Eddy Arnold's evolution from a hillbilly singer to a middle-of-the-road pop balladeer was gradual enough that he continued to be identified with country music even when his albums contained not a whit of country. His late-'60s singles often appeared simultaneously on the pop, country, and adult contemporary charts, and his repertoire came to include some surprisingly modern pop songs. His 1969 album Songs of the Young World contains his Top Ten hit "They Don't Make Love Like They Used To" and inevitable versions of the country-pop hits "Witchita Lineman" and "Little Green Apples." "Tender Is Her Name," with its flutes and lazy soul vibe, shows what a short distance Arnold would have had to travel at this stage to turn into a deep-voiced Bobby Goldsboro. In 1973 RCA's Camden imprint reissued Songs of the Young World under the title I Love How You Love Me.

SINCE YOU'VE BEEN LOVING ME
(Dallas Frazier)
« © '68 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
I see a beautiful rainbow even on the days it doesn't rain
And for me December will be thirty one days of spring
Loneliness has moved away and happiness moved in to stay
And life has been extasy since you've been loving me

You turned the skies into a bluer blue
The trees are all a greener green
You've changed everything
With you in my arms any longer have to dream
If I could be a symphony then you would be my melody
And everything I hear and see since you've been loving me
Since you've been loving me

LITTLE GREEN APPLES
(Bobby Russell)
« © '68 PolyGram Int, ASCAP »
And I wake up in the mornin' with my hair down in my eyes and she says hi
And I stumble to the breakfast table while the kids are goin' off to school goodbye
And she reaches out and takes my hand and squeezes it says how you feelin' hon
And I look across at smilin' lips that warm my heart and see my morning sun

And if that's not lovin' me then all I've got to say
God didn't make little green apples
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And there's no such thing as Doctor Suess
And Disneyland and Mother Goose is no nursery rhyme
God didn't make little green apples
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And when myself is feeling low I think about her face aglow to ease my mind

Sometimes I call her up at home knowin' she's busy
And ask her if she could get away and meet me and grab a bite to eat
And she drops what she's doing and hurries down to meet me and I'm always late
But she sits waitin' patiently
And smiles when she first sees me cause she's made that way

And if that's not lovin' me then all I've got to say
God didn't make little green apples
And it don't snow in Minneapolis when the winter comes
There's no such thing as make believe
The puppy dogs and autumn leaves and the BB guns
God didn't make little green apples
And it don't rain in Indianapolis in the summertime
And when myself is feeling low I think about her face aglow to ease my mind
(And if that's not loving me)

WICHITA LINEMAN
(Jim Webb)
« © '68 PolyGram Int, ASCAP »
I am a lineman for the county and I drive the main road
Searching in the sun for another overload
I hear you singing in the wires I can hear you through the whine
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

I know I need a small vacation but it don't look like rain
And if it snows that stretch down south won't ever stand the strain
And I need you more than want you and I'll want you for all time
And the Wichita lineman is still on the line

(I know I need a small vacation but it don't look like rain)

And I need you more than want you...
Is still on the line

SUNSHINE BELONGS TO ME
(Wayne Carson Thompson)
« © '68 Budde Songs, BMI »
Don't sing those old sad songs of the love gone wrong no tears and misery
You can have the rain Mister the sunshine belongs to me

Don't tell me that old tales of the fool who sails upon a lonely sea
You can have the rain Mister the sunshine belongs to me

You can have the clouds of gray you can have the rain
I've found my true love today a love that will remain

So now I've got no use for the lonesome blues our love has set me free
You can have the rain Mister the sunshine belongs to me

You can have the clouds of gray...

