn)
« © '91 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Oh Cadillac blackjack get down Boot Scootin' Boogie
Out in the country past the city limit sign
Well there's honky tonk near the county line
The joint starts jumpin' every night when the sun goes down
They got whiskey women music and smoke
It's where all the cowboy folk go to Boot Scootin' Boogie
I've got a good job I work hard for my money
When it's quittin' time I hit the door runnin'
I fire up my pickup truck and let the horses run
I go flyin' down that highway to that hideaway stuck
Out in the woods to do the Boot Scootin' Boogie
Yeah heel to toe docie doe come on baby let's boot scootin'
Oh Cadillac blackjack baby meet me out back we're gonna boogie
Oh get down turn around go to town Boot Scootin' Boogie
[ harmonica ]
The bartender asks me says son what will it be
I want a shot at that redhead yonder looking at me
The dance floor's hoppin' and it's hotter than the 4th of July
I see outlaws inlaws crooks and straights
All out making it shake doin' the Boot Scootin' Boogie
Yeah heel to toe docie doe...
Oh heel to toe docie doe...
[ harmonica ]
Yeah heel to toe docie doe...
[ piano - fiddle ]
Heel to toe docie doe...
Oh heel to toe docie doe...
I said get down turn around go to town Boot Scootin' Boogie
Oh get down turn around go to town Boot Scootin' Boogie
