Hopped a freight train outta Nashville rode it up to Ohio
Thumbed my way on to Detroit stayed there for a month or so
Caught a ride into Chicago with a truck drivin' man
Stayed there for the summer singin' with a country band
And ev'ry time I hear a freight train's lonesome whistle blow
I think about the good girl I got a waitin' for me at home

I'm a gittin' on that ol' train and a goin' back to that good good girl of mine

Hopped a freight out of Chicago thought that it was southern bound

Stole a ride on a fruit truck went through Charlotte to LA
I got a ride back to Atlanta liked those towns but couldn't stay

Hundred and thirty eight miles from Nashville I'll get home if I have to crawl
