Eddy Arnold was a few years past his last major country hit when he made Loving Her Was Easier. The light country-folk sound was probably influenced by the contemporaneous success of artists like John Denver and James Taylor. In fact, Denver's "Take Me Home, Country Roads" is covered, as are big hits such as "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" and Freddie Hart's "Easy Loving," both of which fit well with the tone of the album, even if the performances are lackluster. A tepid run-through of Jackie DeShannon's "Put a Little Love in Your Heart" is included for Arnold's least-discerning pop fans. "I Love You Dear" was a minor hit and the only charting single from the album. A year or so after Loving Her Was Easier, Arnold's sagging sales resulted in his parting ways with RCA after nearly 30 years with the company.

TAKE MY HAND FOR AWHILE
(Buffy Sainte Marie)
« © '68 Gypsy Boy Music, ASCAP »
Take my hand for awhile explain it to be once again
Just for the sake of my broken heart
Look into my eyes and maybe I will understand
How love I counted on was never there
You see I've thought that you might love me
So you caught me it seems off valums with the heart that's full
Of love and pretty dreams that two should share
Look into my eyes and maybe I will understand
How love I counted on was never there
And so I know but please before you go
Take my hand for awhile explain it to be once again
Just for the sake of my broken heart
So take my hand for just awhile

TAKE ME HOME COUNTRY ROADS
(John Denver - Bill Danoff - Taffy Nivert)

Almost heaven West Virginia
Blue Ridge Mountains Shenandoah River
Life is old there older than the trees
Younger than the mountains blowin' like a breeze
Country roads take me home to the place I belong
West Virginia mountain mama take me home country roads
All my mem'ries gather round her
Miner's lady stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine teardrop in my eye
Country roads take me home...
I hear her voice in the morning as she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin' down the road I get a feeling that I should have been
Home yesterday yesterday
Country roads take me home...
Country roads take me home...
Take me home country roads

Easy lovin' everyday's things givin'
To count all my blessin's I wouldn't know where to start
Everytime I look you over so real to life it seems
Upon your pretty shoulders there's a pair of angel wings
Easy lovin' seein's believin'
Life with you's like livin' in a beautiful dream
Everytime I look you over...
In a beautiful dream

PUT A LITTLE LOVE IN YOUR HEART
(Randy Myers - Jackie DeShannon - Jimmy Holiday)
« © '69 Unart Catalog, BMI »
Think of your fellow man lend him a helping hand put a little love in your heart
You see it's gettin' late oh please don't hesitate put a little love in your heart
And the world will be a better place and the world will be a better place
For you and me you just wait and see
Another day goes by and still the children cry put a little love in your heart
If you want the world to know we don't let hatred grow put a little love in your heart
And the world will be a better place...
Take a good look around and if you're looking down put a little love in your heart
I hope when you decide on just who'll be your guide put a little love in your heart
And the world will be a better place...
Put a little love in your heart

LOVING HER WAS EASIER
(THAN ANYTHING I'LL EVER DO AGAIN)
(Kris Kristofferson)
« © '70 Combine Music, BMI »
(Loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again)
Oh I have seen the morning burning golden on the mountains in the skies
Aching with the feeling of the freedom of an eagle when she flies
Turning on the world the way she smiled upon my soul as I lay dying
Healing as the colors in the sunshine and the shadows of her eyes
Waking in the morning to the feeling of her fingers on my skin
Wiping out the traces of the people and the places that I've been
Teaching me that yesterday was something that I never thought of trying
Talking of tomorrow and the money love and time we had to spend
Loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again
Coming close together with a feeling that I'd never known before in my time
She ain't ashamed to be a woman or afraid to be a friend
I don't know the answers to the easy way she opened every door in my mind
But dreamin' was as easy as believin' it was never gonna end
And loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again

RUBY DON'T TAKE YOUR LOVE TO TOWN
(Mel Tillis)
« © '66 Cedarwood Publishing, BMI »
You've painted up your lips and rolled and curled your tinted hair
Ruby are you contemplating goin' out somewhere
The shadow on the wall tellsd me the sun is going down
Oh Ruby don't take your love to town
It wasn't me that started that old crazy Asian war
But I was proud to go and do my patriotic chores
Yes it's true that I'm not the man I used to be
But Ruby I still need some company
It's hard to love a man whose legs are bent and paralized
And the wants and the needs of a woman your age Ruby I realize
But it won't be long I've heard them say until I'm not around
Oh Ruby don't take your love to town
She's leavin' now cause I just heard the slamming of the door
The way I know I've heard it slam one hundred times before
If I could move I get my gun and put her in the ground
Oh Ruby don't take your love to town
Oh Ruby don't take your love to town

ROSES TO RENO
(Wayne P.Walker - Bobby Sykes)
« © '71 Cedarwood Publishing, BMI »
Send some roses to Reno maybe it's not too late
If the roses reach Reno maybe baby will wait
Baby's gone she's out of sight it all happened over night
But how long I should have stayed and that was yesterday before I'd found
Baby's Reno bound
Send some roses to Reno...
Never thought she'd say goodbye guess my thoughts were all a lie
Baby smiled on me for just a little while and baby let me down
Baby's Reno bound
Send some roses to Reno...

LONG LIFE LOTS OF HAPPINESS
(Owen McGovern)
« © '71 Golden Egg Music, BMI »
Drive-in shows covered with snow but we never felt the cold
We bought us a blanket we always meant to thank it for hugging us so close
In kickle round clothes at downtown in windows we posed
I cling to your warmth while you're tugged on my arm
Our eyes passing funny little notes
Long life lots of happiness good wife lots of pretty kids
We gotta be one one happy time
It was a bitter wine our first sip of time then we drank till the sweet stuff ran dry
Through sunshine and roses the winter's red noses the days softly tiptoeing by
Now they're the good ol' days as they come back to play on my mind
The laughter the pain how we fought off the rain
We lived by those silly old lines
Long life lot's of happiness...
Long life lot's of happiness...

I LOVE YOU DEAR
(Jack Moran)
« © '71 Tree Publishing, BMI »
Please put down the paper turn off the TV
And darling look over my way
And I know that lately we ain't done much talking
But there's something I just have to say
I love you dear I love you dear
I haven't said that is such a long long time
Come sit close beside me and give me a chance
To prove I'm so glad you're still mine
My golf clubs your bridge clubs have kept us both busy
And Johnny and Jean are half grown
Time makes it easy to take things for granted
Like knowing that you are my own
But I love you dear...

CAUSE I GOT YOU
(John Scoggins - Gary Prahl)
« © '71 Terri Music, ASCAP »
If a girl could be made of clay then I could mould that girl my way
I got her picture in my mind but there's no need to waste my time
Cause I got you and God knew what to do when he made you
Come the day that you were born an angel took an earthly form
Cause if you take one little girl add all the wonders of the world
Then I'd have you and God knew what to do when he made you
God created the seven wonders in his usual style
Wrapped them up in the piece of sunshine put them in your smile
So if the sun don't ever shine I don't worry cause I got mine
When I got you and God knew what to do when he made you
God created the seven wonders...