So let the sun shine down let the world go round blue sky is all I see
You can have the rain Mister the sunshine belongs to me
You can have the rain Mister the sunshine belongs to me

THEY DON'T MAKE LOVE LIKE THEY USED TO
(Red Lane)
« © '68 Tree Publishing, BMI »
They just don't make love like they used to
They stone a heart so warm and true
It seems to fall apart no matter what we do
They just don't make love like they used to

Love just don't hold on like it used to
It dies before it's halfway through
It seems to fall apart no matter what we do
They just don't make love like they used to
I remember when I loved you meant all the world
[ horns ] It seems to fall apart...
I remember when I loved you meant all the world
They just don't make love like they used to

I GET BABY ON MY MIND
(Ben Peters)
« © '68 Shelby Singleton Music, BMI »
There in the glow of early dawn
I wake to find that I'm alone
And turn off the alarm clock she always used to wind
And that's when I get baby on my mind

I make instant coffee just for one
I scrape off the toast that's over done
Then I sit there pretending I'll get along just fine
And that's when I get baby on my mind

And all through the day each hour I'm away
No matter what I do I always find

Although we may be far apart
I still got baby in my heart
There's too many mem'ries she left behind
And that's when I get baby on my mind

TENDER IS HER NAME
(George Tidwell)
« © '68 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Oh she brings the April breezes and the orchids of my life
Mhm she fills the quiet hours with the glow
And the dreams unrealized on tickle smile from her lips
And everytime I look at her I know that tender is her name
Tender is her name

She takes the time to touch my shoulder what I needed most
And she senses when I need to be alone
I know somehow she'll be here when the rest of it is gone
And when she comes to me at night I know that tender is her name
Tender is her name

No words so soft no needs fulfill the way she looks at me
I can't belive this life of ours will always always be
And Tender is her name Tender is her name
Tender is her name Tender is her name

TAKE A LITTLE TIME
(John D. Loudermilk)
« © '68 Acuff-Rose Music, BMI »
Take a little time to hold and kiss her
Or you're gonna find someday you're gonna miss her
Just a little time is all that love demands and understands
So take a little time to take her dancing
Take a little time that's all that she is asking
Just a little time is all that love demands and understands

You'll find all that overtime at the office
And all of those gifts and presents that it buys
Just cannot beat a couple of the morning coffees
And a kiss before you're kissed goodbye

So take a little time and take her dinning
Or you're gonna wind up boy by finding
Just a little time is all that love demands and understands
So take a little time to take her walking
Just a little kiss and a little bit talking
Just a little time is all that love demands and understands

Don't break your back make you a stack of money
They say the better things in life are free
So settle down and start hanging round your honey
Before your honey starts making eyes at me

Take a little time to say you love her
Take a little time and you'll discover
Just a little time is all that love demands and understands
(And understands)

SWEET MARILYN
(Lana Chapel)
« © '68 Vintage Music, BMI »
The sun was her hair the sea was her eyes
Her voice was the warm summer wind
Possessing the beauty of a golden sunrise
I'll love her forever sweet Marilyn

The love in her smile is still warm in my heart
The sound of her laughter still echoes
Remembering her whisper I turn with a start
But it's just the strange way the wind blows

The sun was her hair...

As a beautiful flower that withers and dies
Leaves a fragrance still lingering
I only close my tear filled eyes
And it seems she's still here with me

The sun was her hair...

I'M IN LOVE WITH YOU
(Bob Tubert - Sonny James)
« © '68 Vintage Music, BMI »
I'm in love with you in love with all my heart
And I'll always be if you'll come with me I'm in love with you

I'm in love with you you make the music start
You're the song I hear and I need you near I'm in love with you

It's such a simple thing that's so sweet and true
I know through all my days I'll always say I love you

I'm in love with you in love with all my heart
If you'll take my hand then you'll understand I'm in love with you
If you'll take my hand then you'll understand I'm in love with you

SUDDENLY MY THOUGHTS ARE ALL OF YOU
(Clint Ballard)
« © '68 Edwin H. Morris Co, ASCAP »
All afternoon I sit alone and contemplate the joy I've known
And suddenly my thoughts are all of you
I feel the sun I see the trees that gentle and the summer breeze
And suddenly my thoughts are all of you

It may be wrong to be this way just clinging on to yesterday
I know you're the one but what am I to do
Well everything I do or see reminds me of what used to be
And suddenly my thoughts are all of you
