This is a story about Oklahoma's three Deputy US Marshals called the Three Guardsmen

Chris Madsen Heck Thomas and Bill Tilghman
This trio was known as the Three Guardsmen
They were protectors of the law these honorable men
Madsen Thomas and Tilghman were the Three Guardsmen

He was born in Denmark then to America he came
He fought in wars was an Indian scout Chris Madsen was his name
He was a US Marshal in the town of Guthrie
And he pursued the men who broke the law in the territory

Chris Madsen Heck Thomas and Bill Tilghman...

Heck Thomas came from Georgia where the south had fell
He was a courier boy in the Civil War at the age of twelve
He came west to be a lawman was Judge Parker's right hand man
And he respected Bill Doolin but he was forced to kill him

Bill Tilghman came from Iowa as a marksman with a gun
For thirty-five years he wore a badge catchin' outlaws on the run
He gave his life for the law and the cause of decency
He was a gentleman a politician and a personality
